Glenfiddich Project XX & Free Glass From Edencroft!

Glenfiddich / Project XX & Free Glass
Glenfiddich / Project XX & Free Glass

Was: £51.50

Now: £39.50

Country: Scotland
Region: Speyside
Age:
Strength: 47.0%.
700 ml.

Summary:

COUNTRY/REGION: Scotland/Speyside.

CATEGORY: Single Malt.

DISTILLERY: Glenfiddich.

BOTTLER: Distillery Bottling.

BOTTLING SERIE: Experimental Series No. 02.

BOTTLED: 2016

STRENGTH: 47.0 % Vol.

SIZE: 700 ml.

The second experiment of the Glenfiddich Experimental Series took place privately at their Conval warehouse. Shrouded in secrecy, malt Master Brian Kinsman invited 20 whisky experts from around the world to select any expression of their choosing from the thousands of stacked casks. The final 20 chosen malts, matured in everything from port pipes to virgin bourbon barrels, have created an unusual, innovative and unexpected whisky, one that has exceeded even our expectations.

NOSE: complex. Not just complex but crafted, obviously, as there doesn't appear to be a single aroma strand out of place; it is like a malt that has spent the last few years in curlers. It is also the first Glenfiddich that shows signs of the old-age-statement personality, of barley sharpness (lost since the introduction of the 12-years-old) – thus suggesting some younger malts are involved to give bounce and vitality. This is balanced against a vague cough sweet bite, which may well come with age. I very much approve…and love!

TASTE: such a soft delivery you are not quite sure it has landed. Again, there are some contrasting signals, perhaps the quickest to reach the brain are from younger malts stoking up as much barley juiciness as they can; slowly a spice forms alongside a little mocha and against those older hybrid nuances…;

FINISH: heftier now, the spices caught up in a much more oak-induced vanilla thread;

BALANCE: "20 minds, one unexpected whisky" goes the blurb on the label. And in fairness, they have a point. It has been a long time since I encountered a distillery-produced malt this exceptionally well rounded and balanced. All 20 involved should take a bow; this is Glenfiddich as it should be…xxellent, in fact.

TASTING NOTES: Jim Murray's 2018 Whisky Bible.

RATINGS: 95.5 Points – Jim Murray's 2018 Whisky Bible.

Paul John / Unpeated Single Cask #1906
Paul John / Unpeated Single Cask #1906

£77.95
Country: Indian
Region: Indian
Age:
Strength: 55.9%
70cl

Summary: Country/Region: India/Goa. ABV: 55.9%. Unit: 70cl. Bottles Filled: 210 Nose: Sweet, sharp and dusty, with refreshing fruit – orange squash, pineapple rings and a little red apple skin. There's an oaky, bourbony sweetness underneath this – big cask and complexity. It has something I can't put my finger on, it might be that it's not Scottish or American… the wood is undeniably bourbony but it's more perfumed, with a different type of lemon and mango in the tropicality. Fruitier and creamier with water. I like it. Body: Hot, thick with toffee and spiced red apple, creamy and boozy like Irish coffee. Much better with water, it's so creamy and fruity it reminds me more of Amarula. Finish: Medium to long with chocolate toffees and black pepper. Reminds me of some recent single cask rums with water. This is tasty stuff, more complex than I first thought and has a lovely, creamy tropicality. Tasting Notes: Ben's Whisky Blog. Ratings: A+ Ben's Whisky Blog.

Following a rigorous judging process and a hard-fought battle, Glenfiddich has crowned Michael Cameron from Guy’s Restaurant & Bar, Glasgow the winner of its renowned Glenfiddich Malt Mastermind Competition, held at Voltaire bar, London.

Outperforming some of the best bartenders from across the UK, Michael Cameron won the competition with his bespoke Glenfiddich cocktail called ‘Ours is the Fury’, which showcased his originality, creativity and in-depth knowledge of the malt whisky category.

