BRENT ELLIOTT SHOWCASES CULT BOURBON BRAND IN THE UK

September 30, 2016 by Gary Leave a Comment

Four Roses Master Distiller, Brent Elliott

Four Roses Master Distiller, Brent Elliott

Four Roses Master Distiller, Brent Elliott, is visiting the UK for the first time to mark his first anniversary in the role of heading up the distilling team at the cult bourbon brand.

Presenting the multi award-winning Four Roses range, Brent will unveil the Four Roses Limited Edition Small Batch 2016 at Harrods during the first week of October. An exclusive press tasting will take place at The Soho Whisky Club, followed by a series of trade masterclasses in London, Manchester and finally Scotland.

Brent, who has worked with the company for 10 years, most recently as Director of Quality, took over the role and responsibility of crafting quality Bourbon from legend Jim Rutledge, who retired from his position in 2015.

My visit to the UK is long overdue and I’m really looking forward to hosting these events around London, Manchester and Scotland. I feel really lucky to have been appointed as Master Distiller, it’s hard to call it a job as it’s such a privilege and a passion to be a part of Four Roses. It’s been an amazing year.
– Brent Elliott: Four Roses Master Distiller

After Four Roses’ success at winning Best Bourbon and Directors Awards at the San Francisco Comp, we’re excited to have Brent in the UK to convert any remaining non-believers. We can’t promise you a burning bush or a wedding at Cana moment but one sip will lead you to worship at the altar of this cult bourbon!
– Charles Marshall: Spirit Cartel Consiglieri

Four Roses bourbon recently had an outstanding result in the 2016 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, winning seven awards. These included the Director’s Award of Excellence and the 2016’s Best Bourbon award for their 2015 Limited Edition Small Batch Bourbon.

The full listing of awards Four Roses Bourbon received at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition is as follows:
· Director’s Award

Country: American
Region: American
Age:
Strength: 50.%
75cl

Summary: Country/Region: USA/Virginia. ABV: 50%. Unit: 75cl. Early pioneer Colonel John J. Bowman first explored Kentucky in 1775. Four years later he moved his family to Lincoln County where they were among the earliest settlers of Kentucky. He presided over Kentucky's first county court and was also appointed the first military commander and governor of Kentucky County. He was the great, great uncle of Abram Bowman, founder of Virginia's A. Smith Bowman Distillery. This single barrel bourbon whiskey commemorates the early American pioneer John J. Bowman. Tasting Notes: This bourbon whiskey has been hand selected from some of the oldest barrels in our warehouse. Each barrel rests years on end while Virginia's moderate, but ever-changing climate extracts the complex flavours from the oak and mellows the whiskey. When the time is right, these prime barrels are hand-bottled with care. This single barrel bourbon is 100 proof, but still smooth as the fall breeze. Its fragrant nose is followed by hints of toffee, leather, figs and almonds with a long dry finish. Drink straight or over ice. Ratings: Double Gold Medal / 2015 Sanfrancisco World Spirits Competition.

Royal Salute 32 Year Old Union of the Crowns Unveiled

September 22, 2016 by Gary Leave a Comment

Royal Salute 32 Year Old

Royal Salute 32 Year Old

Royal Salute, the exceptionally crafted and aged Scotch whisky, has unveiled Royal Salute 32 Year Old Union of the Crowns, a new exquisite blend that unites precious single malt and grain whiskies aged for a minimum of 32 years. Celebrating the creation of the modern British Monarchy, which is the source of the brand’s inspiration and values, the expression will appeal to aficionados looking for a rare whisky experience and will be available exclusively through global travel retail.

Royal Salute 32 Year Old Union of the Crowns will be available from September 2016

Royal Salute 32 Year Old Union of the Crowns will be available from September 2016

Royal Salute 32 Year Old Union of the Crowns pays tribute to the events of 1603, when King James VI fused three mighty kingdoms to create the modern British Monarchy. Reflecting the significance of this historical event, the rare single malts in Royal Salute 32 Year Old Union of the Crowns also show the power of unity, combining precious whiskies to create an incredible experience that can boast to be greater than the sum of its parts.

Exceptional whiskies aged for over 32 years have been hand-selected from some of the best distilleries in Scotland, such as: Longmorn with its creamy texture; the characteristically fruity Glen Keith; the sweetness of Tormore and the richness of Braeval as well as long-since closed distilleries – Lochside and Caperdonich. With all of these elements combined the final expression offers a rich and fruity nose with flavours of soft caramel toffee, dark chocolate and orange with a touch of ginger cake.

Reflecting the rare liquid within, Royal Salute 32 Year Old Union of the Crowns is presented in an elegant porcelain flagon, made from the purest clay, water and tempered fire. The flagon, which takes ten days to make at the hands of highly skilled craftsmen, is embossed with a distinguished hand-hammered silver plaque, while a black stone set on a silver crown tops the bottle. Each bottle is unique, with the glaze giving every flagon an individual patina, the result of a secret firing process. The story of the Union of the Crowns is brought elegantly to life through the flagon’s long neck, which is decorated with a rose, a thistle and a shamrock.

We are very pleased to present Royal Salute 32 Year Old Union of the Crowns, a truly precious blend of aged whiskies. This unique Scotch unites the timeless tradition of our skills and history with a contemporary understanding of the whisky experience preferred by today’s discerning spirits drinkers. The British Monarchy has been at the heart of the brand since its foundation in 1953 and, as a true representation of the exquisite craft of the Royal Salute blending team, we expect this new expression to become a sought-after collector’s item for international travellers.
– Peter Moore: Prestige Brand Director at Chivas Brothers

Royal Salute 32 Year Old Union of the Crowns will be available in global travel retail from September 2016 at an RRP of 380 USD or local equivalent.

