Founded in 1824 and one of the most popular distilleries in the world. Over the last fourty years Macallan has built arguably the best reputation for quality malt whisky and is the most sought-after whisky for collectors.
Rare expressions can change hands for thousands of pounds and prices for such bottles are continuously going up (in 2007 a bottle of 1926 vintage The Macallan was sold at a Christie’s auction for $54,000).
The Macallan has been distilled by craftsmen on the same estate in particularly small, hand-beaten copper stills and while other distillers no longer insist on using 100% sherry oak casks, at Macallan this costly tradition is maintained. This results in a rich whisky with a good depth of flavour.
In recent years a new range of Macallans were launched: the Fine Oak expressions, which are matured in a mix of sherry and bourbon oak casks.