Michael Cameron from Guy's Restaurant & Bar, Glasgow

The 10 finalists battled it out by showcasing a signature serve using a choice of Glenfiddich 12 Year Old, Glenfiddich 15 Year Old Solera Vat or Glenfiddich 18 Year Old. Judging the contest were Glenfiddich UK brand ambassador, Mark Thomson, Director of Prestige and William Grant & Sons family member, Kirsten Grant Meikle, Editor of The Cocktail Lovers, Gary Sharpen and Ali Reynolds, 2014 Glenfiddich Malt Mastermind winner. The judges based their scores on innovation, taste, technique, performance, presentation and knowledge.

It’s heart-warming to be working with such talent. The respect, yet playful take on our brand was both exciting to judge and kept all the judges entertained, whilst making the winning decision extremely tough to call this year.
– Mark Thomson: UK Brand Ambassador for Glenfiddich

Once again we were blown away by the high standard of the competitors in this much anticipated contest. All of the finalists showcased wonderful examples of innovative whisky cocktails and we hope the competition inspires other bartenders to experiment with Glenfiddich, driving category interest and consumer recruitment.

Summary: Chivas Regal has joined forces once again with French fashion designer Christian Lacroix to create a lavish limited edition bottle.
Following the success of the award-winning Chivas 12 Year Old Magnum by Christian Lacroix last year, the two international luxury brands – flamboyant fashion designer Christian Lacroix and ultra premium Scotch whisky Chivas Regal – have extended their exclusive partnership, unveiling Chivas 18 Year Old by Christian Lacroix.
Lacroix has delivered a lavish and sophisticated design for the bottle that is perfectly coupled by the bespoke mirrored presentation box, resembling an ancient relic of regal nature. It is a true gem for collectors.
The whisky bottle, label, capsule and presentation box are embellished in a rich tapestry, embroidered and bejeweled, yet still instantly recognizable as the Chivas Regal brand.
The intricate and finely detailed jacquard fabric, interwoven with metallic threads and diamante stones, created by one of the designer’s regular suppliers, is hand applied to the capsule, bottle and box.
Again the bottle features the metallic decoration that was developed for the Chivas 12 Year Old Magnum, but this time the technology as been challenged even further in order to extend it over the curved shoulders of the bottle. These decorative effects, applied in the colour of the whisky onto a premium silver surface, use precision laser technology to deposit thin metal-film features onto the glass substrate.
Chivas Regal global brand director James Slack, said “Christian Lacroix has produced something magnificent in the new Chivas Regal 18 Year Old Limited Edition – a design that perfectly combines the luxury of haute couture and the craftsmanship of luxury Scotch whisky. What we are presented with, is not simply a bottle of whisky, but a crafted collector’s piece. We feel privileged to have worked with Christian Lacroix yet again and are proud to include such an extraordinary limited edition to the Chivas Regal range.”
Chivas Regal 18 Year Old by Christian Lacroix will be released as a limited edition with only 3,000 bottles available internationally and will be available from the travel retail price of US$495.00.
Precision laser technology is used to deposit thin metal-film features onto the glass substrate About Chivas Regal Chivas Brothers is the Scotch whisky and premium gin business of Pernod Ricard – the world’s co-leader in wine and spirits. Glenmorangie Ealanta is the fourth annual release in our award winning Private Edition range. Scots Gaelic for 'skilled and ingenious', Ealanta is a 19 Years Old Glenmorangie, fully matured in virgin American white oak casks with a provenance that stretches all the way to the mountains of Missouri and the Mark Twain National Forest. The porous oak wood, air-dried for over 2 years, but in this instance never seasoned with any other whisky, allows our precious spirit to extract maximum flavours as nature intended – producing a whisky of incredible taste and smoothness, with layers of vanilla and candied orange peel, interwoven with sugar coated almonds. Non chill-filtered
Aroma: Toffee, butterscotch, vanilla, and a curious hint of stewed fruits. Classic Glenmorangie mentholic top-note, interwoven with an unusual nuttiness, reminiscent of Brazil nuts in toffee.
Taste: Candied orange peel, sugar coated almonds, sweet vanilla and marzipan.
Finish: The taste goes on and on, finally giving way to some oak-derived spices – clove, ginger and a hint of aniseed.

