The Glenlivet Founders Reserve Released!

March 30, 2015 by Gary Leave a Comment

The Glenlivet Founders Reserve

The Glenlivet Founders Reserve

The Glenlivet has today announced the arrival of Founder’s Reserve in the UK and Germany. Unveiled in October last year, Founder’s Reserve is a new, permanent benchmark expression in the brand’s core range that has been created as the ultimate tribute to founder George Smith’s original vision to craft the most definitive, smooth single malt Scotch whisky.

With Founder’s Reserve, The Glenlivet’s perfectly-balanced and fruity house style is skilfully complemented with a creaminess and sweetness from the addition of First Fill American oak casks. The result is a single malt Scotch whisky of exceptional smoothness; the very quality for which George Smith’s The Glenlivet was widely admired and appreciated for in his day.

This expression is presented in a clear glass bottle that draws attention to the quality of the pale gold whisky inside. The Georgian Blue carton is both classic and contemporary in style and features George Smith’s signature, which provides stand-out appeal on shelf and honours Smith’s original style of whisky. Inclusion of the new The Glenlivet signifier, featuring the Packhorse Bridge that crosses the River Livet, appears on both the bottle cartouche and on the lid of the carton, demonstrating the brand’s rich provenance as ‘the single malt that started it all’.

Nikki Burgess, Global Brand Director for The Glenlivet, said: “We are very excited about sharing Founder’s Reserve with discerning whisky drinkers around the world. The expression now sits alongside The Glenlivet 12 Year Old in our global range and adds a twist of creaminess to the classic The Glenlivet style, which we are confident will appeal to whisky fans who seek out The Glenlivet’s benchmark quality for single malt Scotch whisky.

“The Glenlivet has been the largest contributor to the growth in single malt over the last five years and we look forward to Founder’s Reserve rolling out around the world, as its exceptional taste and link to the distillery’s past are sure to help us continue our success in the future.”

Alan Winchester, Master Distiller for The Glenlivet, added: “It has been an absolute privilege to craft a whisky in tribute to the man whose talent, dedication and vision for creating the definitively smooth single malt has led to The Glenlivet style that we know and admire today. In marrying together a selection of traditional and First Fill American oak casks from our inventory, I have been able to craft a complex whisky in The Glenlivet style with a pronounced creaminess, sweetness and smoothness that I am sure George would have approved of.

“For me, the nose has delicate aromas of citrus fruit and the sweet palate imparts zesty orange and toffee notes alongside classic The Glenlivet pear flavours, which is followed by a long, creamy and smooth finish. I’m really eager to hear what our fans old and new think about our latest interpretation of The Glenlivet through Founder’s Reserve and look forward to tasting it with them at the distillery in the coming months.”

Sampling The Glenlivet Founders Reserve – A Towering Reputation!

February 27, 2015 by Gary Leave a Comment

The Glenlivet Founders Reserve

The Glenlivet Founders Reserve – A Towering Reputation

The Glenlivet Founders Reserve, announced last October and due to be released this March, is a new single malt that has been almost 200 years in the making.

Created to honour the original vision of their pioneering founder George Smith, The Glenlivet Founders Reserve pays tribute to the uniquely smooth and fruity taste he first envisioned way back in 1824.

Distilled using the same time-honoured techniques introduced by George Smith himself, The Glenlivet Founders Reserve is drawn predominantly from a range of traditional aged oak casks.

So, what did I think?

Here are my tasting notes …

Tasting Notes – The Glenlivet Founders Reserve ( 40% )

A NAS (No Age Statement) single malt whisky.

Nose: Heavenly citrus aromas with a hint of apple and vanilla creaminess. Slight woodiness in there as well.

Palate: Light feeling on the tongue, very delicate. Gentle fruits with a little vanilla.

Finish: Hint of pepper and spice adds well to a creamy finish which is moderately long.

Overall: An impeccably smooth, light dram that’s not too heavy on the palate.

Summary

There seemed to be a lot of flavours akin to the 12 Year Old in this dram, so you can’t go wrong there! A very drinkable dram. In fact, the more I dram it, the more I wish the sample bottle was a little larger!

