Scapa

Scapa Malt Whisky

Scapa is a small distillery producing up to 1 million litres per year at full capacity. It was founded in 1885 by Macfarlane & Townsend and is situated in the Orkney archipelago near Highland Park distillery.
The nearby Scapa Flow is a stretch of water between the North Sea and the Atlantic ocean and is famous as the final resting place of the German naval fleet, scuppered by their crews at the end of the First World War.

The whisky has a medium-bodied taste, dryish, almost heathery flavour and a superbly complimentary malty finish.

Summary: Taking their singnature smooth fruity single malt, which is aged in American Oak casks, this expression is then rested in peated casks. This creates richness and depth, with notes of warm, heather honey and soft fruits giving way to a subtle smoky finish. Batch: GL01. Bottled 08/16 Distilled on Orkney, Scotland – at Scapa Distillery.

Bottler:
Summary: 70cl / 40% / Distillery Bottling – The initially controversial 16yo official expression of Scapa is now winning people round with a jump in quality after a few wobbly years following the rapid transition from the much-loved 12yo via the short-lived 14yo. Orkney's less shouted about (but still lovely in its own way) malt whisky has found its feet.

Bottler:
Summary: 70cl / 40% / Distillery Bottling – From a tiny distillery in Orkney, Scapa is often overlooked in favour of its more famous neighbour Highland Park. This 14yo was quite a shortlived bottling -it was introduced by then new owners Chivas Brothers to replace the old 12yo, but was subsequently superseded by the now-familiar 16 year old standard official bottling.
