Tasting Notes – Sampling The Teeling “The Revival” Vol V!

May 2, 2018 by Gary Leave a Comment

The fifth and final bottling of “The Revival”

Teeling Whiskey Unveils Final Release of The Revival Single Malt

Teeling Whiskey has unveiled the fifth and final bottling of “The Revival”, a limited edition, award winning, commemorative Single Malt.

“The Revival” is Limited to just 15,000 bottles

The Revival Volume V is another unique addition to The Revival Series, which was originally crafted to celebrate the opening of the Teeling Whiskey Distillery and with that, the revival of the tradition of distilling in Dublin.

The final bottling of The Revival precedes the launch of the first new Dublin distilled whiskey for over 40 years. Teeling Whiskey’s Single Pot Still Irish whiskey, fully distilled in the Teeling Whiskey Distillery in Dublin’s Newmarket, will be released later this year.

The Revival Vol. V joins Teeling Whiskey’s range of award winning Irish whiskeys, which have collected over 175 international awards over the last five years. The fifth bottling of The Revival consists of 12-Year-Old Single Malt that was aged initially in ex-Bourbon barrels before being finished in a combination of Cognac and Brandy barrels, imparting distinct hints of toasted almonds and freshly pressed grapes.

Limited to just 15,000 bottles, the resulting Single Malt is then bottled at 46% with no chill filtration, a signature of all Teeling Whiskeys.

We are delighted to launch the last release in our award-winning Revival Series, just a few months before our first Irish whiskey will come of age from our Dublin distillery.

The Revival Series was originally launched to celebrate the rebirth of distilling in Dublin, so the timing is fitting to end the series now, as we enter a period of renaissance for the capital with the launch of the first Dublin distilled Irish whiskey for over 40 years.

We are also very excited to announce plans for the release of a very special celebratory Single Pot Still bottling of one of our very first casks of new whiskey scheduled for August. To celebrate the launch, we will auction 100 of the very first bottles of our new whiskey, with all profits going back to local Dublin 8 charities. This will be followed by the commercial release of the Teeling Whiskey Single Pot Still in November.
– Jack Teeling: Founder and Managing Director of Teeling Whiskey

The first 100 bottles will be auctioned online with the balance to be sold in the distillery itself. One of the core founding principles of the company was to give back to the local community that has welcomed Teeling Whiskey so well over the last 3 years, so they are incredibly proud to be giving back all profits from this first release to a selection of local Dublin 8 based charities.

The Revival Vol V 12 Year Old will retail for €140.00 The product will be available in Ireland at the Teeling Whiskey Distillery in Newmarket, Dublin Airport, The Celtic Whiskey Stop, all good independent off licences before being launched into international markets such as the UK, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Denmark and Italy.

To find out more information on the Teeling Whiskey and the Teeling Whiskey Distillery visit teelingwhiskey.com or visit Teeling Whiskey on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.

The Revival Vol V 12 Year Old will retail for €140.00

I was lucky enough to receive a sample of the Vol V from Teeling Whiskey (Many thanks!), so what did I think? Here are my tasting notes …

Tasting Notes – Teeling “The Revival” Vol V (46%)

Colour: Pale honeyed colour.

Nose: Red apples, tropical fruit and caramel. A refreshing tang of citrus comes a little later.

Palate: Creamy honey, tropical fruit, caramel and some punchy spice!

Finish: Dry wood finish with strong spicy overtones that are held in check by honey caramel. There’s also slight hints of lemon.

Overall: There’s a lot to appreciate in this dram and the flavours develop very nicely over time.
It is an excellent dram for those searching for great flavours without being too intense in either spiciness or being over sweet.

Go for it and “Revive” those tastebuds!

Sampling Teeling’s The Revival Volume III!

April 13, 2017 by Gary Leave a Comment

The Revival Vol. III joins Teeling Whiskey’s range of award winning Irish whiskeys

Teeling Whiskey Unveils Third Bottling of The Revival Single Malt

Teeling Whiskey, Ireland’s leading independent Irish whiskey producer, is proud to unveil the third bottling of “The Revival”, a limited edition commemorative Single Malt. The Revival Volume III is being released to celebrate the 18-month anniversary of the opening of the Teeling Whiskey Distillery and will be limited to only 10,000 bottles.

