Jameson – Rarest Vintage Reserve 70cl Bottle Country: Irish Region: Irish Summary: Nose: A real full bodied aroma. Initially sweet with ripe fruit notes of melon, bananas and dark fleshy plums. The unmistakable pot still spicy character combines to give hints of treacle, cinnamon and liquorice. Taste: A mouthful of flavours. Mellow sweetness and toasted wood are complemented by fruit richness characteristic of the port casks. A touch of creamy dairy fudge and dark chocolate add to the complexity. Finish: A tantalisingly long finish which covers the spectrum from the sweetness of fruit, through the spices to the unmistakable note of barley, where it all began. You've met the Jameson Family, now meet the Godfather of them all, Jameson Rarest Vintage Reserve. This initial expression of maturing rare pot still whiskey in traditional fortified wine casks is a triumph of the collaboration between the Jameson Masters; devotees to their craft whose skill and artistry have been richly rewarded. All the whiskeys in this magnificent Reserve are of an advanced age and have an immense collage of flavours to impart from their time in the wood. The pick of Jameson's older grain whiskeys were brought together with some rare and charismatic pot still whiskeys that had been matured in hand-picked second fill bourbon casks. These were carefully married with a rare pot still whiskey that was aged to a fantastic mellow sweetness in specially commissioned port pipes. The resulting union has a glorious, fruit rich character. |

Compass Box – Hedonism Limited Release 70cl Bottle Country: Scotland Region: Age: Strength: 100% Summary: Type: Vatted Grain. 100% grain whisky made by blending single grain whiskies from different distilleries. Tasting Notes: Elegant flavours of vanilla cream, toffee, coconut. Lead Distilleries: Cambus, Caledonian, Cameron Bridge. Casks: 100% first-fill bourbon barrels and first-fill American oak hogsheads. Bottling Details: 43%, not chill filtered, natural colour. John Glaser's Tasting Notes: A rich, sweet, sexy style of whisky which you'll find is aptly named! Have you ever tasted really good grain whisky from Scotland? Unless you've tried the stuff in the bottle to the left, you probably have not. Most people haven't, even many serious whisky lovers. Almost no one bottles it! I believe that great grain whiskies from well chosen casks are the undiscovered treasures of Scotland's whisky kingdom. That's why I created this whisky called Hedonism! Hedonism is our award winning blend of grain whiskies. Stylistically, this is, (in my humble opinion), a beautiful drink: supple, silky, with elegant, rich flavours of vanilla, toffee, coconut and cocoa. It's also a rare whisky in that it's composed of the most perfectly mature casks of grain whisky we can find, and also because it always contains at least some component whiskies from Cambus. Cambus was sadly shut in the early 1990s, but is beloved by blenders for its soft, sweet style. Grain whiskies have been made in Scotland going back to the early part of the 1800s. They are the elegant, almost feminine alter ego to Scotland's malt whiskies. Most people think of them as the 'filler' whiskies in the well-known, commercial blends, but this is far from the whole story. Each grain whisky distillery in Scotland makes a distinctive spirit. And the best grain whiskies–from great casks–are some of the silkiest, sweetest, most mouth-wateringly delicious whiskies in the world. Hedonism is like nothing that's been bottled before in Scotland. No one has ever made a 'vatted grain' (a blend of single grain whiskies from different distilleries) that shows off how delicious Scottish grain whiskies can be! It's a rare and seriously sexy style of Scotch whisky, unlike anything else on the market. |

Laphroaig – 10 Year Old 70cl Bottle Country: Scotland Region: Islay Age: 10 Year Old Strength: Summary: Laphroaig Malt Whisky is distilled in the Islay region of Scotland. Laphroaig (pronounced la-froyg) is one of the most distinctive of all malt whiskies. The distillery was built in the 1820s by Donald and Alex Johnson whose family name is still on the label. In 1847 Donald died in a somewhat bizarre accident after falling into a vat of partially made whisky ('burn't Ale'). Laphroaig (Gaelic: The beautiful hollow by the broad bay) has its own peat beds on Islay. Its maturation warehouses face directly on to the sea. For many, it is an acquired taste, but one which rewards persistance. Its palate is smokey with a long aftertaste. If you like Islay smokey whiskies, then you'll love this one, you can almost taste the sea. |
