A Smith Bowman Distillery / Bowman Brothers Small Batch Bourbon

£65.00
Country: American
Region: American
Age:
Strength: 45.%
75cl

Summary: Country/Region: USA/Virginia. ABV: 45%. Unit: 75cl. John, Abraham, Joseph and Isaac Bowman were Virginia militia officers in the American Revolutionary War. In 1779, they led thirty pioneer families to Madison County, Kentucky and established Bowman's Station. Later, the brothers helped establish and settle Fayette County. They were legends, admired and respected by fellow settlers for their courage and bravery. This hand-crafted bourbon whiskey is a tribute to these four heroic Bowman Brothers. Tasting Notes: This small batch bourbon has been distilled three times using the finest corn, rye and malted barley. Our unique copper still produces a flavour like no other bourbon. After many years of aging in new charred oak barrels, this 90 proof Virginia bourbon whiskey will please even those with the most discerning tastes. The nose is warm like the Virginia summer. Its complex flavour has hints of vanilla and oak, while the finish is smooth and mellow like a quiet night on the front porch. Enjoy straight, over ice or with a splash of water. Ratings: Gold Medal / 2013 Sanfrancisco World Spirits Competition.

Booker's / Small Batch Bourbon
Booker's / Small Batch Bourbon

£62.50
Country: American
Region: American
Age:
Strength: 63.7%
70cl

Summary: Country/Region: USA. Unit: 70cl. ABV: 63.7% History: Jacob Boehm emigrated from Germany in 1760, changed his name to Beam and settled in the bluegrass lands of old Bourbon County which was then part of Virginia (it joined Kentucky later in 1792). Jacob sold his first barrel of whiskey in 1795. Since then seven generations of the Beam family have faithfully followed the time-honoured recipes and traditions. Jacob’s great grandson, James ''Jim'' Beam steered the family business through dramatic growth and then the tough times of Prohibition. After the repeal James (then aged 70) built a new distillery in Claremont, Kentucky and from this point on, the whiskey was called "Jim Beam Bourbon". Keeping up the great Beam family tradition, production is now overseen by Frederick Booker Noe III who is Jim’s great grandson. Production: Booker’s began as bottlings of Bourbon personally selected from barrels by Jim Beam’s grandson, the late distiller emeritus Booker Noe. Each barrel of Booker’s Bourbon was hand-selected by Noe and was aged at the sweet spot on the middle floor at the centre of the rick house for between 6 and 8 years, then bottled straight-from-the-barrel Bourbon as gifts to close friends and family. In 1992 he decided to make it available to Bourbon lovers worldwide; much to the joy of spirit connoisseurs everywhere. Booker’s Bourbon is one of very few Bourbons available today that is bottled straight-from-the-barrel, uncut and unfiltered, yielding an intense flavour and nose that is one of a kind. Just like the man who created it. Booker’s delivers a complex range of intense flavours from oak tannin and smoky vanilla. Add pure distilled water to tailor the taste and finish to your palate. Tasting note: Deep, rich, smokey amber. Big oak, vanilla, smoky charcoal, hints of mocha and coffee too. Delivers a complex range of intense flavours on the palate – fruits, oak tannin, smoky vanilla and tobacco.

Four Roses / Single Barrel Bourbon
Four Roses / Single Barrel Bourbon

£39.75
Country: American
Region: American
Age:
Strength: 50.%
70cl

Summary: Country/Region: USA. Unit: 70cl. ABV: 50% History: "In 1884, Paul Jones Jr, moved his thriving business to Louisville, Kentucky, where he opened an office in Whiskey Row. Four years later, he trademarked the name Four Roses, claiming a history of production and sales back to the 1860s. Four Roses is the only Bourbon Distillery that combines five proprietary yeast strains with two separate mash bills to produce ten distinct Bourbon Recipes, each with their own unique character, spiciness, and rich fruity flavours. Despite a history dating back to 1888, the iconic name, and its popularity, Four Roses stopped selling Bourbon in the US fr 40 years. The whiskey was so popular in Asia that the Japanese Kirin Brewing Company bought the business in 2002 and soon after reintroduced the brand to the US market." Production: Made in Kentucky, USA. Four Roses is the only Bourbon Distillery that combines five proprietary yeast strains with two separate mash bills to produce ten distinct Bourbon Recipes, each with their own unique character, spiciness, and rich fruity flavours. When it comes to aging, Four Roses don’t rush to get out and the extra time in the barrel not only adds a deeper flavour, but also allows the whiskey to become more mellow. Single Barrel is bottled from casks aged between 8 and 9 years old and made only using the higher of Four Roses two rye recipes (OB) and the yeast variant ''V'' which imparts light and delicate fruity flavours. Each bottle records the barrel number and the warehouse code of where that barrel was aged. Tasting note: A balanced, rich, fruity nose. Notes of spices and chocolate, toffee and vanilla. On the palate there are tart stone fruits, prunes, spices, morello cherries, cocoa and vanilla, finishes with notes of oak, chocolate and butterscotch.