The original Revival bottling was produced in 2015 to mark the opening of the Teeling Whiskey Distillery, the first new distillery in Dublin in over 125 years. The third edition of this bottling consists of a 14-Year-Old Single Malt Irish whiskey distilled in 2002, initially matured in ex-Bourbon casks before being given further maturation in 350 litre ex-Pineau Des Charentes casks to impart an extra pressed grape and dried fruit flavour unique to Irish whiskey. Further, the Revival Vol. III has been bottled at 46% ABV with no chill filtration to complete an Irish whiskey of true character.

The Revival Vol. III joins Teeling Whiskey’s range of award winning Irish whiskeys which have collected over 100 international awards over the past four years. The maturation from the ex-Pineau Des Charentes casks creates a unique palette pteasing taste profile, reminiscent of dried fruit and toffee pineapple rounded off with a toasted almond and dark chocolate bitterness that’s balanced perfectly with a lingering soft sweetness. A signature bouquet of honey and hazelnuts flavours tops off the dark chocolate undertones of this limited edition Single Malt.

It is hard to believe we are just 18 months away from having Irish whiskey distilled from our new distillery in Dublin and to honour this half way point we have decided to release something very unique to mark the occasion with the first ever Pineau des Charentes finished Irish whiskey.

Our third Revival release will be limited to only 10,000 bottles and sold both through our distillery as well as our domestic and international distributors.
– Jack Teeling: Founder and Managing Director of the Teeling Whiskey Company

Pineau des Charentes is a regional French aperitif, made in the southwestern regions of Charente, Charente-Maritime and, to a much lesser extent, Dordogne in western France. It is a fortified wine made from either fresh, unfermented grape juice or a blend of lightly fermented grape must, to which a Cognac eau-de-vie is added and then matured in oak barrels.

The Revival Vol III 14-Year-Old will retail for approximately £120.00 (GBP£110.00). The product will be available in Ireland through the Teeling Distillery in Newmarket Dublin 8, Dublin Airport, the Celtic Whiskey Stop and all good independent off licences and will then be rolled out to international markets such as the UK, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Denmark and Italy.

The Revival Vol III 14 Year Old will retail for approximately £110.00.

Teeling Whiskey has very kindly sent me a sample. So, what did I think? Here are my tasting notes …

Tasting Notes – Teeling Whiskey The Revival III (46%)

Nose: Crisp green apples and pears. Caramel infused with rich vanilla.

Palate: Creamy mouthfeel. Caramel and cooked apple.

Finish: Quite dry, salty with pleasantly subtle peppery spices that grow in intensity. A Long finish.

Overall: Another powerful alcohol hit, much akin to the I & II, but appreciably smoother. Not my favourite of the trio but a worthy dram all the same.

Many thanks to Teeling Whiskey (@TeelingWhiskey) for sending the sample!

December 13, 2016 by Gary Leave a Comment

Limited to just 5,000 bottles …

Teeling Whiskey have kindly sent me a sample of their new Teeling Whiskey Vintage Reserve 24 Year Old – now that’s what I call an early Christmas Present!

Awarded World’s Best Irish Single Malt, 2016 at the World Whiskies Awards

Limited to just 5,000 bottles, the Teeling Whiskey Company has produced a special whiskey release containing some of the oldest Irish Single Malt in the world.

Matured initially in Bourbon casks before being given an additional maturation in ex-Sauternes wine barrels, it is bottled at 46% with no chill filtration thus retaining all the qualities of a whiskey of true character.

Teeling Whiskey Vintage Reserve 24 Year Old was awarded World’s Best Irish Single Malt, 2016 at the World Whiskies Awards.

My Tasting Notes – Teeling Whiskey Vintage Reserve 24 Year Old (46%)

Nose: Thick honey, sticky, rich fig jam, giving way to salty caramel popcorn. All very luscious and inviting! But take your time and hold back – the nose on this develops to be a joy in itself!

Palate: Satisfying mouthfeel. Very smooth. Sweet, figgy jam, honeyed caramel with a slight, sweet, saltiness thrown in.

Finish: A long smooth finish with a lovely salty sweetness touched with a hint of spice.

Overall: An exceptional dram – so morish! Nothing harsh about this one at all – a fine, smooth balance of fruity sweetness with just a hint of spiciness – a taste bud package to die for!

The Revival Volume II

The Revival Volume II

Teeling Whiskey has sent me a sample of their newly released The Revival Volume II .

The Revival Volume II & Tasting Glass!

The Revival Volume II & Tasting Glass!

