Best International Brand Ambassador – Chivas Regal’s Max Warner!

Best International Brand Ambassador – Chivas Regal’s Max Warner [photo credit – Doron Gild]

Max Warner, Global Brand Ambassador for Chivas Regal, has been named the Best International Brand Ambassador at the 10th annual Spirited Awards, held at Tales of the Cocktail. The award is an industry badge of honour, recognised as one of the most prestigious prizes in the spirits world, judged by some of the cocktail industry’s most respected figureheads

Warner accepted the award from Julie Reiner and Ivy Mix (2015 Winners of Best International Bar Mentor and Best American Bartender respectively) in New Orleans on Saturday night, winning in a competitive category that included Dean Callan of Monkey Shoulder, Camille Vidal of St-Germain and Ian Burrell, Global Rum Ambassador.

The Best International Brand Ambassador accolade is testament to Warner’s continued dedication to creating innovative new ways for Chivas Regal to be experienced and enjoyed globally, having represented the brand across the world for 12 years through initiatives such as the Chivas Masters cocktail competition.

With the 2016 Global Final being held last month in Shanghai, Warner was instrumental in making this year’s event the biggest and most impactful yet for Chivas Regal. His personal contribution ranged from careful selection of industry recognised judges, the creative evolution of the Chivas Masters platform – which now brings together finalists from different cultures and countries to ‘win the right way’ as a team – and working closely with the team in Pernod Ricard China to curate and host the finalists to ensure that it was a truly exceptional occasion for all.

Winning the title of Best International Brand Ambassador at the Spirited Awards is a huge honour for me and will definitely go down as one of my career highlights. The Tales of the Cocktail festival holds a very special place in my heart; I have visited every year for the past 7 years with Chivas Regal with the aim to increase the voice of this exceptional Scotch to the industry, which always proves to be one of the best moments in the year.

The Scotch whisky category needs to be recognised more and I am so proud to be able to stand tall on the International stage in the country which Chivas Regal was launched being acknowledged amongst such a talented pool of ambassadors alongside so many industry icons, an occasion I will never forget.

That Boutique-y Whisky Company Release Single Grain Starring Black Rock Whisky Bar and a Secret Cocktail Voucher!

Multi-award-winning independent bottler That Boutique-y Whisky Company (TBWC) release a 52 year old single grain Scotch whisky featuring Black Rock’s Tristan Stephenson and Thomas Aske plus a voucher for a secret off-menu cocktail at this top London whisky bar!

A voucher can also be found on the back of each bottle!

A voucher can also be found on the back of each bottle!

That Boutique-y Whisky Company have released a stunning 52 year old single grain whisky from the sadly now-closed Carsebridge distillery (RRP £231.95).

Known for their fun graphic-novel style labels, as well as their award-winning whiskies, TBWC’s latest release features world-class bartenders, mixologists and whisky enthusiasts Tristan Stephenson and Thomas Aske.

The duo are best known as the folk behind top London cocktail bars such as the Worship Street Whistling Shop and Purl, but their latest exciting project is an innovative whisky bar in Shoreditch named Black Rock. Their mission is to demystify whisky and make it simple and fun for all, something which is also fundamental to everything TBWC do.

The label depicts the Black Rock duo sat at the bar’s extraordinary 18 foot long European oak tree trunk table, complete with two 17 litre channels for ageing whiskies and cocktails as well as taps for serving them!

A voucher can also be found on the back of each bottle allowing you to exchange it (once empty) at Black Rock for a free secret off-menu cocktail…

That Boutique-y Whisky Company’s range of whiskies is available to buy from Master of Malt

Sampling Teeling’s The Revival Volume II – An Independent Spirit!

July 7, 2016 by Gary Leave a Comment

The Revival Volume II

The Revival Volume II

Teeling Whiskey has sent me a sample of their newly released The Revival Volume II .

The Revival Volume II & Tasting Glass!

The Revival Volume II & Tasting Glass!

This second bottling of “The Revival”, a limited edition Single Malt has been produced to mark the one year anniversary of its new distillery, the first in Dublin for over 125 years.

The Revival Volume II bottling consists of 13 Year Old Single Malt Irish whiskey distilled in 2002 and matured initially in ex-Bourbon casks. By finishing in 250 litre ex-Calvados French apple brandy casks an extra apple and pear character unique to Irish whiskey is imparted. Further by bottling at 46% ABV with no chill filtration completes an Irish whiskey of true character.

The one year anniversary of our new distillery is a major milestone in the history of Teeling Whiskey. Due to the overwhelming response to our first Revival release to mark our opening we decided to release a second celebratory bottling — The Revival Vol II.

We have again selected a very special whiskey to celebrate the Revival of distilling in Dublin with the first ever Calvados aged Irish whiskey. Our second bottling will be limited to only 10,000 bottles and sold both through our distillery as well as our domestic and international distributors.
– Jack Teeling: Founder and Managing Director of the Teeling Whiskey Company

The Revival Vol II 13 Year Old will retail for approximately £85.00.

So, what did I think? Here are my tasting notes …

Tasting Notes – Teeling Whiskey The Revival (46%)

Nose: Crisp green apples and tinned pears. Thick caramel infused with vanilla. Subtle aromas of wood.

Palate: Thick, pleasant mouthfeel. Rich fudge and caramel, apple and soaked christmas cake fruits.

Finish: Dry, spicy, peppery combined with sherbet sweetness that develops after a while. Fruity and pleasantly long.

Overall: A powerful alcohol hit to this dram but nicely tempered with peppery sweetness. Extremely enjoyable and all housed in the cutest whiskey miniature ever. A pleasure to add to my collection!

Many thanks to Teeling Whiskey (@TeelingWhiskey) for sending the samples and without whom!

  • Edencroft Fine Wine & Spirit Specialists

Angels’ Nectar toasts shortlist success again!

I sampled it here and enjoyed it immensely!

The Highlands & Islands Food & Drink Awards are now in their 12th year and celebrate the best of food and drink from across the Highlands and Islands and the Cairngorms National Park.

To be shortlisted for the second year running is a fantastic endorsement from the Highlands and Islands Food and Drink Awards for our fledgling whisky business.

Indicative of the interest in our new Rich Peat Edition of Angels’ Nectar, amongst others we have shipped export orders to the Netherlands, Germany, South Korea and Sweden.
– Robert Ransom: Highfern founder

Inspired by the Angels’ share, the traditional name given to the whisky lost to evaporation during the maturation of Scotch Whisky, the Rich Peat Edition of Angels’ Nectar Blended Malt Scotch Whisky has been created from a selection of Highland malt whiskies, and oozes a welcoming peat smoke, with hints of toffee apple and dark chocolate. With its innovative ‘Angels within Angel’ graphic design (which won the 2015 Scottish Creative Award for Illustration), Angels’ Nectar presents a much-loved story from whisky folklore in a contemporary fashion.

Judging for the awards took place at the Kingsmills Hotel in Inverness with a panel of judges examining and tasting the entries. The judges included representatives from Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Scotland Food & Drink, and the current Ambassadors of the Year, Jill and Callum Clark of Connage Highland Dairy.

The winners will be announced on Friday 21st of October at a glittering awards ceremony at the Kingsmills Hotel, hosted by comedian and broadcaster, Fred MacAulay.
