Celebrate Scotland’s Football Tournament Return After 23 Years With A New Limited Edition Whisky!

May 28, 2021 by Gary Leave a Comment

New limited-edition whisky celebrates Scotland’s Tournament Return After 23 Years!

Whisky lovers will soon be raising a glass to a new limited-edition single malt that has been specially ageing for nearly 23 years – and has only been released to mark Scotland’s reappearance at a major men’s football tournament.

Released by the Gleann Mòr Spirits Company, the Rare Find Whisky has been produced in a unique partnership with the Scotland National Team.

“This whisky is a truly historic collector’s item that no fan of football or fine malt will want to miss.”

The dram was first poured into its cask on 24 June 1998 – the day after Scotland went out of the World Cup to Morocco, losing 3-0 in St Etienne, France.

After decades of hurt, it will now be bottled the day before Scotland’s opening fixture of Euro 2020 against the Czech Republic on 14 June 2021 at Hampden Park, Glasgow.

We are delighted to finally be able to share this special edition with Scotland’s long-suffering football fans. During the almost 23 years that it’s been ageing, Scotland may have endured football heartache, but this sublime single malt has been waiting patiently, developing its distinctively divine character.

Along with the rest of the nation, we’ve also waited patiently, but the time has finally come to crack open this whisky and toast Scotland’s return to the major football stage.

This whisky is a truly historic collector’s item that no fan of football or fine malt will want to miss.

Its creation has been a long time coming and we know there will be plenty to celebrate on and off the pitch when it’s finally poured.
– Karin Mair: Gleann Mòr Spirits

Only 280 individually numbered bottles will be made available, giving aficionados an unrivalled opportunity to own a unique piece of Scottish footballing history.

Tasting notes

Big, bold and salty on the nose with a hint of sweet autumnal peat and baked apples in the mouth, the sweet peat develops into a sugary cereal layer with a softly spice, gentle ash and a dulcet phenolic finish.

How to buy

The limited-edition Rare Find, which originated from Cask 353892 at the Bowmore distillery, is the star player in a glittering line-up of Scottish National Team whiskies.

Only available to pre-order online, its team-mates in the Gleann Mòr squad are:

Glen Elgin 20-year-old single malt – a smooth and classy dram combining sweetly satisfying Scottish honey, warm spice and butter toffee.
Scottish National Team Blended Malt Whisky – a mix of select Speyside single malts, rich in lemon shortbread, dried fruit and toasted oak flavours.
Scottish National Team Blended Whisky – a winning combination of strength and style, with warming tones of toffee, vanilla, pears and spiced oak.

To find out more and order – please visit rarefindwhisky.co.uk

The Gleann Mòr Spirits Company was founded in 2013 by Derek and Karin Mair. Born from a passion for rare find whiskies and single cask editions, it has quickly become known as the place to go for a unique and hard-to-find dram.

Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door? Bob Dylan’s Whiskey & Redbreast Irish Whiskey Announce First Ever Collaboration!

May 20, 2021 by Gary Leave a Comment

Heaven’s Door Whiskey & Redbreast’s “The Master Blenders’ Edition”

Heaven’s Door Whiskey, Bob Dylan’s evolving collection of American whiskeys, and Redbreast Irish Whiskey, the world renowned Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey, proudly announce the release of a limited-edition 10-Year Aged Bourbon finished in Redbreast casks!

Bob Dylan

This first ever collaboration for both brands was created in tandem by Master Blenders, Ryan Perry of Heaven’s Door and Billy Leighton of Redbreast Irish Whiskey, and has been aptly named, “The Master Blenders’ Edition.” Marrying the best of American and Irish whiskey, The Master Blenders’ Edition has already been awarded a Double Gold medal in a blind tasting in the 2021 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

A collaboration more than two years in the making, Perry and Leighton worked together on a multitude of blends and barrel finishes to arrive at their final whiskey profile. As a lover of Irish Whiskey and of Redbreast in particular, Heaven’s Door Founder, Bob Dylan, worked closely with the Master Blenders and sampled over a dozen blends before settling on the final selection.

