NOSE: Eager and aromatic, this assertive whisky almost jumps out of the glass. The nose opens with a basketful of fresh blackberries and Maraschino cherries, with lashings of milk chocolate. Next comes freshly ground coffee and stewed red apples. With time, beeswax on leather, pipe tobacco, allspice and savoury note of soy sauce all make their presence felt, with candied ginger.

PALATE: Wonderfully mouth coating and rich from the outset. Blackberry and cherry jam, dried figs and plenty of milk chocolate with raisin and peanut. A little black coffee around the edges and a touch of umami, before those red apples come to the fore once more with maple syrup and cinnamon dancing in the mid-palate.

FINISH: Long and decadent, the chocolate and red apples linger with a touch of malt.

COMMENT: Beautifully well rounded, this can be enjoyed with or without water, and opens up beautifully with time. Pair with a medium-bodied cigar so as not to overwhelm its elegant and fruity top notes.

The Balvenie Twenty-five – Aged 25 Years – 48% ABV non-chill filtered of natural colour:

Extraordinary depth; the perfect balance to create the most elegantly fruity expression. In a flawless marriage, Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE brings together individual casks to craft an incredibly intricate and balanced expression; exemplifying the art and skill of Traditional Oak Tun Marriages with liquid from European and American casks. A whisky of exceptional character, Twenty-Five hints at The Balvenie’s most sought-after flavours – bold vanilla oak, crystallised ginger and sweet runny honey.

Presented in a case of rich burgundy colour that graduates to a lighter ombré hue, the colours represent the evolution of flavours in the marrying process. Rings of white gold foil represent each year of maturation.

NOSE: Soft autumn fruits, runny honey, crystallised ginger and raw cane sugar. An underlying rich oakiness creates complexity and structure.

TASTE: Bold vanilla flavours with layers of toasted marshmallows, fresh fruit terrine and cinnamon infused apple tart.

FINISH: Exceptionally long-lasting sweetness.