This second bottling of “The Revival”, a limited edition Single Malt has been produced to mark the one year anniversary of its new distillery, the first in Dublin for over 125 years.

The Revival Volume II bottling consists of 13 Year Old Single Malt Irish whiskey distilled in 2002 and matured initially in ex-Bourbon casks. By finishing in 250 litre ex-Calvados French apple brandy casks an extra apple and pear character unique to Irish whiskey is imparted. Further by bottling at 46% ABV with no chill filtration completes an Irish whiskey of true character.

The one year anniversary of our new distillery is a major milestone in the history of Teeling Whiskey. Due to the overwhelming response to our first Revival release to mark our opening we decided to release a second celebratory bottling — The Revival Vol II.

We have again selected a very special whiskey to celebrate the Revival of distilling in Dublin with the first ever Calvados aged Irish whiskey. Our second bottling will be limited to only 10,000 bottles and sold both through our distillery as well as our domestic and international distributors.
– Jack Teeling: Founder and Managing Director of the Teeling Whiskey Company

The Revival Vol II 13 Year Old will retail for approximately £85.00.

So, what did I think? Here are my tasting notes …

Tasting Notes – Teeling Whiskey The Revival (46%)

Nose: Crisp green apples and tinned pears. Thick caramel infused with vanilla. Subtle aromas of wood.

Palate: Thick, pleasant mouthfeel. Rich fudge and caramel, apple and soaked christmas cake fruits.

Finish: Dry, spicy, peppery combined with sherbet sweetness that develops after a while. Fruity and pleasantly long.

Overall: A powerful alcohol hit to this dram but nicely tempered with peppery sweetness. Extremely enjoyable and all housed in the cutest whiskey miniature ever. A pleasure to add to my collection!

The Teeling “Revival” Twitter Tasting – A Glorious Taste Of Two Halves!

November 16, 2015 by Gary Leave a Comment

“The Revival” - limited to only 10,000 bottles!

“The Revival” – limited to only 10,000 bottles!

The Teeling “Revival” Twitter Tasting made a gloomy Monday a lot brighter this week as Steve from The Whisky Wire took us through another new release, this time from the well renowned Teeling Whiskey Distillery.

The Teeling “Revival” is a commemorative bottling to mark the opening of its new distillery in Dublin. Released as a limited edition 15 Year Old Single Malt, it marks the opening of their new distillery, the first in Dublin for over 125 years.

The Revival 15 Year Old Single Malt Irish whiskey was distilled in 1999, being matured exclusively in ex-Rum casks and bottled at 46% with no chill filtration to create a unique Irish whiskey taste experience.

This new release is part of an updated Teeling Vintage Reserve Collection which is made up of small, limited batch releases of very old and rare Irish Single Malt whiskeys.

There will be three different bottlings ranging in age and price points. The Revival being the first followed by a 24 and 33 year old bottling of Irish Single Malt whiskey.

The opening of our new distillery was a major milestone in the history of Teeling Whiskey. It took three years of planning, hard work and significant capital investment, but now Teeling Whiskey is finally home.
– Jack Teeling: Teeling Whiskey Company founder

The Revival 15 Year Old is limited to only 10,000 bottles and will retail for around £85.00.

Available in Ireland through the Teeling Distillery Gift Shop in Newmarket Dublin 8, Dublin Airport and the Celtic Whiskey Stop, it will then be rolled out to international markets such as the UK, France, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Italy and Australia.

If you want to catch up on what all the tasters had to say you can view the tweets by searching for the hash tag #TeelingWhiskey on Twitter.

Here are my thoughts …

Tasting Notes – Teeling ‘The Revival’ 15 Year Old Single Malt Whiskey (46%)

Nose: Some nice woody notes right there at the beginning, then green apples, a touch of vanilla and caramel with sugary tropical fruits – all very inviting! Cereal notes come thru right at the end.

Palate: Rich, sweet, tropical fruits: pineapple, mango et al. Serious bit of pepper & spice there also: warming my cockles etc!

Finish: Grapefruit mixed in with vanilla and syrup – all yummy! ‘Tis a short finish but a hot n’ spicy, peppery one – with a touch of fruity sweetness to cool the journey 🙂

Overall: A dram of two distinct halves: So sweet with a little spice that gives way to very spicy tempered with some sweetness.

A very pleasant way to spoil one’s tastebuds on a Monday eve!

