Nose: not a distillery to great age this is very comfortable in its fruity clothes, loose fitting and, despite the odd patch here and there, mildly exotic;
Taste: quite literally faultless: perhaps the softest delivery of the year with lush, understated exotic fruit and molasses and maple syrup. The oak is pretty ingrained but only the spices make a stand out contribution: you cannot find anything more completely balanced than this;
Finish: naturally falls away little but only as the oak takes the upper hand from the spent sugars;
Balance: for my 900th new whisky for the 2016 bible, a malt from a distillery I stayed at in the year this was distilled. It appears to fared infinitely better over the years then me.
Ratings: 96.5 points / Jim Murray's 2016 Whisky Bible.

Bunnahabhain Dràm An Stiùreadair, a 10-year-old single malt which was first matured in ex-American Bourbon casks for nine years before being finished for one year in a Marsala cask.
Just 632 bottles of the edition, whose name translates as “The Helmsman’s Dram”, will be available.
Bunnahabhain Dràm an Stiùreadair is said to have smoky and rich oaky and vanilla flavours as a result of the combined cask aging.Bunnahabhain-Dràm-an-Stiùreadair
Michelle Lansdowne, senior brand manager at Burn Stewart Distillers, parent company of Bunnahabhain, said: “We wanted to create something special for this year’s whisky festival and with such limited availability of these exclusive single malts, they will definitely appeal to anyone attending the festival, as well as international collectors of rare malts.
“The flavours, aromas and finish of both these expressions add a further layer of complexity to the wonderful signature taste profile of Bunnahabhain.”

Bunnahabhain / Feis Ile 2015 - Rubha A' Mhail
Bunnahabhain / Feis Ile 2015 – Rubha A' Mhail

£ 120.00
Country: Scotland
Region: Islay
Age:
Strength:

Summary: Country/ Region: Scotland/Islay.
Alcohol by volume: 57.4%
Date Distilled: .
Age: 11 Year Old.
Cask Type: Manzanilla Sherry Butts.
Cask #:
Bottles Filled: 1200
Nose: Sharp peat and cereal, and some big young notes – dank, almost. But absolutely balanced and correct. Deeper, burnt cereal with time, and a lovely winey note backing it. Good stuff.
Body: Rich, sweet and very full bodied, balanced and intense. Red berries, red wine and tannins all the way.
Finish: Spicy and very sweet, lots of wine – sherry and red wine casks I would have guessed, but Manzanilla it is. A long, intense finish.
What's not good about it: Spikes of immaturity throughout – tasted blind I might have said this is the kind of unbalanced delivery you might get from a single cask.
What's good about it: But that's mitigated by a lot of enjoyment at the many things it does get right – intense and delicious throughout, with great, balanced peat character, lots of red fruit and tannic like a good red wine.
