Macduff

Macduff Malt Whisky

A comparatively new distillery, Macduff was founded in 1962 by a consortium of local businessmen. The distillery was taken over by William Lawson’s, who produced the famous blend of the same name, in 1972, by which time the number of stills had been increased from two to four. Lawson’s became part of Martini-Rossi in the early 1980s, the latter itself being taken over by Bacardi in 1992, shortly after another still had been added to make a total of five. The distillery is now run under Bacardi’s subsidiary Dewar’s.

The spirit from Macduff distillery has been subject to a number of experiments over the years, being the first distillery to use a metal mash-tun or steam heating. Official bottlings have been released under the name of Glen Deveron, while independent bottlings use the Macduff name.