Summary: Whilst we are proud to place the Laing family name on all the casks we bottle, there are some whiskies which are so remarkable that they deserve a little extra recognition. Hunter Laing's Old & Rare name signifies a rare single cask malt that has been bottled at the peak of its flavour. Whether it was the water, the wood, or even the location in the warehouse, circumstances have conspired to create a sublime drinking experience which once consumed, can never be repeated. Each bottling of Old & Rare has been matured to perfection, so due to the angels' share there are comparatively few examples to emerge from each cask. Presented in a highly distinctive squat bottle, each expression comes beautifully packaged in a specially crafted wooden box. The personal tasting notes of our expert "nose" are included to complement the views of each individual taster. It goes without saying that each cask remains unadulterated by excessive filtration or added caramel. Although each sip from an Old & Rare cask is an exquisite experience the pleasure must be tempered with a little sorrow, due to the fact that such a taste can never be exactly replicated again. Country/Region: Scotland/Islay. Unit: 70cl ABV: 56.5% Age: 35 Year Old Distilled/Bottled: Sept 78/Oct 2013 Tasting Notes: A full bodied nose of earthy peatiness with a touch of iodine and sea salt. Initially sweet on the palate with peat coming through. A definite honey note takes over, giving a smooth mouth feel. The finish is long and lingering with the peat fading slowly and the honey giving a pleasant after taste. Bottles filled from cask: 231

Summary: Here are the big flavours for the big fan of Classic Malts! These whiskies offer a broad canvas of powerful tastes ranging from the tang of the sea to the smoky and the peaty, making a distinctive Gift Pack to savour. The perfect gift for the person who enjoys malts that are uncompromising in their character.
TALISKER 10 YEAR OLD: A rich dried-fruit sweetness with clouds of smoke and strong barley-malt flavours, warming and intense. Peppery at the back of the mouth.
CRAGGANMORE 12 YEAR OLD: Nestling on the banks of the legendary salmon river, Cragganmoreª is, for many, the home of the definitive Speyside malt. Hugely complex, rich with layers of flavour and a whiff of smoke in the finish.
LAGAVULIN 16 YEAR OLD: A much sought-after single malt with the massive peat-smoke that's typical of southern Islay – but also offering a dryness that turns it into a truly interesting dram.
Lagavulin is an intensely flavoured, smoky-sweet single malt with seaweed flavours and a huge finish, aged in oak casks for at least sixteen years.

Contains CLASSIC notes of Ardbeg’s yesteryear on the nose as mellow, RICH, enticing ARDBEGGIAN FLAVOURS mingle with the dark chocolate, TREACLE and NUTTY oak.
Then, like standing on Ardbeg’s pier this morning, water brings forth briny SEA-SPRAY with a PINE RESIN lime top note for a remarkably FRESH BOUQUET.
On the palate, ROBUST PEAT smoke and SMOKY BACON meet creamy VANILLA with the hint of SHERRY CASKS, culminating in a taste of the future… an aftertaste that is NEVER-ENDING…

