Summary: This superb richly sherried single malt is matured for at least 12 years in a combination of the finest Spanish Pedro Ximinez and Oloroso sherry casks.   Glendronach Glendronach malt whisky distillery was established north east of Huntley in Scotland’s Highland whisky region by James Allardice in 1826. The malting floors at Glendronach Distillery closed in 1996 and it was the last distillery in Scotland to heat its stills directly with flames from a coal-fired furnace, until it had to comply with new regulations in 2005. Resplendent with a traditional cask iron mash tun, wooden washbacks, four stills and maturation in top quality sherry casks. Glendronach’s earlier sherry matured vintages produce special Scottish single malt whiskies. Glendronach has a distillery visitor centre offering a range of distillery tours. Sweet, creamy vanilla, with hints of ginger. Spiced mulled wine and pear. Rich, creamy, silky-smooth. Warm, rich oak and sherry sweetness, full mouth feel, raisins and soft fruits. Spicy with medium length and a dry finish.

Creamed soda and wild strawberries back up lush late harvest desert wine. Hints of sherbet and ripe cherries. Very fruity. Palate: Apples and rhubarb drenched in custard. Sweet dessert wine influences emerge with ripe sultanas and a lovely creamy heart. Finish: Sweet, fresh and fragrant, with balanced acidity. Lots of finesse and elegance, whilst still maintaining the lively youthful elements.

Summary: New 2011 wood finish which replaces the now discontinued 20 year old. The tasting notes suggest this is a terrific 'dronach. Nose: Stewed damsons and plum conserve. Raisins, sultanas and fine grand cru chocolate provide lovely depth and structure. Palate: Fruit shortcake drenched in vanilla custard, with a scattering of dried figs, dates and wild strawberries. Smooth tannins and light acidity highlight a wonderfully long finish. Finish: A fruit laden whisky to enliven the taste buds.

Summary: Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky For a whisky coming from an Oloroso Puncheon this is surprisingly light which usually means more distillery character and less influence but who knows with Glendronach. Whats for sure is that this is from a world class distillery in a range that has so far yielded nothing but utter gems. I really want to try this one.