Many thanks to Steve at The Whisky Wire (@TheWhiskyWire) for a great dram evening and the team at Teeling (@TeelingWhiskey) for sending the samples and without whom!

Teeling - 21 Year Old Silver Reserve Single Malt Irish Whiskey

Teeling – 21 Year Old Silver Reserve Single Malt Irish Whiskey
Country: Irish   Region: Irish
Age: 21 Year Old   Strength: 46%
Summary: The Teeling Whiskey Company, Irelands leading independent Irish whiskey Company, has released the first bottling from its new Vintage Reserve Collection, the Silver Reserve 21 Year Old Single Malt Irish whiskey.
This Silver Reserve bottling consists of 21 Year Old Single Malt Irish whiskey distilled in 1991 and matured firstly in Bourbon casks then allowed to marry in Sauterne wine casks to provide a truly unique Irish whiskey taste experience. This small batch bottling, limited to only 5,000 bottles, is the first ever Irish whiskey to be finished in Sauterne wine casks. Each cask was hand selected and chosen for their distinctive flavour profile.
The Teeling Vintage Reserve Collection will consist of handcrafted small batch releases of very rare and old Irish Single Malt whiskeys. Containing some of the oldest Single Malt Irish whiskey ever bottled, the Vintage Reserve Collection allows you to savour and appreciate Irish whiskey at its finest. The Vintage Reserve Collection will be individually hand bottled in exclusive decanters ensuring the finest presentation and care is given to such rare whiskey offerings.
The Vintage Reserve Collection will consist of 3 different bottlings ranging in age and price points the first release being the 21 Year Old which will be followed by a 25 Year Old and a 30 Year Old bottling of Irish Single Malt whiskey. Each bottling will have its own unique finishing and marrying methods to create very distinct taste experiences not currently available within the Irish whiskey category.
Jack Teeling, founder of the Teeling Whiskey Company, commented: “We are proud to be able to release some of the oldest ever bottlings of Irish Single Malt with our Vintage Reserve Collection. These offerings are central to our goal to play the lead role in bringing an independent voice back to the Irish whiskey category and will help drive diversity in the category by introducing interesting and unique small batch bottlings of Irish whiskey. Teelings Silver Reserve Single Malt is a celebration of everything good about Irish whiskey – from its robust nose to its fully rounded and balanced array of flavours. There is nothing else like it in the market.”

Teeling - Teeling Irish Blended Whiskey

Teeling – Teeling Irish Blended Whiskey
Country: Irish   Region: Irish
Age: No Age Statement.   Strength: 46%
Summary: Since 1782 the Teeling family have been crafting Irish Whiskey. The Teelings are renowned for their vision in doing things differently and their Whiskeys embody this entrepreneurial spirit. This small batch bottling consists of hand selected casks which are given further maturation in ex-Flor de Cana Rum barrels imparting an extra sweet and smooth flavour unique to Irish Whiskey. By bottling at 46% with no chill filtration completes an Irish Whiskey of true character. Teeling Whiskey – Dare to be Different.
Nose: An inviting nose where vanilla and spice dances with bright sweet notes of Rum.
Taste: While being very approachable the influence of the rum cask and higher percentage alcohol creates a unique smooth, sweet, slightly woody marriage that sparkles on the tongue.
Finish: Slightly moorish, sweet spice finish complimented by woody undertones.

Port Ellen - 32 Year Old - Old & Rare Edition

Port Ellen – 32 Year Old – Old & Rare Edition
Country: Scotland   Region: Islay
Age: 32 Year Old   Strength: 54.80%
Summary: Douglas Laing & Co. proudly offer this fine example of the Distillers Art as a special selection from their oldest stocks of whisky. No water is added to reduce its strength, as the Angels share has already taken care of that. No caramel, colouring is added, so that you can see its pure and natural colour. They have chosen to bottle this malt without chill-filtration in the old fashioned and traditional style. By so doing, they leave in the entire Distillers preferred qualities apparent on the nose, palate and finish – self evident when you remove the cork. As you can see on the label, this is one bottle of a very restricted offering, which once consumed, cannot ever be repeated. Opens richly spiced, carrying a fresh leather character – still surprisingly peaty for its age with an earthy, smoked grist character. The palate is initially sweetly peated and runs to a smoke, toffee and spiced character – each pushing for more attention until they harmoniously join in the long finish. Now with salty liquorice – soot and a charcoal ashy quality.