Summary: Colour: Deep amber. Aroma: Mellow, rich and enticing, with the unmistakable Ardbeggian combination of tar, soot and pine resin. This leads into dark chocolate, treacle toffee, coffee grinds and a distant, nutty/oaky note. A splash of water initiates a burst of fresh, briny sea-spray with a hint of salt, some linseed oil, and then some more of the classic Ardbeg pine resin/lime top note. A remarkably fresh bouquet for such a peaty whisky. Mouthfeel: Creamy and mouth-coating, slightly chewy. Taste: Intense, robust peat smoke, savoury smoky bacon, cinnamon and nutmeg, but also an incredible creamy, sweet vanilla/milk chocolate note, which soothes the palate. The never-ending aftertaste, sees more linseed oil (a hint of the sherry casks in the recipe), some creosote and tar, but understated, always gentle. Finish: here’s the dull bit Glendullan…the oak injects a little natural caramel but a few spices compensate; Balance: at last! A Glendullan how I normally see it in the blending lab, rather than when tasting bottling’s for the bible. Of late they have been pretty ordinary and hardly representative. This one is much truer to its known quality among pros, mainly due to this crisp malt being presented in decent oak for a change. 93 Points / Jim Murray's 2015 Whisky Bible. Bottler: Distillery Bottling.
Nose: This is clearly a wonderful nose: a lot of oak influence, but what a fragrant sexy kind of oak it is: Old, Hints of smoke and cigar humidor. Lots of sherry cask influence too. Fortified wine. Balsamic. Plum jam. Thick with a few mint leaves to create one heck of a complex nose. Heavenly.
Palate: Great mouthfeel. Very approachable. Dried fruit and smoky tobacco leaves. Orange bits , plums, peaches. Chocolate and bitter oak. A peppery tang too. Sweet and savoury. With a nice amount of oak.
Finish: Sweet orange marmalade with traces of smoke tobacco. Dry. Oak.
This is a superb dram, one of the better Karuizawas i had in the same league give or take as the other 1984 cask 3692 , (if we take out the 1964 one I’ve had, which is in its own league).
Tasting Notes: Whisky Israel.

Summary: The distillery was built in 1821 by Peter Brown, the factor of the Seafield Estates of Moray and Banffshire, and is named after Linkwood House, the family home. Brown?s son, William, carried on the business and rebuilt the distillery in the 1870s. One of the managers in the 1930s believed that absolutely everything in the distillery played its part in making the whisky what it was and he commanded that nothing – not even a cobweb – be removed. Had he lived long enough, he would have been dismayed in 1962 when the internal layout was radically changed and again in 1971 when a second distilling unit with two pairs of stills was built alongside the original Linkwood single-pair set-up. Country/Region: Scotland/Speyside. Bottler: Gordon & Macphail. Unit: 70cl ABV: 43% AROMA WITHOUT WATER: Burst of freshness – hay like notes, with a defined hint of well toasted malt. Some candied fruits emerge and a subtle Sherry influence lingers. Herbal with a touch of Rosemary. TASTE WITHOUT WATER: Mouth watering with a sweet and creamy edge. Some delicate hints of bonfire embers develop. Vanilla emerges and a hint of peppery warmth comes to the fore. AROMA WITH WATER: Toasted malt, with a Sherried sweetness. Hints of citrus notes (lemon zest) linger and a defined vanilla edge becomes apparent. TASTE WITH WATER: Initially sweet and warming with hints of mixed spices and a defined dark chocolate nose. A subtle touch of peat smoke lingers in the background.

Summary: To conclude a very rewarding year for me, professionally and personally, Hunter Laing & Co Ltd. is releasing two special new lines. The first of these is an Anniversary series of six casks, bottled to celebrate fifteen years of our flagship Old Malt Cask brand. Together with my sons Scott and Andrew, as well as our Master Blender Tom Aitken, I have selected casks from our maturing stocks which each do justice to the label's fifteen year milestone. These cask-strength Anniversary bottlings are presented in green glass with wooden gift boxes, and are finished in the original-style labels to pay homage to the earliest Old Malt Cask releases. Choosing these casks allowed me to reflect with pride on my last fifteen years as a single cask bottler and, in reviewing our stocks, to look forward with relish to the next fifteen years of the Old Malt Cask. Summary: The Macallan Reflexion represents the natural colour and beauty of The Macallan – a true reflexion of the foremost influence of first fill sherry seasoned oak casks.
This incredible whisky has been given its character both in colour and in taste in part by the maturation in smaller hogshead casks allowing a greater surface area of wood to interact with the whisky – in this case Spanish and American Oak casks were used in the maturation process.
The result is spectacular both in its rich colour and its its sublime complex taste.

