The Dumbarton 1988 and Invergordon 1978

TheWhiskyBarrel.com has released two fantastic exclusive bottlings. Both have been carefully selected by The Whisky Barrel under the guidance of Hunter Laing & Company Ltd.

Dumbarton 30 Year Old 1988 Sovereign Exclusive

The Dumbarton 30 Year Old 1988 Exclusive was bottled at cask strength by Hunter Laing in March 2018. Aged in a bourbon barrel, this Dumbarton is a light gold whisky with a sweet nose of tropical fruits, vanilla and salted caramel.

Dumbarton Distillery was a single grain distillery built in Dumbartonshire in the 1930s, at which time it was the largest in Scotland. Dumbarton closed in 2002 and has since been demolished, making The Whisky Barrel’s exclusive Dumbarton 30 Year Old 1988 Sovereign a very special addition to any collection.

Invergordon 40 Year Old 1978 Sovereign Exclusive

The Invergordon 40 Year Old 1978 Exclusive was bottle at cask strength, again by Hunter Laing in March 2018. It too was aged in a bourbon barrel but this whisky has a burnished gold look to it and a rich nose of blackberries, apples and toffee.

Invergordon Distillery is the most northerly of Scotland’s grain distilleries and was established in 1959. It is a favourite of blenders so it is very interesting to see a single grain Scotch come out; definitely something special.

Both of these exclusives would make perfect birthday or anniversary gifts and both are packed full of rich flavour.

It is well known that a 1993 vintage GlenDronach has become something of a rarity. Casks laid down in this year are never short of praise. TheWhiskyBarrel.com selected this 1993 vintage amongst others as it clearly stood out as a perfect example of the full bodied Highland single malt.

The GlenDronach Distillery sits in the valley of Forgue, deep in the East Highland hills near Aberdeenshire. It is named after the source of its water; the Dronac burn. Founded in 1826, the distillery was one of the first licensed distilleries. Throughout the years, GlenDronach has maintained its true Highland style that stands it out from other malts. Renowned as the masters of sherry cask maturation, these Highland whiskies are well recognised by their deep colour and rich flavours.

GlenDronach has a very strong reputation in the whisky world. The Highland distillery under the ownership of Brown-Forman has continued to release highly prized single cask scotch. The Whisky Barrel is, therefore, delighted to have 557 bottles of this exclusive GlenDronach 1993 vintage cask #658.

Isle of Islay 10 Year Old is a rare find to say the least!

The Isle of Islay, located off the west coast of Scotland, is the southernmost of the Inner Hebrides islands and known as ‘The Queen of the Hebrides’. The island’s capital is Bowmore and the main port is Port Ellen.

Islay is perhaps best known for its whisky, with eight distilleries each producing their own distinctive single malts. The three distilleries along the south eastern coast of the island, Laphroaig, Ardbeg and Lagavulin, all have a prominent peaty flavour; a true characteristic of Islay malts.

Rumour has it that the art of distillation was first introduced to Islay by the Irish monks living there in the early fourteenth century!

Isle of Islay 10 Year Old is a rare find to say the least. The refill hogshead cask yielded just 285 bottles.

Distilled at one of Islay’s south eastern distilleries, this malt will be of interest to collectors and connoisseurs alike. It has the distinct peaty flavour that is unique to Islay whiskies. A golden malt with a beautifully balanced scent of fresh hay and peat, as well as a slight sweetness. A truly special malt from one of the most famous distilleries in Scotland.

Colour: Deep rusty gold.
Nose: Scrumptious combination of peat and sherry notes.

Finish: The finish is long lasting, warming and slightly fruity, with strong hints of that famous peat.
