Svensk Ek has a spicy character giving notes of sandalwood, dried ginger, black pepper, roasted oak barrel and herbs to the whisky. These spicy characteristics are complemented by fruity undertones with hints of vanilla and toffee from oak barrels, previously used to age Bourbon.

The Swedish oak barrels are made of oak from southern Sweden where oak trees have grown for centuries.

Harsh weather conditions and dramatic seasonal shifts have left their marks on the trees, making them very durable. Before the trees become barrels staves are cut and then dried for at least a year.

The barrels are then coopered by hand and heavily toasted on the inside, enabling the wood fibres to give the whisky more character.

Mackmyra are constantly developing their ancient craft to make it even better. One example of the many innovations is to age a great deal of the whisky in smaller barrels thereby extracting more flavour.

NOSE: Fruity with citrus, pear, apple and honey. A light oakiness with sweet, lightly toasted bread notes and fresh butter toffee.

MOUTH: Svensk ek has a spicy character giving notes of sandalwood, dried ginger, black pepper, roasted oak barrel and herbs to their whisky. Fruity and smooth with citrus, caramel and honey. A light oakiness can be discerned at the end.

The flavour of the smoke in Svensk Rök (Swedish smoke) is inspired by the old tradition of seasoning and preserving food by infusing it with juniper smoke. In this second and limited edition of Svensk Rök, Mackmyra have aged their smoky recipe exclusively in virgin American oak. This gives the whisky prominent notes of vanilla and herbs – A welcome contrast to the bold notes of peat, juniper and tar.

NOSE:  Smoke, spiciness, oak, fruits and herbs. Notes of peat, juniper, toasted oak and vanilla followed by a smoky and spicy aroma with saltiness, minerals, tobacco leaves, light tariness. Arrak treats, pear fudge, ginger and vanilla.

MOUTH: Peat, juniper, salt, definitively more smoky than what the nose is implying. A pleasant oaky spiciness with vanilla, toasted oak, pickled figs and pear fudge. The texture is medium-thick with oaky chewy notes.

SUMMARY: Spicy, smoky and oaky with notes of tar, tobacco leaves, bright notes of pickled figs and pear fudge.

Mackmyra Björksav (birch sap) is a Swedish single malt whisky
inspired by the long-awaited return of spring.

By including casks that were seasoned with Swedish birch sap wine, we have created a floral whisky with a fresh spiciness and sweet notes of vanilla fudge. Björksav is a collaboration with our friends at Grythyttan wine.

Moment Brukswhisky DLX is the deluxe version of our classic Brukswhisky; a nod to the original distillery at Mackmyra Bruk but also a stepping stone towards the future. The recipe has remained the same, but the whisky has aged for a longer period in casks. The whisky has gone through an intriguing development, which has resulted in a richer and more complex palate, with buttery notes of caramel and vanilla. In the background echoes light and spicy notes of toasted oak, juniper and peat. Brukswhisky DLX is between 9-14 years old and was aged in the Bodås Mine warehouse. The colour is natural and light golden yellow.

NOSE: Soft vanilla with caramel, honey and chocolate. Finely roasted, bready notes of oak and spicy herbs with light tobacco leaves, leather, white pepper and eucalyptus. Soft, fruity notes of pears, citrus and a hint of raisins.

TASTE: Buttery vanilla caramel, ripe pears and citrus. Soft, herbal spices with anise and pepper, light notes of roasted oak, peat and juniper.

SUMMARY: Soft citrus and pear fruit that ends with slightly spicy notes of roasted oak and vanilla.