Midleton / Very Rare 2014
Midleton / Very Rare 2014

£145.00
Country: Ireland
Region: Ireland
Age:
Strength: 40.%
70cl

Summary: Country: Ireland. ABV: 40%. Unit: 70cl. Irish Distillers Pernod Ricard has unveiled the 2014 edition of its prestigious Midleton Very Rare whiskey, the first to be hand selected by Master Distiller, Brian Nation, following his appointment in 2013. For every Midleton Very Rare release, the signature of the Master Distiller is included on the label to provide the ultimate guarantee of quality. Midleton Very Rare 2014 is the first to bear Nation’s signature on its label, continuing the tradition established by former Master Distiller Barry Crockett when he created the first Midleton Very Rare whiskey in 1984. Available from this month in specialist retailers, Midleton Very Rare 2014 is blended from only the finest Single Pot Still and grain whiskeys, which have been matured in specially-selected, ex-Bourbon American oak casks that have been lightly charred on the inside to impart a complex and elegant taste profile. The components of this exclusive blend have been aged for up to 22 years, making it a real collectors’ item. Anna Malmhake, Chairman and CEO at Irish Distillers Pernod Ricard, says: “It’s always exciting for us to release a new Midleton Very Rare expression as it really shows the outstanding quality that the Irish whiskey category has to offer, but this 2014 release is extra special as it heralds a new era for us as Brian Nation takes the reins from Barry Crockett at our Midleton Distillery. “Midleton Very Rare is a whiskey with real provenance, produced at the distillery in Midleton using only the finest ingredients and is rightfully regarded as the pinnacle of Irish whiskeys by collectors and connoisseurs worldwide, who cherish the nuances of each release. As Brian carries on the Midleton Very Rare legacy, we look forward to more discerning drinkers around the world discovering the quality and provenance that Irish whiskeys have to offer.” Master Distiller Brian Nation, added: “It is a real honour for me to continue the Midleton Very Rare legacy and to have my name on the label, where Barry’s signature once was. I’m very proud of the 2014 edition, as it offers real complexity with a full taste of sweet spice, vanilla, and cinnamon, which lingers before slowly giving way to notes of barley. I am confident that it will provide whiskey fans around the world with the interesting and enjoyable tasting experience that they have come to expect from Midleton Very Rare over the years – and I look forward to hearing what Barry thinks of it too!” Aroma: Rich, with vanilla sweetness on a layer of oak char from the influence of American white oak ex-Bourbon barrels. A soft floral note introduces the sweet spice of cinnamon, green pepper, and garden mint. Beautifully rounded with hints of green apple and banana. Taste: Full, with the sweet spice of vanilla, cinnamon, and liquorice and the flinty note of barley grains. Ripe fruit combines with the charred oak, adding to the complexity. Finish: Sweet spicy flavours that linger, fading slowly to leave the last word with the barley.

Macallan / 25 Year Old / Old Malt Cask 15th Anniversary

£475.00
Country: Scotland
Region: Speyside
Age:
Strength: 51.4%
70cl

Summary: To conclude a very rewarding year for me, professionally and personally, Hunter Laing & Co Ltd. is releasing two special new lines. The first of these is an Anniversary series of six casks, bottled to celebrate fifteen years of our flagship Old Malt Cask brand. Together with my sons Scott and Andrew, as well as our Master Blender Tom Aitken, I have selected casks from our maturing stocks which each do justice to the label's fifteen year milestone. These cask-strength Anniversary bottlings are presented in green glass with wooden gift boxes, and are finished in the original-style labels to pay homage to the earliest Old Malt Cask releases. Choosing these casks allowed me to reflect with pride on my last fifteen years as a single cask bottler and, in reviewing our stocks, to look forward with relish to the next fifteen years of the Old Malt Cask. Stuart Laing. Country/Region: Scotland/Speyside. Bottler: Hunter Laing. Unit: 70cl ABV: 51.4% Distilled/Bottled: 1988/2013. Miscellaneous: 285 bottles drawn from cask.

Glencadam / 10 Year Old Single Malt
Glencadam / 10 Year Old Single Malt

£31.25
Country: Scotland
Region: Highlands
Age:
Strength: 46.%
70cl

Summary: Country/Region: Scotland/Highlands. Age: 10 Year Old. Unit: 70cl ABV: 46% Inland from the east coast of Scotland is the ancient market town of Brechin which boasts two distilleries, Glencadam and North Port. The former was built in 1895 and extensively modernised in the 1950s. Most of its production goes for blending and used for Ballantines & Cream of the Barley. The distillery has no visitor centre but visitors are welcome by appointment. Nose: crystal clarity to the sharp, ultra fresh barley. Clean, uncluttered by excessive oak, the apparent lightness is deceptive; the intensity of the malt carries its own impressive weight and the citrus note compliments rather than thins. Enticing; Taste: immediately zingy and eye-watering salivating with a fabulous layering of sweet barley. Equally delicate oak chimes in to ensure a lightly spiced balance and a degree of attitude; Finish: longer than the early barley freshness would have you expecting, with soft oils ensuring an extended, tapering, malty edge to the gentle, clean oak; Balance: sophisticated, sensual with character and about as puckering elegant as single malt gets…and even thirst-quenching. My God: the guy who put this one together must be a genius, or something Ratings: 95 Points / Jim Murray's 2015 Whisky Bible. Tasting Notes: Jim Murray's 2015 Whisky Bible ©.

Glencadam / 14 Year Old Oloroso Cask Finish

Country: Scotland

Age:
Strength: 46.%

Summary: Country/Region: Scotland/Highlands. Age: 14 Year Old. Nose: pinch me: I’m dreaming. Oloroso exactly how it should be: classically clean with a dovetailing of dry and sweeter grape notes which are weighty, but not heavy enough to crush the lighter barley and vanillas from adding to the sumptuous and elegant mix; Taste: mouth-filling with firstly fat grape then a second flavour round of spices and custardy vanillas; Finish: much drier now with the accent on the barley but still that light spice persists, actually increasing in weight and effect as it goes along; Balance: what a total treat. Restores one’s faith in Oloroso whilst offering more than a glimpse of the most charming infusion of fruit imaginable. Ratings: 95 Points / Jim Murray's 2015 Whisky Bible.