Summary: For over 25 years Miltonduff Distillery produced 2 different Single Malt Whiskies. In 1955 due to the increased demand within Hiram Walker for different styles of whisky, a chemical engineer, Alistair Cunningham designed the Lomond Still. This type of still had a wide neck which housed three rectifying plates. These plates were used to vary the amount of reflux that took place within the still thus altering the spirit produced. The plates could either be filled with cool liquid or left dry. They could be rotated – the horizontal position would maximise reflux while the vertical position would reduce reflux. Due to increased demand for Ballantines Blend in the 1980s, the Mosstowie stills were altered to produce Miltonduff – the key component of Ballantines. Country/Region: Scotland/Speyside. Unit: 70cl ABV: 46% Distilled/Bottled: 1979/2012. Miscellaneous: 350 Bottles from Cask. AROMA WITHOUT WATER: Freshly washed wool and hessian. With hints of polished oak, beeswax and orange peel. Balcones / Baby Blue Corn Whisky / Batch #bb10-19
Balcones / Baby Blue Corn Whisky / Batch #bb10-19

£ 32.50
Country: American
Region: American
Age:
Strength: 46.%
70cl

Summary: Baby Blue is not only Texas’ first whisky, but so far we know the only blue corn whisky made anywhere. It pays homage to the American whisky tradition and while adding something we think is new and innovative.
Balcones Baby Blue is made from 100% roasted Hopi blue corn. The Hopi have used it as a staple for thousands of years. Their origin mythology describes how the Creator gave the first people corn of many types, and the Hopi received the blue corn. The Hopi use blue corn as a major food source, but it has spiritual significance for them as well. It is used in many ceremonies representing long life, wisdom, understanding, and the strength that comes through overcoming hardship.
While Hopi blue corn we use has an extremely interesting history, there is really only reason one we prefer it to all other corn for our whisky– taste. Its gorgeous midnight blue kernels are packed with a rich, roasty nuttiness that is truly exceptional. Unlike most of the blue corn on the market, Hopi blue corn is not just white dent corn which has been specially crossed to give it a blue tint. There is a lot of quality corn in this category, even some nice organic examples. But in a blind taste test, we could not tell the blue from the white corn. Hopi blue corn, however, has been grown with the same rich colour and flavour for thousands of years and is the only corn that could impart the rich character we require for our whisky.
Americans have innovated the use of corn in whisky since we first set foot on this continent. Baby Blue is not white lighting nor bourbon. It has the freshness and verve of a traditional corn whisky but with a refined complexity added by brief aging in small oak barrels. It has a round nuttiness and roasty overtones with a smooth finish. By legal definitions it could be labelled as a bourbon, but it is not essentially a bourbon in character. Bourbon is largely dominated by the flavours of the wood in the barrel; the new charred oak barrels give bourbon is defining and recognizable flavours, colour and aroma. Our brief aging in oak certainly contributes some of the recognizable oak notes and characteristic of bourbon, but these flavours do not dominate the rich corn flavours we have taken so much trouble to impart to the spirit. In any case, bourbon drinkers, as well as other whisky drinkers, will find plenty here to like.
Tasting Notes: butter, masa corn meal, marzipan/toasted almonds, smoked chillies, dark chocolate, fresh baked bread aroma Our unique aging process encourages a maturation that is surprisingly balanced and smooth for such a young whisky…young whisky with an old soul. Best enjoyed neat, with a little cool water, or even on ice.

Penderyn have announced the release of their popular Port Wood finish whisky in a single cask edition.   Only 231 bottles of the Port Wood-matured Single Cask will be produced, and because the bottles contain whisky from specially selected cask No. PT72, their unique characteristics will remain distinctive and unmatched. The whisky is bottled at a cask strength of 59% and is presented in a handmade American Oak box.  Each bottle is hand labelled, numbered and individually signed by our director, Sian Whitelock.  The bottle and box are finished in a cream stencilling.
Tasting Notes: The rich ruby red colour of this Penderyn port cask matured whisky does not disappoint! The initial nose is one of rich port and fresh red berry fruits. Soon spiciness and fresh oak chime in. The overall effect is both complex and intensely fruity. In the mouth this whisky is both very sweet and mouth drying at the same time while revealing a rich ruby port flavour. Smooth and easy to drink yet we recommend sipping it gently to enjoy its complexity and port flavour. Few port wood matured whiskies are as intense as this one. It leaves a long lingering finish rich in fruit, vanilla and milk chocolate. Savour the moment!

