Balvenie / 14 Year old Peat Week (2002 Vintage)

Balvenie / 14 Year old Peat Week (2002 Vintage)

Expected release date is 4th Sep 2017!

The Balvenie Peat Week Aged 14 Years (2002 Vintage) is the result of trials undertaken in 2001 by The Balvenie Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE and our former distillery manager Ian Millar.

At a time when few Speyside distilleries were using peat in production, The Balvenie decided to distil a batch of heavily peated malt, which was laid down to mature at the distillery in Dufftown, Scotland.

Ever since then we’ve dedicated one week each year, named Peat Week, to using 100% Highland peat to dry our barley. Instead of coastal elements of iodine, salt and medicinal characteristics so commonly associated with Islay peat, Highland peat imparts earthy, woody smoke notes. This means that even though Peat Week is made using heavily peated malt (30ppm) it has an unexpected sweetness deeply rooted in the Speyside regional character.
The Balvenie Peat Week Aged 14 Years (2002 Vintage) is a single vintage bottling, limited and rare by nature. This non-chill filtered expression is bottled at 48.3% ABV and matured solely in American Oak casks, providing a velvety and round taste with woody peat smoke balancing oaky vanilla and honey.

NOSE: Gentle sweet peat smoke with some lighter floral notes and delicate butterscotch honey.

TASTE: Velvety and round to taste with the peat smoke balancing citrus flavours, oaky vanilla and blossom honey.

FINISH: Gentle smoke with a lingering and creamy vanilla sweetness.

The Balvenie Peat Week is available to pre order from the Edencroft Website.

Opens with an intense and richly spiced, maritime character on the nose, balanced with sweet smoke and caramelised fruit. The palate is mouth coating, abundantly spiced carrying charred oak, beach bonfire ashes and chewy leather. The finish is long, sea salt and dark chocolate, still richly spiced with lingering soot.

Paul John / Unpeated Single Cask #1906

£77.95
Country: Indian
Region: Indian
Age:
Strength: 55.9%
70cl

Summary: Country/Region: India/Goa. ABV: 55.9%. Unit: 70cl. Bottles Filled: 210 Nose: Sweet, sharp and dusty, with refreshing fruit – orange squash, pineapple rings and a little red apple skin. There's an oaky, bourbony sweetness underneath this – big cask and complexity. It has something I can't put my finger on, it might be that it's not Scottish or American… the wood is undeniably bourbony but it's more perfumed, with a different type of lemon and mango in the tropicality. Fruitier and creamier with water. I like it. Body: Hot, thick with toffee and spiced red apple, creamy and boozy like Irish coffee. Much better with water, it's so creamy and fruity it reminds me more of Amarula. Finish: Medium to long with chocolate toffees and black pepper. Reminds me of some recent single cask rums with water. This is tasty stuff, more complex than I first thought and has a lovely, creamy tropicality. Tasting Notes: Ben's Whisky Blog. Ratings: A+ Ben's Whisky Blog.

New Bourbon Whiskey Arrivals From Edencroft!

New Arrivals

Bakers / Small Batch Bourbon
Bakers / Small Batch Bourbon

£50.70
Country: American
Region: American
Age:
Strength: 53.5%
70cl

Summary: Country/Region: USA.
Unit: 70cl.
ABV: 53.5%
History: Jacob Boehm emigrated from Germany in 1760, changed his name to Beam and settled in the bluegrass lands of old Bourbon County which was then part of Virginia (it joined Kentucky later in 1792). Jacob sold his first barrel of whiskey in 1795. Since then seven generations of the Beam family have faithfully followed the time-honoured recipes and traditions. Jacob''s great grandson, James ''Jim'' Beam steered the family business through dramatic growth and then the tough times of Prohibition. After the repeal James (then aged 70) built a new distillery in Claremont, Kentucky and from this point on, the whiskey was called "Jim Beam Bourbon". Keeping up the great Beam family tradition, production is now overseen by Frederick Booker Noe III who is Jim''s great grandson.
Production: Named after Baker Beam, grand-nephew of the legendary Jim Beam, Baker''s Bourbon is 7 years old and hand-bottled at 53.5% abv (107 proof). Made in small batches using a special mix of grains and fermented using a special strain of rare jug yeast that''s been used by the Beam family for over 60 years. This time tested yeast provides Baker''s with a silky smooth texture and consistent taste from batch to batch. Aged for 7 years in new American oak barrels, which give this bourbon a deeply mellow, richly flavourful, medium-bodied taste with a delicious aroma full of fruit and vanilla.
Tasting note: Warm amber with deep tawny glints. Aromas of fruit with warm notes of new oak, vanilla and caramel. On the palate it has a delightfully silky texture, nutty toasted notes mingle with fruit flavours and vanilla. Sweet, smooth and quite long on the finish.

Age:
Strength: 40.%
70cl

Summary: COUNTRY/REGION: USA/Kentucky.
UNIT: 70cl.
ABV: 40%
Late in the 18th century, Master Distiller Basil Hayden Sr. left his Maryland home for the greener pastures of Kentucky, bringing his family and reputation with him.
Not yet privy to the old guard’s ‘rules’ of bourbon, legend has it that Basil set out to make a batch simply using the ingredients he had on hand, unaware of what the traditionalists might think of his mash. What resulted was a bourbon with a uniquely high-rye mashbill, combining the sweetness of corn with the spicy undertones of rye. The purists may have been displeased, but not the neighbors who tried it.
Over 200 years later, the Noe family pays tribute to Basil’s masterful discovery with a high-rye, small batch bourbon that embodies the spirit of that very first recipe.
AROMA: Spice, tea, hint of peppermint.
TASTE: Spicy, light-bodied, gentle bite.
FINISH: Dry, clean, brief.

