CASKNUMBER: 6177 NUMBER OF BOTTLES: 542 ABV: 59.5 % Vol. NOSE: Eager and aromatic, this assertive whisky almost jumps out of the glass. The nose opens with a basketful of fresh blackberries and Maraschino cherries, with lashings of milk chocolate. Next comes freshly ground coffee and stewed red apples. With time, beeswax on leather, pipe tobacco, allspice and savoury note of soy sauce all make their presence felt, with candied ginger. PALATE: Wonderfully mouth coating and rich from the outset. Blackberry and cherry jam, dried figs and plenty of milk chocolate with raisin and peanut. A little black coffee around the edges and a touch of umami, before those red apples come to the fore once more with maple syrup and cinnamon dancing in the mid-palate. FINISH: Long and decadent, the chocolate and red apples linger with a touch of malt. COMMENT: Beautifully well rounded, this can be enjoyed with or without water, and opens up beautifully with time. Pair with a medium-bodied cigar so as not to overwhelm its elegant and fruity top notes. |