Thanks to @TheGlenlivet and @DrinksPRAgency for the samples!

The Glenlivet 12 Year Old Launches New Limited Edition Gift Packs For Christmas!

December 10, 2014 by Gary Leave a Comment

The Glenlivet 12YO Limited Edition Range

The Glenlivet 12YO Limited Edition Range

The Glenlivet has today unveiled a new limited edition gift pack series, aimed to increase on-shelf appeal for its 12 Year Old expression during the pre-Christmas gifting season.
Created in partnership with Master Typographer Alan Kitching, the bold new packaging highlights The Glenlivet’s dedication to crafted quality and brings to life the heritage of the definitive Speyside malt.

The gifting series, which features specially-commissioned letter press artwork by Kitching, an appointed royal designer, includes The Glenlivet 12 Year Old (70cl), as well as two value added packs: one with two branded glasses and a second with 5cl miniature bottles of the 15 Year Old French Oak Reserve and 18 Year Old expressions.

Each of the value added packs contains a booklet detailing The Glenlivet’s brand story and the partnership with Kitching, which was inspired by the shared tradition, craftsmanship and skill found in both the art of letter press printing and the creation of quality, single malt whisky.

The story of The Glenlivet, which started in 1824 when George Smith founded the first licensed distillery in the parish of Glenlivet, is explored on the packaging alongside references to its rich heritage. These include King George IV’s request for “Glenlivet” by name in 1822, together with other examples of how this renowned single malt set the standard of quality and craftsmanship that went on to define the Speyside style of whisky.

Nikki Burgess, Global Brand Director of The Glenlivet, comments: “The Glenlivet has worked with Alan Kitching to create a design for our flagship expression that is both bold and eye-catching; something that will stand out this Christmas while also highlighting some of the key moments in the brand’s inspiring history.

“Letterpress printing is a traditional technique which mirrors the time-honoured craftsmanship of The Glenlivet. We have then presented the prints in an eye-catching way on pack, resulting in a contemporary gift that we anticipate will appeal to whisky fans.”

The Glenlivet: ‘It All Comes Back To The Original’

November 20, 2014 by Gary Leave a Comment

The Glenlivets new global campaign

The Glenlivets new global campaign

The Glenlivet, the single malt that started it all, has announced the launch of its new global communications campaign: ‘It All Comes Back To The Original’.

The campaign, which is rolling out around the world, aims to capture and celebrate The Glenlivet’s spirit of originality, communicating its role as a single malt with a style to which others can only aspire and encouraging the same originality from its fans.

Developed to engage directly with discerning men in emerging, developing and mature malt markets, the campaign assets include a film for TV and online usage, print, out of home and digital banners. Following a successful launch in the US last month, spearheaded by the TV Commercial, the campaign is now rolling out globally.

The creative features inspiring words that relate to The Glenlivet’s reputation for setting the quality, craft and style benchmarks of the Speyside region. These words are presented in a bold, confident style and, in each creative, a word with the opposite meaning is then further shown as a shadowed reflection.

Furthermore, the look and feel of the headline words in the print, out of home and banner advertisements are inspired by authentic distillery materials such as copper, oak and steel.

The campaign film is shot with a balance of tradition and heritage with contemporary imagery, and depicts the comparative sets of words against the renowned Speyside landscape and the bustling distillery during the production process, reinforcing the premium and craft credentials of the range.

Nikki Burgess, Global Brand Director for The Glenlivet, said: “2014 has been a landmark year for The Glenlivet – a result of consistent innovation, the buoyant global malt market and our on-going commitment to setting the quality benchmark for Speyside.

“We expect the market’s dynamism to remain and, with this new global advertising campaign, we are confident that we will engage and inspire consumers with the core values of The Glenlivet. In speaking directly to discerning men and conveying The Glenlivet’s crafted quality and originality, we hope to engage with them as they seek to be originals in their own lives too.”

The campaign video can also be seen here.

The Glenlivet Unveils It’s Founder’s Reserve!

October 31, 2014 by Gary Leave a Comment

The Glenlivet Founder's Reserve

The Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve

The Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve is a new, permanent benchmark expression in the brand’s core range.

