The Dalmore Is Releasing A Refined New Single Malt – The Dalmore 45!

March 22, 2018 by Gary Leave a Comment

The Dalmore, is releasing a refined new single malt, The Dalmore 45

THE DALMORE LAUNCHES DISTINGUISHED 45 YEAR OLD

The Dalmore is releasing a refined new single malt, The Dalmore 45, to add to its exceptional collection.

The Dalmore 45 has been hand crafted by Master Distiller Richard Paterson

The Dalmore 45 has been hand crafted by Master Distiller Richard Paterson who has used some of the distillery’s rarest aged liquids to create what Richard himself has described as ‘flawless perfection’.

Initially matured in American white oak ex-bourbon casks, the liquid has then been transferred into two different Vintage Graham’s Port Colheita pipes dating from 1961 and 1963 to create layers of flavour, which are indulgent, smooth and complex.

For its final flourish the whisky was then married together in first fill American white oak ex-bourbon casks providing The Dalmore 45 with a truly unrivalled finish. The Dalmore’s use of multiple casks is a fitting example of the distillery’s commitment to exquisite cask curation, which focuses on sourcing and utilising only the best casks from the world’s finest bodegas and wineries.

Purposefully retained at 40% ABV, The Dalmore 45 features exquisite flavours of red berries, soft liquorice, crushed hazelnuts, bitter chocolate and Manuka honey. This is followed by the sweet flavours of sticky toffee pudding, Bramley apples and juicy dates to finish.

On the nose, it boasts a tantalising selection of aromas including Molasses, toffee, treacle cake, Sanguinello blood oranges, almond and Java cake.

By personally selecting the very finest American white oak ex-bourbon casks and Port Colheita Pipes from 1961 and 1963, I have been able to create a truly unique expression which is indulgent and smooth with a vibrant and lively flavour profile.

It takes time, dedication and passion to create an expression like The Dalmore 45 and age has gracefully matured this distinguished spirit to make it one of The Dalmore’s greatest aged spirits. This is a very special whisky, which I would describe as flawless perfection.
– Richard Paterson: Dalmore Master Distiller

Presented in a decanter designed by artisans at renowned French crystal house Baccarat, the hand-blown decanters are adorned with The Dalmore’s iconic 12 point Royal Stag emblem produced by Royal Warrant Holders Hamilton & Inches. This Royal Stag is a symbol of the brand’s promise to remain at the pinnacle of single malt.

Only 500 bottles of The Dalmore 45 will be released globally this year until 2020.

The nose (true to the distillery name) took us to a perfumed garden on a sunny day – herbs, roses, blossoms – delicate and gentle – someone was handing out fruit jelly sweets and someone somewhere was smoking a cigar.

The palate also evoked gardens – sophisticated afternoon tea-parties, with Lady Grey tea, oranges, walnuts, cinnamon toast, tropical fruits and milk chocolate on offer. With water, the nose turned more masculine again – fresh tobacco leaf, dry oak, eucalyptus, tangy citrus and Ruffle bars (dark chocolate, coconut and raspberry).

On the reduced palate medicinal notes, oak and spice underpinned the pomegranate, physalis, cranberry and Torrontés wine.

The whisky cascading into the glass was like a sunset over the Sahara dessert, burning the sky with a life-enhancing deep orange radiance. First nosing revealed an old artist’s studio with old easels and the smell of thick canvas and linseed and sandalwood oil. The blinds had been pulled shut to direct a single beam of sunlight through the darkness, illuminating a still life with stark contrasts.

It intensified the vibrant colours of the oranges, prunes and dried apricots that had been carefully positioned beside a dusty bottle of tawny port and a glass of sweet Tokaji wine. The palate was also dark yet sweet with chocolate covered brazil nuts, macadamia nuts, figs, prunes and old leather. Then muscovado sugar, all spice and a finish of rye whisky with dark, strong coffee.

After spending 25 years in an ex-oloroso butt this was transferred to a 1st fill pedro ximenez butt for the remainder of its maturation.

Maverick Drinks And Proof & Company Share Best Practice Ideas!

March 22, 2018 by Gary Leave a Comment

Maverick Drinks and Proof & Company

Maverick Drinks and Proof & Company, one of Asia Pacific’s leading independent spirits companies, are engaging in a world-first distributor exchange, with each sending senior management figures to the other for a full week to share best practice and discover what makes each of them successful.

The initiative is the first of its kind in the industry

The initiative is the first of its kind in the industry, and represents both Maverick Drinks and Proof & Company’s commitment to championing craft spirits.

We’ve long admired the work that Proof & Company do in Asia and how they’ve completely shaken up the market for craft spirits in that part of the world.

They’re very strong in some areas we have yet to develop, and we’ve managed to succeed in a more mature craft spirits market than Singapore, so I’m excited to see what we can learn from each other.
– Michael Vachon: head of brand development for Maverick Drinks

Maverick Drinks is an inspiration for our own work in a very different part of the world.

There is a great deal that we can learn from Michael and the team, especially in off-trade development and brand management. In an industry that is still dominated by large players and big brands, this exchange is a wonderful opportunity for two teams small in stature but big in passion to collaborate and learn from each other.
– Paul Gabie: Proof & Company co-founder and CEO

During their respective trips, Adam Dobson, global commercial manager of Maverick Drinks and a senior member of the Proof & Company team will immerse themselves in the local industry to gain a greater understanding of distributor-led initiatives that are breaking the mould and gaining traction with local partners.

In July 2017, Maverick Drinks launched its #ForwardDrinking campaign to highlight progressive initiatives in the industry and showcase some of their own. This distributor exchange is another step forward for knowledge sharing with a like-minded business in a different part of the world, helping to bring the global spirits community just a little bit closer.

This philosophy, coupled with the strength of the Maverick Drinks portfolio, played a substantial role in Maverick Drinks being named Spirits Distributor of the Year for the third time in four years at the 2017 International Wine & Spirit Competition.