As this is Rugby World Cup year we are delighted to announce the launch of Penderyn’s fourth in the series 'Icons of Wales' called simply 'That Try'.
That Try recounts the highlights of the match that took place on 27th January 1973 in a packed Cardiff Arms Park, when the All Blacks’ wing Bryan Williams kicked a high ball into the Barbarians twenty-two, little did he think that less than thirty astonishing seconds later the Baa-Baas would score the greatest try ever seen. The edition, which features a specially commissioned drawing of Gareth on the black bottle, and comes in a handsome black and white box to match the famous Baa-baas kit, is a Peated Single Malt Whisky at 41% abv.
This memorable moment in sporting history has been recounted with the full approval, and by kind permission, of the Barbarian Football Club, whose famous colours and distinctive badge have been the hallmark for fair play and open rugby for the past 125 years. They have committed all royalty fees relating to this product to a charity of their choice.
Tasting Notes: Mild aromas of peat smoke, early morning at the rocky seaside and warm marmalade-on-toast all compete for our attention.  A very fresh and clean whisky, beautifully distilled gives pleasure from the very first sip.  In the mouth it begins with great sweetness before the smoky, slightly medicinal flavours descend.  Slight bitterness follows that leaves a long and lingering fresh taste in the mouth.

Glenfiddich Appoints New UK Brand Ambassador: Mark Thomson!

December 8, 2014 by Gary Leave a Comment

Glenfiddichs new UK Brand Ambassador, Mark Thomson

Glenfiddichs new UK Brand Ambassador, Mark Thomson

Family run brand Glenfiddich, is delighted to announce the appointment of a new UK Brand Ambassador, Mark Thomson.

Mark will be the face of the brand in the UK with immediate effect. Whilst his role will see him host consumer and trade events across the country, the majority of Mark’s time will be spent working with the on-trade in London.

Originally from Dundee and now living in London, Mark has worked in the drinks industry for 14 years. His past experience includes organising educational training programmes for on and off-trade outlets and hosting masterclasses and tasting events for a number of major whisky brands.

He has previously worked with Glenfiddich on projects like its Malt Mastermind bartender competition – where he was a judge in 2013 and 2014.

Mark said: “I am thrilled to be the latest addition to the Glenfiddich team. I have always loved the brand since my grandfather introduced me to it many years ago and it’s an honour to be joining the team.
There are exciting things going on in the whisky category at the moment, so it’s a great time to join Glenfiddich and help further cement its status in the UK. We have some very interesting new projects in the pipeline and I’m really looking forward to bringing these to life over the coming months.”

Sarah Harding, Senior Brand Manager for Glenfiddich, added: “Mark has a compelling enthusiasm and passion for Glenfiddich and for the Scotch malt category as a whole, which makes him the perfect candidate for this role.
He is well respected by his peers and we look forward to Mark using his expertise to engage both the trade and consumers with Glenfiddich and our exciting brand plans ahead.”

Glenfiddich Announces Malt Mastermind Finalists For 2014

Glenfiddich Announces Malt Mastermind Finalists For 2014

Glenfiddich Announces Malt Mastermind Finalists For 2014

Twelve finalists have been selected to compete in this year’s Malt Mastermind and the competition looks stronger than ever as bartenders from renowned venues including The Dorchester, Boisdale of Canary Wharf and The Devil’s Advocate in Edinburgh step up to compete for the title.

The competition, which is now in its fifth year, will test contestants on their creativity, whisky knowledge and passion for bartending. The finalists will create their signature serve using Glenfiddich 14 Year Old, Glenfiddich 15 Year Old or Glenfiddich 15 Year Old Distillery Edition, before taking part in an additional challenge, which will be revealed on the day.

