Robert from Highfern has very kindly sent me some samples (Cheers Robert!)

So, what did I think? Here are my tasting notes …

Tasting Notes – Langatun Swiss Single Malt 10 Years Old – Second Edition (49.12%)

Nose: Very sherried with polished wood and fruity, creamy, toffee.

Palate: Thick mouthfeel, creamy toffee and sweet red wine – very tasty!

Finish: A balanced chilli finish with caramel and sugar.

Overall: A tasty dram with some classy flavours – very satisfying!

Tasting Notes – Smögen 8 Years Old – Batch 2 (59.8%)

Nose: Whoah! Loads of peaty liquid smoke – sweet & cheerful! Woody, coastal and aromas of full-on smokey barbecue – I think you get the idea!

Palate: Much of the same as the Nose! It’s also surprisingly sweet.

Finish: Punchy, warming and powerful it’s sweet, smokey barbecue sauce on the tongue!

Overall: I just love peat n’ smoke so I’m a big fan from the get go and this dram lives up to all expectations!

Many thanks to highfern.com (@angelsnectar) for sending me the samples!

BOTTLING SERIE: Fugaku Sanjurokkei – 8th Release.

DISTILLED: 1999-2000

BOTTLED: 2016

ABV: 59.2% Vol.

"Fugaku Sanjurokkei" is a series of landscape prints by the prominent Japanese ukiyo-e (pictures of the floating world) artist Hokusai. The term literally means "36 Views of Mount Fuji", for which Hokusai depicts Mount Fuji from different locations in various weather conditions. Karuizawa has adopted the theme and introduced Fugaku Sanjurokkei Series, exhibiting one of the 36 striking prints in each release. These releases are drawn from casks of 1999 and 2000 vintages and bottled at cask strength.

Karuizawa distillery sat in the foothills of Mount Asama, where the chilly climate provided an excellent condition for the production of whisky. Though small, this distillery was known for producing whisky of the finest quality. The distillery was closed in 2011 and hence has made the Karuizawa whiskies extremely rare and valuable.

The 1999-2000 cask strength series comes from the final years of the distilleries production. This one is one of the latest releases in 2016 and marks the 8th edition of this series. This edition presents the "Yoshida on the Tokaido Highway". Living in the age of Edo, every day can be Sunday. The life is so free that they can have an up-and-go travel whenever they want to. The painting shows a tea room located on the Tōkaidō, where travelers can take a rest and enjoy the beautiful view of Mt. Fuji.

This bottle of Karuizawa Whisky is presented to those on the road. Enjoy the taste of life.

One of the new limited editions, this is the first time using this type of cask for Deanston whisky.  Limited to 5604 bottles, this 17 year old single malt is light and crisp with a delicious malty creaminess.

ABOUT 2002 PINOT NOIR CASK: Given that Pinot Noir grapes are good enough to make Champagne, that most regal of sparkling wines, we hoped Pinot Noir casks might be worthy of creating a finish for our soft and honeyed malt. And you know what? They most definitely are. Notes of vanilla, citrus and sweet white wine are delivered with a zing so zesty, you can practically hear them.

NOSE: Light and crisp, orchard fruits followed by creamy vanilla and oak, giving way to a subtle hint of green grape.

PALATE: Dry, acidic, slight maltiness with a rich hit of tannin.

FINISH: Long acidity, giving way to a milk malty creaminess.

NOSE: crystal clarity to the sharp, ultra fresh barley. Clean, uncluttered by excessive oak, the apparent lightness is deceptive; the intensity of the malt carries its own impressive weight and the citrus note compliments rather than thins. Enticing;

TASTE: immediately zingy and eye-watering salivating with a fabulous layering of sweet barley. Equally delicate oak chimes in to ensure a lightly spiced balance and a degree of attitude;

FINISH: longer than the early barley freshness would have you expecting, with soft oils ensuring an extended, tapering, malty edge to the gentle, clean oak;

BALANCE: sophisticated, sensual with character and about as puckering elegant as single malt gets…and even thirst-quenching. My God: the guy who put this one together must be a genius, or something

Tullamore Irish Whiskey – New Arrivals At Edencroft!

January 7, 2021 by Gary Leave a Comment

Tullamore D.E.W. / 18 Year Old Single Malt.
£90.00

New Arrivals

Tullamore D.E.W. / Irish Whiskey .
Tullamore D.E.W. / Irish Whiskey .

£23.50
Country: Irish
Region: Irish
Age:
Strength: 40%.

Summary:

COUNTRY/REGION: Ireland.

CATEGORY: Blend.

DISTILLERY: Tullamore Dew.

BOTTLER: Distillery Bottling.

ABV: 40% Vol.

Tullamore D.E.W. Original is a triple distilled, triple blend of all three types of Irish whiskey: single malt, grain and pot still. The sweet softness of grain whiskey, soft spice from the pot still and fruitiness of the single malt create a uniqueness of flavour that marks out Tullamore D.E.W. from all other Irish whiskeys. Tullamore D.E.W. Original is triple cask matured in three distinct cask types – traditional refill, ex-bourbon and ex-sherry – to create unrivalled depth and balance of flavour.

The early floral yet biscuit flavour reflects the grain whiskey, while the soft spicy notes can be attributed to the pot still whiskey in the blend. The citrus flavour is complemented by the single malt. The nutty, or even marzipan note, combined with distinctive vanilla in the finish, is imparted by the sherry and bourbon casks used in maturation.

John Quinn, Global Brand Ambassador for Tullamore D.E.W., said: “Tullamore D.E.W. is the only whiskey to insist on the ‘Power of Three’ at the three key stages of whiskey making. It’s a triple distilled, triple blend of all three types of whiskey, matured in three types of cask. It’s the blend of all three types of triple distilled whiskey, and, in particular, the inclusion of single malt, that gives Tullamore D.E.W. more complexity and a unique smoothness, setting it apart from all others as an Irish whiskey of true character.”

NOSE: Light, sweet citrus and green apple combined with vanilla undertones.

TASTE: Early fresh fruit leads to a definite light spike followed by some toasted wood which evolves into a delicious vanilla sweetness.

FINISH: Put the glass down as you sense the almost buttery mellowness.