Unleash the bold spirit of Jim Beam® Devil’s Cut®, a premium bourbon with depth and complexity that comes from liquid extracted from inside the barrel wood.
All great bourbons have a magic to them, an element of mystery. As bourbon ages and matures, a portion is lost from the barrel due to evaporation. Many believe it’s angels claiming their dues; that’s why we call it the “Angel’s Share”—gone forever.
After aging, when the bourbon is dumped out of the barrel, some liquid stays trapped deep inside the wood. This is the “Devil’s Cut.” We’ve made history by extracting it.
We use a proprietary process that extracts the rich bourbon trapped inside the barrel wood. When ready, we then blend this liquid with extra-aged bourbon and bottle it at 90 proof (45% vol.) for robust, premium bourbon with deep color, aroma, and character.
TASTING NOTES: Deep amber colour Strong oak character on the nose with a hint of sweet vanilla and caramel. Full bodied with intense oak and vanilla notes, finishes long and smooth with a hint of sweetness.

Like all of our bourbons, the new Jim Beam® Double Oak is crafted in charred oak. Its rich flavor comes from being aged a second time in another separate barrel.
Jim Beam® Double Oak is first aged in charred American white oak barrels, then we pour it into another freshly charred barrel to mature for a second time. The added interaction with the oak wood results in a liquid intense in flavour, smooth in taste.
TASTING NOTES: An intense yet smooth taste featuring caramel, toffee and a distinctive spiced oakiness.

Jim Beam was founded in 1795 and has been operated by one family for seven generations. We’ve always created bourbon our way, aging it twice as long as the law requires. That’s how we Make History® every day.
220 years of experience goes into every bottle. Along with corn, rye, malted barley, water, time, pride, and of course, true passion. Isn’t it good to know some things never go out of style? Take a sip and you'll know what we mean.
While enjoying his drink, Fred Noe, Jim Beam’s great grandson, always thinks about what his family started in Clermont, Kentucky, more than 200 years ago: the world’s #1 selling bourbon enjoyed by people across the globe.

Created by Bill Samuels, Sr. to be a bourbon that he would enjoy drinking himself, Maker’s Mark® is smooth and approachable with an easy finish – a true contrast to hot, harsh whiskies that “blow your ears off,” and a downright revolutionary idea at the time. Maker’s Mark® is made slowly in small batches, in our National Historic Landmark distillery in Loretto, Kentucky. While it makes any cocktail better, a lot of folks still prefer it on its own, or over ice with a splash of water.
TASTING NOTES: Rich & smooth, this is said to be the first Kentucky Straight Bourbon marketed as a premium brand.

STATED AGE: 27 years old.
NUMBER OF BOTTLES: 500
STRENGTH: 51.3% Vol.
Rumoured to be one of the oldest in Scotland, and possibly even the world, the Littlemill distillery has a long and fascinating history. Officially established and producing whisky legally from 1772 in Bowling on the banks of the River Clyde near Glasgow, the distillery fell silent in 1994 and was subsequently destroyed by fire in 2004, never to produce a drop again.
As a result there is now a very limited amount of Littlemill single malt left and the spirit of the distillery lives on in a series of sought-after expressions. Priced officially at £2,250, Littlemill 2017 Private Cellar Edition is the second in the series celebrating this rare whisky. It offers aficionados the opportunity to acquire a piece of Lowland Scotch whisky history.
The latest release comprises 500 individually numbered limited edition bottles encasing the precious 27 Year Old whisky in the Littlemill Lowland style. Each opulent decanter is presented in a luxurious case which also features a unique piece of Littlemill cask used to mature this rare malt, as well as a miniature of the precious whisky itself.
Littlemill’s rich history includes a number of owners over its lifetime and it was notably one of the first distilleries to have a female licensee, Jane MacGregor, in 1823. In the 1930s, the distillery was known for triple distillation before moving to the more traditional double distillation now associated with Scotch whisky.
In 1931, under the stewardship of the American Duncan Thomas, Littlemill was at the forefront of still innovation with technical designs that could create three styles of single malts from full-bodied to light. These innovative stills provided the inspiration for the Loch Lomond Distillery, which was opened in the 1960s.
To create the edition, Master Blender, Michael Henry selected eight casks from 1990 to pay homage to the true Littlemill distillery character; creating a lighter, floral spirit, reminiscent of the triple distillation of the Duncan Thomas era.
Michael Henry, Master Blender at Loch Lomond Distillery, said: “It is rumoured that illicit distilling took place at the Littlemill distillery from 1750 and even for centuries before, possibly making it the world’s oldest whisky distillery.
“It’s a tragedy that the distillery fell silent and was later destroyed by fire, committing Littlemill to legend. Once the last precious drops are consumed, an important part of Scotland’s and Scotch whisky’s heritage will be lost forever. A sip of Littlemill 2017 Private Cellar Edition is more than just a memorable pleasure; it is a unique and historic experience and the spirit of the distillery and its innovative stills live on at the Loch Lomond Distillery today.”
Littlemill 2017 Private Cellar Edition has been crafted from casks with the strongest floral character and subtle wood notes from distillations between 11th and 19th May 1990. The casks were filled at 68.8% strength, allowing them to retain more of the distillery character throughout the maturation in refill bourbon barrels. Ageing in refill bourbon barrels gave a softer wood influence and once selected the casks were married in fresh bourbon barrels for 12 months before bottling.
Rare amongst the Lowland malts in using a Highland water source, as well as peat from Stornoway and Perthshire, Littlemill whiskies are renowned for a subtly floral, vanilla-rich sweetness.
