Summary: Single sherry butt #4234. Distilled 1991. A special, limited edition Mortlach bottled for Boisdale; a charming historic Scottish restaurant, bar and members club popular with Scots ex-pats in London. Mortlach Established way back in 1823 on a site long frequented by illicit distillers. Down by the shaded banks of the River Dullan with wooden worm tubs, six stills of assorted shapes and sizes, and three spirit safes in order to run a unique two and a half times, or partial triple, distillation process which was probably developed back in the late 1890s when the number of stills was increased from three to six. Official bottling are few, however, independent bottlers recognise the great  quality of this whisky particularly following long maturation in sherry casks. Gordon and MacPhail released a 70 year old distilled in 1938 and  matured in a single sherry hogshead until bottling in 2009. And maturity is intrinsic for nearby parish church can trace its existence back through decades, centuries and even a millennium. Clean with fruit notes – pear drops and caramel aromas. Rich flavours, smoky with sherry wood elements. Drying with fruit and oak flavours. Sherry wood with a delicate floral edge finish.