It has been created as the ultimate tribute to founder George Smith’s original vision to craft the definitive, smooth single malt whisky.

According to Laurent Lacassagne, Chairman & CEO, Chivas Brothers, “Founder’s Reserve brings to life the heart and soul of The Glenlivet – at its core is the perfectly balanced smooth and fruity flavour that The Glenlivet is renowned for. We are very proud to introduce this new expression during what has been an incredible 12 months for the brand, and which will enable us to meet increased demand for super-premium spirits with something unique to offer.”

With Founder’s Reserve, The Glenlivet house style is skilfully complemented with a creaminess and sweetness from the addition of First Fill American oak casks, resulting in a malt of exceptional smoothness; the very quality for which George Smith’s The Glenlivet was widely admired and appreciated in his day. This exceptional new spirit will be rolling out in markets globally from March 2015, priced alongside The Glenlivet’s 12 Year Old expression.

The Glenlivet has also revealed that in September this year, it had achieved sales of one million cases per annum.

Laurent Lacassagne added: “The Glenlivet has been the biggest contributor to the growth of the single malt Scotch whisky category in the last five years and, in September 2014, reached the impressive milestone of one million case sales per annum. This fantastic achievement is driven by a robust performance in volume but an even stronger performance in value, which is a testament first and foremost to the high quality of our product.”

The introduction of Founder’s Reserve follows on from the recent historic release of The Glenlivet Winchester Collection, the world’s first collection of 50 Year Old single malt Scotch whiskies.
Launched earlier this month, the collection is anticipated to become one of the most sought after and priceless whisky collections in the world and epitomises the brand’s commitment to innovation in crafted Scotch whisky.

Sitting Comfortably? You Could Be – The Glenlivet Nàdurra Dram Chair!

October 14, 2014 by Gary Leave a Comment

The Glenlivet Nàdurra Dram Chair

The Glenlivet Nàdurra Dram Chair

Are you sitting comfortably? Well you could be!

The Glenlivet has unveiled the latest innovation from its Nàdurra range, The Glenlivet Nàdurra Dram Chair.

A celebration of modern craftsmanship, the Dram Chair aims to provide the perfect setting in which whisky connoisseurs can relax and enjoy a dram of single malt Scotch whisky.

The Dram Chair is the result of a collaboration with award-winning British designer, Gareth Neal, whose original furniture is popular among discerning customers around the world.

Neal drew inspiration from the traditional, nineteenth century productionmethods at the heart of Nàdurra, meaning ‘natural’ in Gaelic, to design a contemporary piece that captures the spirit of the range. The frame of the chair is hand-crafted from oak, so crucial to the maturation of The Glenlivet spirit, while the leather seat has been steeped in oak bark by the only remaining oak tannery in Great Britain.

The copper rivets, which mirror the distillery’s copper pot stills, secure the chair and ensure that it will withstand the test of time and a dram can be nestled comfortably on the chair’s arm The original design will be on display for a limited time at The New Craftsmen store in Mayfair, London, before it becomes an exhibit at The Glenlivet Distillery. Members of The Guardians of The Glenlivet online community can commission a chair to order at a cost of £6,200, and customise which arm of the chair should be equipped to house a dram. Each bespoke chair will be etched and numbered to create subtle variations and originality for collectors.

Commenting on the launch, Gareth said: “My core values are people, process and place, so spending time with the handful of people who make The Glenlivet Nàdurra and witnessing first-hand the time-honoured processes that are used to create this fine whisky was truly inspiring. I have used a similar, hand-crafted approach to my own production methods for this unique dram chair. “Enjoying a dram is a moment of escapism and I wanted to immerse the sitter in the materials that have brought this moment of pleasure about, in absolute comfort. The piece is so lightweight that it can literally be transported to a location of choice. I imagined a dramatic vista of the Scottish Highlands but the collector can create their own perfect Nàdurra moment.”

Nikki Burgess, Global Brand Director of The Glenlivet, added: “Neal and The New Craftsmen were obvious partners to commission to make The Glenlivet Nàdurra Dram Chair. They are passionately committed to a shared vision: combining the unique heritage of British craftsmanship with a sense of modernity. The partnership has resulted in something naturally crafted that is surprising and unique – a timeless original.”

