The giant, illuminated distillery map featured in hit BBC TV documentary Scotch! The Story of Whisky is being auctioned for charity by series producer Move On Up Productions.
The map, which is made from corrugated iron and whisky barrel staves, marks every operational distillery in Scotland with a bright, shining light. Created especially for the popular BBC documentary, it is truly one of a kind.
It was used during the series by presenter and whisky-loving Scottish actor David Hayman to highlight the vast spread of Scotland’s whisky distilling industry.
Cromarty-based Move on Up Productions has now partnered with online magazine Scotchwhisky.com to auction the map to raise funds for Spirit Aid, the humanitarian relief organisation founded in 2001 by series presenter David Hayman.
Based in Glasgow, Spirit Aid is dedicated to assisting young people and children whose lives have been affected by war, poverty, lack of opportunity or humanitarian crisis, and is currently running programmes in Palestine, Afghanistan, Malawi and Scotland.
Measuring 2.4m x 1.8m, the map would be perfect for a whisky bar, distillery visitor centre, whisky event or any premises with a mission to inform and educate people about Scotch whisky.
A geeky guy we know believes that it is possible to wire it up to a till, so if a whisky from a specific distillery was being bought, the appropriate light would be illuminated.

A full technical spec can be provided for interested bidders.
The silent auction is being operated by Scotchwhisky.com, which is inviting sealed bids starting at £150 to be emailed to whiskymap@scotchwhisky.com.
The auction will close at midnight GMT on Sunday 20 November. Delivery is free within the UK but a successful overseas bidder will have to pay for transportation.
Scotch! The Story of Whisky aired on three consecutive Tuesday evenings in October on BBC 2 Scotland, and was watched across the UK on BBC iPlayer.
Presented by David Hayman, the documentary charted the rise of Scotch whisky, including the global popularity of blends to today’s world of investing and collecting.
I went on a pilgrimage to find out why such a simple drink has come to mean so much. From the makers to the marketeers and the chemists to the cocktail-makers, and from the Highlands to Hobart in Tasmania, I found that Scotch is Scotland’s gift to the world.
– David Hayman: Presenter
This distinctive distillery map was a central feature of Scotch! The Story of Whisky, and instantly recognisable to the many viewers across the UK who tuned in to discover more about the world’s favourite whisky.
We’re proud to be working with Move On Up Productions in auctioning the map in support of Spirit Aid. No doubt it will be a welcome addition to an existing whisky business or bar seeking to further enhance its educational offer for visitors.
