IF RABBIE BURNS DID AFTERNOON TEA – CASK No. 7.195

IF RABBIE BURNS DID AFTERNOON TEA – CASK No. 7.195

Description: Indulge in a sophisticated soirée with our celebratory bottling 7.195 If Rabbie Burns did afternoon tea. Sweet, fruity and mellow, let this charming whisky captivate your senses with delicious banana bread, crystallised ginger, spiced apricot chutney and the aroma of a red, red rose.

Price: £65.00

SAILING SHIP IN STORMY SEAS – CASK No. 29.237

Description: Even just pouring the sample into the bottle we realised this was a ‘Big One’ not to be taken lightly like a storm brewing out to sea. Menacing, dark, gloomy, oily, briny, salty sea air, seaweed, burning reclaimed tarry shipwreck timbers and smoke from blazing lavender bushes prepared us for trying it neat.

Price: £124.00

TEASING AND PLAYFUL – CASK No. 37.100

Description: This is a gentle, subtle nose of chalky sweets, orchard fruits, Eve’s pudding, chocolate limes and a tin of assorted biscuits; cinnamon swirls and hints of ginger lie underneath. The palate is warm and spicy – still delivering mango and tutti frutti ice-cream, but now also liquorice and blackcurrant, chilli jam, lemon peel, toasted coconut, nutmeg and ginger – a mouth-feel of teasing, earthy spice tingles.

Price: £56.50

RELAXING IN A SAUNA – CASK No. 46.57

Description: An interesting nose! Sweet, fruity and floral, with custard creams, refreshers, and lemon sponge-cake, but also something almost earthy, like greenhouses, vanilla pipe tobacco or woollen socks drying by the fire. The palate combined separate strands – sweetness (Victoria sponge, tinned peaches, Dolly Mixtures, wine gums), wood (balsa, cedar, wood-sap, eucalyptus) and spice (cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, peppercorns).

Price: £105.00

WARM BUTTER ON BANANA BREAD – CASK No. G10.13

Description: Warm butter croissants and buttered popcorn appeared to be the order of the day, alongside thick slices of banana bread and freshly planed wood with a thin layer of runny honey. With time caramel wafers appeared with cinnamon and cloves that began to point heavily towards a well-aged bourbon whiskey.

Price: £102.00

"Over the years of crafting fine Scotch whiskies I've had the remarkable privilege of working with some of the rarest spirits ever to come out of Scotland," says Jim Beveridge, Master Blender for Johnnie Walker.
Today, Johnnie Walker, one of the most renowned Scotch Whiskies in the world, announced the launch of Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare, the first in a series of special releases crafted using irreplaceable whiskies from "ghost" distilleries that have long since closed together with other rare malt and grain whiskies. Each edition will be crafted with one incredible whisky at its heart, the first being Brora.
Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare is a rich, velvety smooth blend of eight treasured Scotch Whiskies including three "ghost" whiskies from the silent distilleries of Cambus, Pittyvaich and the Highland Single Malt, Brora, which lies at the heart of this special release bringing a deliciously light peatiness and sophisticated subtle sweetness.
Jim Beveridge – Master Blender of the Year in 2015 and 2016 – has long been fascinated by how whiskies from a small number of iconic distilleries that closed many years ago can bring the extraordinary richness for which Johnnie Walker Blue Label luxury Scotch is known.
"Whiskies from these ghost distilleries are becoming increasingly rare," Jim says. "From our library of irreplaceable casks that we keep exclusively for Johnnie Walker Blue Label, I've chosen a few uniquely full-bodied expressions of these precious malts and grains to let people explore, in a new way, the extraordinary richness found in our pinnacle whisky.
In crafting Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare, Jim blended the three ghost whiskies with five rare expressions of malt and grains from the existing distilleries of Royal Lochnagar, Clynelish, Glenkinchie, Glenlossie and Cameronbridge.
The result is a wonderfully smooth Scotch, with the fruity sweetness of pineapple, rich notes of hazelnut and dark chocolate and a subtle smoky finish.
"Exploring rare spirits is a lifelong passion," Jim says. "I'm lucky that we have stocks from more than 30 distilleries from every region of Scotland from which to choose the perfect casks to craft each blend. It gives us a richness of character, flavour and age that no other Scotch can match."