Tasting notes:

Nose: Rich and fruity with notes of peaches in sweet syrup, soft caramel toffee, cinnamon and a hint of luxurious dark chocolate.
Taste: Full and exquisitely smooth, sweet orange flavours balanced with soft ripe pear and a hint of liquorice and ginger cake.
Finish: Long, sweet and smooth.

Combining their shared values of craft, style and tradition, Chivas 18 and Pininfarina have created a dynamic gift tin using one fluid curve, which highlights the luxury Scotch within. Marrying form and function, the limited edition echoes the aerodynamic creations of Pininfarina with a unique cut-out in the twisted casing to display the golden hues of the whisky. This simple design suggests the harmony of flavour, while the packaging represents harmony of line – the result is Chivas 18 by Pininfarina Chapter 3 which is an effortlessly classic design.

We are pleased to unveil Chivas 18 by Pininfarina Chapter 3, the next edition for our outstanding partnership. Every chapter has brought a new and exciting creation, each proving hugely successful, while being as usable as they are enjoyable. The Chivas 18 by Pininfarina Chapter 3 is a beautifully designed celebration of form and function that resonates with our shared values of understated luxury.
– Richard Black: Chivas Regal Global Brand Director

The new creation Chivas 18 by Pininfarina Chapter 3 is a superb piece of design. Over the last three years, we have enjoyed working with Chivas 18 immensely. Although we come from different backgrounds, it is impossible not to recognise the craftsmanship and ethos shared between our two brands.
– Paolo Pininfarina: Chairman of the Pininfarina Group

The Chivas 18 by Pininfarina Chapter 3 gift tin will be launching globally from October 2016 for the RRP USD$75.

Relaunch of James Eadie 160 Year Old Whisky Brand!

September 13, 2016 by Gary Leave a Comment

Celebrating the new venture, Alistair Eadie with his nephew, Rupert Patrick.

The first bottling of James Eadie in over 150 years.

More than 150 years since it was established, the James Eadie whisky brand is being relaunched by the great-great grandson of the founder.

Renowned whisky entrepreneur and CEO of James Eadie, Rupert Patrick, is bringing the brand back to life with a selection of single cask and small batch bottlings of James Eadie whiskies. The bottlings include malts from Speyside, the Highlands and Islay, with whiskies from Inchgower, Benrinnes, Blair Athol, Caol Ila, Dailuaine and Linkwood.

Some are bottled from only one cask, others are from two to three casks, with each whisky individually picked for its distinctive quality. Maturation age and cask quality underpin this exciting new range of malts.

I’ve known about my great-great grandfather’s whisky for many years, indeed I have a bottle in my collection, but until now I’ve never had the chance to realise my ambition to get the brand going again. I’ve had 25 very enjoyable years working in Scotch Whisky and now it’s fantastic to be selecting outstanding quality single malts to bottle under the James Eadie brand.

Demand for good quality single malts is growing by 6% per year worldwide and consumers are prepared to look beyond the well marketed brands to find something new. Some of the distilleries we’ve chosen casks from are hidden gems. I’m forever learning about the breadth and depth of quality in Scotch Whisky.

We are lucky to have access to some exceptional stocks of malt and grain, giving us scope to bottle fantastic single malts, and the potential to add blended malts and blended whisky. Our attention to detail, and to quality, is second to none.
– Rupert Patrick: CEO of James Eadie

Scotch Whisky drinkers in the UK and elsewhere, excited by the growth in small scale distilling, are increasingly discovering that many longstanding distilleries produce a fantastic, but often hard to find, dram. The James Eadie single cask and small batch bottlings give Scotch Whisky lovers a chance to taste some of these well-established, but hard to find whiskies.
– Campbell Evans: former international affairs director at the Scotch Whisky Association

The initial focus for exports will be Denmark, Holland, Austria and France, all of which have a strong market for single malt Scotch Whisky.

Bresser & Timmer is the distributor for James Eadie in the Netherlands.

In general the prices of Scotch single malt whiskies have soared over the past five years, whilst in many cases the price/quality ratio went the opposite way. After tasting the James Eadie single malts and learning about the concept behind the brand we became very enthusiastic. We feel that the whisky drinker, by choosing a James Eadie single malt, is very well served both in the quality and the price.
– Hans Bresser: Bresser & Timmer

James Eadie whiskies will be available to buy from its exclusive partner in the UK, Royal Mile Whiskies. Prices range from £36.95 to £55.

Alan Galloway, who with 16 years’ experience in the industry will work across the portfolio while supporting Sandy exclusively on the Ballantine’s range.

The Chivas Brothers Blending Team brings together an enviable wealth of talent that is set to reinforce the craftsmanship and quality of our whisky-making and continue to drive our business forward.

– Laurent Lacassagne: Chivas Brothers CEO and Chairman

The newly-bolstered team represents the most significant development for the blending department in recent years and is a clear signal of the company’s long-term commitment to excellence in blended Scotch. The setup creates the perfect atmosphere to nurture talent, inspire innovation and pass on the craftsmanship Chivas Brothers is renowned for.

The entire blending department is complemented by Chivas Brothers’ network of Global Brand Ambassadors and Graduate Brand Ambassadors – a team of Scotch whisky and Chivas Brothers experts who travel the globe year round to educate consumers on the company’s brands, safeguarding the prestige and legacy of the portfolio internationally.
