Summary: Matured in refill sherry hogsheads this 1997 vintage bottled by Gordon & MacPhail featuring the original distillery label. Strathisla Founded in 1786 long before the railway appeared on the drawing board. One of the oldest working distilleries in Scotland. Built on the site of a brewery which dated back to the 1300s and which drew its water from the in-bye Fons Bulliens well. By the banks of the River Isla in the centre of a whisky town, water from the well and cooling water from the Isla. With two pagoda roofs over the old kilns, classical stone walls and slate roofs, redundant mill wheel now catching your gaze from the front wall and pulling you into its splendid heathery garden, into iconic Scotch. A very old and very charming distillery renowned for its stock of old whiskies. Nose: Initially cooking apples. Fresh with hints of toasted malt. Some grass notes develop also. Palate: An initial burst of black pepper, becomes creamy with some dried fruit influences.