The Glenlivet Nàdurra is batch produced at cask strength using traditional methods and is bottled without chill-filtration, which offers additional complexity, body and a richer texture. The Dram Chair launch continues an innovative year for The Glenlivet Nàdurra, which has included the expansion of the range with two permanent new additions; Nàdurra Oloroso, matured exclusively in sherry casks, is extending its presence from Travel Retail into domestic markets, while Nàdurra First Fill Selection was launched last month and is rolling out into markets worldwide.

You can watch a video of the chair being made here.

Permanent Release for The Glenlivet Nàdurra Range

September 9, 2014 by Gary Leave a Comment

The Glenlivet

The Glenlivet Nadurra First Fill

Glenlivet has unveiled a second new permanent expression to it’s Nàdurra range.

The Glenlivet Nàdurra First Fill Selection is drawn from casks made from American White Oak that have never before been used to mature Scotch whisky.

These casks have always been a popular choice of distillers at The Glenlivet since the early 1900s, imparting hints of creamy vanilla to the malt whisky.

The release follows the initial launch of The Glenlivet Nàdurra Oloroso earlier this year and is supported by a new cask strength edition of this expression – The Glenlivet Nàdurra Oloroso Cask Strength.

The Glenlivet

The Glenlivet Nadurra Oloroso

Celebrating the highly skilful traditions of whisky making at The Glenlivet, all expressions in the Nàdurra range (Gaelic for natural) are bottled without chill-filtration, offering the additional complexity, body and texture of a whisky that has just been drawn from the cask.

The 19th Century production methods, combined with maturation in first-fill American Oak casks, imparts The Glenlivet Nàdurra First Fill Selection with an inviting aroma of soft vanilla, fudge and sweet, ripe pears, developing into a tropical mix of pineapple, banana and citrus on the palate and leading to a refreshing finish.

Nikki Burgess, Global Brand Director for The Glenlivet said, “Whisky enthusiasts have admired The Glenlivet for its signature smooth and fruity flavour profile for nearly 200 years so, with our Nàdurra range, we want to highlight the skill and craftsmanship behind The Glenlivet.

The Glenlivet Nàdurra has long held an extra special place in the hearts of single malt whisky connoisseurs and we are confident that our new Nàdurra innovations will satisfy their increasing appetite for excellence in single malt whisky craftsmanship.”

Overall: A sweet sherried dram nicely mixing spices and fruit sweetness. A great addition to the Glenlivet range!

The Glenlivet is expanding its celebrated Nàdurra brand into a range featuring different cask experiences as it aims to build on its strong development in the growing single malt whisky market.

October 15, 2013 by Gary Leave a Comment

The Glenlivet Visitor Centre Staff

The Glenlivet Visitor Centre Staff

The Glenlivet distillery visitor centre has been named Best Visitor Attraction by the prestigious Highlands and Islands Tourism Awards (HITA).

The visitor centre saw off competition from the other shortlisted attractions to scoop the prize and will now go onto compete in the national Scottish Thistle Awards.

The centre which has been in operation for 35 years and attracts over 40,000 tourists annually from around the world, was transformed in 2013 to include three different daily tours that enhance the visitor experience and provide the opportunity to hand-fill and purchase your very own personalised bottle of The Glenlivet 18 Year Old single cask selection.

Following its upgrade, the centre put a strong emphasis on obtaining and analysing visitors’ feedback. Facebook and social media channels have become a vital part of this process, allowing the public to keep up with the distillery’s activities and tour availability.

This search for excellence in customer services really impressed the judges with Laurence Young, Chair of the judging panel for the HITA, commenting: “The Glenlivet Distillery’s application demonstrated that the organisation is really committed to listening to customers and responding to their feedback. Introducing great ideas during a recent major upgrade to the centre demonstrated that the company genuinely values the opinions and suggestions of the people visiting the centre each year.”

Introduced in 2005, The Highlands and Islands Tourism Awards promote and encourage excellence within Highlands and Islands tourism industry, rewarding the best businesses in the region.
