Tamnavulin

Tamnavulin Malt Whisky

Tamnavulin was established in Speyside in 1966 and means ‘mill on the hill’ in Gaelic but stopped production thirty years later. Original owners Invergordon Distillers (owners of Isle of Jura) were snapped up by Whyte & Mackay (owners of Fettercairn and Dalmore) in 1993.
Whyte & Mackay mothballed Tamnavulin two years later in 1995. After a series of identity crises, name changes, management buyouts and takeovers, Whyte & Mackay including the Tamnavulin distillery was sold to Indian tycoon Vijay Mallya’s United Spirits in 2007.
It’s style is Malty, aromatic and herbal with a light body.

Summary: Matured in American Oak Barrels and enhanced by a finesse in three different Sherry casks. A classic revelation from the Speyside Valley Tasting notes: Colour: Amber gold. Nose: A bouquet marked by freshly baked tarte tatin and vanilla pod, soon giving way to another level of charm as nuances of banana, caramelised orange and fresh ginger completes this tapestry of temptation. Palate: Warm and inviting. The palate detects an avalanche of exotic flavours, glazed nectarines and frangipane, shortly enlightened by hints of sticky toffee pudding, Demerara sugar and Seville oranges. Finish: Complex and rich. Fruit cake, over ripe apricots.
