Ardmore

Ardmore Malt Whisky

Ardmore has recently been relaunched by owners Beam Global (purchased in 2005 from Allied Domecq), with the first official botelling for many years: Ardmore Traditional Cask. This peated malt is similar to sister distillery Laphroaig’s Quarter Cask bottling. The malt is matured in traditional barrels before a second maturation in smaller casks to accelerate the development of the whisky due to increased contact with the wood.

Summary: The Ardmore Legacy is a unique expression of the Ardmore; a marriage of peated and un-peated single malt whisky. A complex process that yields an astounding result – the smoothy peated yet perfectly balanced liquid that is The Ardmore. Traditionally handcrafted in the Scottish Highlands, The Ardmore distillery has been watched over by a family of rare eagles, since 1898. This is a place, and indeed a process, that brings man, might and metal together is a celebration of the raw power of nature. Taste: Light, silky peat-smoke & creamy vanilla, balanced with sweet honey & spice.

Summary: Newly released in 2014 to replace the Ardmore Traditional, and to realign the brand with a modern new look and taste, but keeping the traditional aspect well and truly alive. Made with 80% Peated malt and 20% unpeated malt, keeping it light and sweet. Official tasting notes: Nose – Heather Honey with hints of cinnamon and toffee bonbon. Very subtle hints of peat smoke. Palate – Creamy vanilla spice gives way to more overt smoky charcoal notes, especially with the addition of water. Smoke doesnt dominate and is balanced by the sweet honey and spice flavours. Finish – Full bodied, silky mouth feel with a (trademark Ardmore) dry, tangy and lingering aftertaste, coupled with delicious spice notes. Distilled at Ardmore Distillery, Kennethmont, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
