The Scotch Malt Whisky Society – Latest Outturn & Burns Night!
IF RABBIE BURNS DID AFTERNOON TEA – CASK No. 7.195
Description: Indulge in a sophisticated soirée with our celebratory bottling 7.195 If Rabbie Burns did afternoon tea. Sweet, fruity and mellow, let this charming whisky captivate your senses with delicious banana bread, crystallised ginger, spiced apricot chutney and the aroma of a red, red rose. Price: £65.00 |
SAILING SHIP IN STORMY SEAS – CASK No. 29.237
Description: Even just pouring the sample into the bottle we realised this was a ‘Big One’ not to be taken lightly like a storm brewing out to sea. Menacing, dark, gloomy, oily, briny, salty sea air, seaweed, burning reclaimed tarry shipwreck timbers and smoke from blazing lavender bushes prepared us for trying it neat. Price: £124.00 |
TEASING AND PLAYFUL – CASK No. 37.100
Description: This is a gentle, subtle nose of chalky sweets, orchard fruits, Eve’s pudding, chocolate limes and a tin of assorted biscuits; cinnamon swirls and hints of ginger lie underneath. The palate is warm and spicy – still delivering mango and tutti frutti ice-cream, but now also liquorice and blackcurrant, chilli jam, lemon peel, toasted coconut, nutmeg and ginger – a mouth-feel of teasing, earthy spice tingles. Price: £56.50 |
RELAXING IN A SAUNA – CASK No. 46.57
Description: An interesting nose! Sweet, fruity and floral, with custard creams, refreshers, and lemon sponge-cake, but also something almost earthy, like greenhouses, vanilla pipe tobacco or woollen socks drying by the fire. The palate combined separate strands – sweetness (Victoria sponge, tinned peaches, Dolly Mixtures, wine gums), wood (balsa, cedar, wood-sap, eucalyptus) and spice (cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, peppercorns). Price: £105.00 |
WARM BUTTER ON BANANA BREAD – CASK No. G10.13
Description: Warm butter croissants and buttered popcorn appeared to be the order of the day, alongside thick slices of banana bread and freshly planed wood with a thin layer of runny honey. With time caramel wafers appeared with cinnamon and cloves that began to point heavily towards a well-aged bourbon whiskey. Price: £102.00 |

The Search Is On For The 2018 Chivas Masters Global Champion!
CHIVAS HARNESSES COMMUNITY SPIRIT IN SEARCH FOR THE 2018 CHIVAS MASTERS GLOBAL CHAMPION
APPLICATIONS OPEN FOR BARTENDERS WHO CREATIVELY CAPTURE THE SPIRIT OF THEIR COMMUNITY
Chivas Regal has launched its search for the 2018 Chivas Masters Global Champion. Now in its fifth year, the Chivas Masters is a global competition that celebrates bartenders who demonstrate cutting-edge skill and creativity and share Chivas Regal’s core values of community, collaboration and generosity.
Launching in 22 countries across six continents, the Chivas Masters offers bartenders a once in a lifetime opportunity to grow their skills in a collaborative environment where they can learn from peers, alumni and industry experts from across the globe. This year, the theme of community will sit at the very heart of the competition, with the national stages challenging participants to produce a Chivas drink that is inspired by someone in their local community. The winner of each of the 22 national finals will go on to the Global Final to represent their market and compete for the coveted title of Chivas Masters Global Champion 2018.
This year’s Global Final will be hosted in the United Kingdom – both in London and at Strathisla distillery in Speyside, the spiritual home of Chivas Regal. Throughout a series of masterclasses and intense individual and team challenges, the bartenders’ skills and creativity will be tested, and they will have to prove that they can be as generous with their expertise as they are with a dram of Chivas Regal, by collaborating with their fellow finalists to achieve shared success.
At the culmination of the six-day programme, the Chivas Masters Global Champion 2018 will be crowned, and will win an all-expenses-paid trip to Tales of The Cocktail 2018 in New Orleans, and the chance to travel the world with Chivas to inspire the bartenders of the future.
At Chivas Regal, we believe that generosity and success go hand in hand – a belief inspired by our founding brothers, James and John Chivas, who shared their success with the local community as their business grew.
These are the values that have influenced the Chivas Masters right from the start, and the reason why in 2018 we are beyond excited to bring the Global Final home to where our brand, values and indeed our own community were born.
– Max Warner: Global Brand Ambassador for Chivas Regal
