Bruichladdich (the ‘ch’ is silent) based in Northern Islay was founded in 1881 and re-opened in 2000. Since then the distillery has been transformed from a worthy but rather dull distillery into one of the most exciting, recognisable and innovative brands, not only on Islay, but in the entire whisky world.
This has been due in no small part to the marketing skills of Mark Reynier and his team, together with the knowledge, experience, passion and commitment of Jim McEwan, one of the industry’s most celebrated ambassadors.
The water used in it’s production is drawn direct from the spring, before it has had contact with peat and they use lightly or un-peated barley. The resulting whisky is lighter flavoured, less smoky, mossy (rather than peaty), with some seaweed, some nuts, but still a dry finish.