Each contestant will be judged by an expert panel comprised of whisky expert and former Malt Mastermind judge, Mark Thomson, Kirsten Grant Meikle, a William Grant family member and Director of Prestige at the company, and Roman Foltan from the ‘World’s Best Bar’, The Artesian.

The twelve finalists including ‘wild card’ entry Jamie Ireland from the 2013 competition, will compete for the prestigious title at Callooh Callay on Monday 17th November. The bartender who is named Malt Mastermind will win a weekend stay in Dufftown including a VIP distillery experience, £1,000 and the prestigious Glenfiddich trophy.

Judge and whisky expert, Mark Thomson commented: “This is an exciting year to be involved with Malt Mastermind as we’ve had more entries than ever and the calibre of entrants is astoundingly high. The finalists’ serves reflect Glenfiddich’s ruthlessly premium values but demonstrate that whisky is evolving and the on-trade is evolving with it. The level of creativity demonstrated by the applicants has been overwhelming and choosing 12 finalists out of so many strong entries was genuinely difficult.

“Having Kirsten and Roman on board adds another interesting element to the 2014 competition and a lot more pressure for the bartenders as they will need to impress two of the industry’s biggest whisky experts. Let’s see what they’ve got!”

The twelve finalists are:

1. Jamie Ireland, Hotel Missoni, Edinburgh (Wildcard entry from 2013 competition)

2. Ernest Reid, Boisdale of Canary Wharf, London

3. Alex Palumbo, Plateau, London

4. Andrea Signanini, The Bar at The Dorchester, London

5. Dominic Willox, The Tippling House, Aberdeen

6. Henry Yates, The Boilermaker, Nottingham

7. Isabella Newman, The Earl, Bath

8. Steve Georgiou, Bourne and Hollingsworth, London

9. Keivan Nemati, The Zetter Townhouse, London

10. Alix Nardella, Dandelyan, London

11. Ali Reynolds, Hawksmoor Spitalfields, London

12. Michael Lynch, The Devil’s Advocate, Edinburgh

The Malt Mastermind 2014 winner will be announced on Tuesday 18th November 2014.

Glenfiddich Launches This Year’s Malt Mastermind Competition!

September 23, 2014 by Gary Leave a Comment

The Malt Mastermind competition

The Malt Mastermind competition

Glenfiddich has announced the launch of this year’s Malt Mastermind competition.

Returning for the fifth year, the competition calls on bartenders to showcase their flair and creativity by crafting a signature serve, this year using Glenfiddich 14 Year Old Rich Oak, Glenfiddich 15 Year Old or Glenfiddich 15 Year Old Distillery Edition.

For the first time, the competition will focus on the brand’s 15 Year Old variant.

The judging panel will also include two new judges this year.

Joining Mark Thomson (who helped judge last year’s Malt Mastermind) will be Kirsten Grant Meikle, a William Grant & Sons family member and Director of Prestige at the company and Roman Foltan from The Artesian in London.

The final will take place in London on 17th November 2014. All finalists will be required to showcase their serve at the final, as well as take part in an additional challenge to be revealed on the day.

The inaugural wild card entry will be Jamie Ireland from G&V Royal Mile Hotel who reached the final last year and impressed the judges with his creativity when making his ‘Scotsman, Frenchman and an Englishman’ serve.

Sarah Harding, Senior Brand Manager for Glenfiddich, said: “Year on year, the calibre of bartenders entering the competition has only improved with some exceptional serves and creativity showcased.
We are looking for someone who really understands the pioneering spirit of Glenfiddich and someone who has great knowledge of the category, the complex structure of the liquid and how flavours can be used in serves to really complement the whisky and create interesting drinks.

We are also excited to have Kirsten and Roman on board for the first time too. Both bring exceptional levels of knowledge and expertise to the table and we have no doubt, will inspire and enthuse our finalists.”

Bartenders wanting to enter the competition should visit www.glenfiddich.com/uk/explore/malt-mastermind.

They will be required to complete a short online entry form, including details of the serve they would create using the Glenfiddich 14 or 15 Year Old variants.