Mr. Dylan is a perfectionist and knows his whiskey.

His engagement and enthusiasm for this collaboration made this project even more special.
– Billy Leighton: Redbreast Irish Whiskey’s Master Blender

The Master Blenders’ Edition features Heaven’s Door 10-year aged Straight Bourbon finished in Redbreast’s signature Single Pot Still Casks for 15 months, extracting flavour from single pot Irish whiskey and formerly Spanish sherry. The end result is a taste profile unlike any American whiskey and delivers prominent notes of nuts, spice and leather, as well as the influence of sherry, citrus, dark fruit, and a subtle sweetness of Yellow Man from the Redbreast casks.

We’re honored to have had the opportunity to work with Billy and the rest of the Redbreast team to bring The Master Blenders’ Edition to life.

Heaven’s Door was founded around the spirit of collaboration, and this was a dream partnership for our brand. I can honestly say that the final flavor profile blew us away.
– Ryan Perry: Heaven’s Door Master Blender

A collaboration more than two years in the making …

The Master Blenders’ Edition allows both the American and Irish Whiskey distilling traditions to shine through.

We think fans of Redbreast, Heaven’s Door, and whiskey enthusiasts everywhere will be delighted with what they taste with this product.
– Billy Leighton

The Master Blenders’ Edition is offered in Heaven’s Door’s signature bottle, featuring a new gate design created by Bob Dylan in his Black Buffalo Ironworks studio, as well as Redbreast’s iconic Robin.

Available in very limited quantities on ReserveBar.com and at select retailers, The Master Blenders’ Edition is being released in the U.S. just in time for Father’s Day. It will also be available in limited quantities in September in the UK and Ireland. With a suggested retail price of $99.99 for a 750ml bottle and a single limited bottling, once this release is gone, it is gone for good.

Tasting Notes

The Master Blenders’ Edition is best enjoyed neat or on the rocks or with a splash of water and features the following characteristics:

Age: 10 Years
Proof: 100
ABV: 50%

Nose: Full and complex body with notes of red apples, figs and dates

Palate: Marzipan and walnut with buttery ground nut sweetness, raisin, and nougat

Finish: Delicate with a touch of honey and coconut and subtle sweetness from Irish honeycomb

Sampling Kilchoman’s ‘PX Sherry Cask Matured’ – A Limited Edition – With No Limits In Flavour!

May 19, 2021 by Gary Leave a Comment

Kilchoman’s ‘PX Sherry Cask Matured’ – A Limited Edition!

Kilchoman has scored another first, namely ‘PX Sherry Cask Matured’, a PX (Pedro Ximénez) Sherry Cask Matured limited edition!

Some may already have tasted the single cask releases matured in PX from Kilchoman, but this will be the first general release, available worldwide.

Recent releases of Fino and Oloroso sherry matured whisky from the distillery has shown how each individual style of sherry has added its own unique character to the Kilchoman spirit. Pedro Ximénez, commonly referred to as PX, is a sweet sherry that adds waves of richness and intensely sweet flavours to the whisky.

This first edition of the PX Sherry Cask Matured is a vatting of 33 casks in total, 9 fully matured casks and 24 finished in Pedro Ximénez for between 12 and 18 months. These casks were combined to produce 12,000 bottles at a strength of 47.3% abv.

Kilchoman PX Sherry Cask Matured is bottled at 47.3% ABV and is now available worldwide!

Pedro Ximénez casks aren’t always the easiest to work with. That was why we decided on a combination of full maturation and finishing, to balance the distinct PX influence with that of our spirit.

I’m delighted with the result; big and bold but with a delightful poise and balance of flavour.
– Anthony Wills: Kilchoman Founder

Kilchoman Distillery sits nestled amongst the traditional buildings of Rockside Farm on the north-west coast of Islay. Famous as Islay’s Farm Distillery, the distillery’s barley fields stretch west to the shores of Machir Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.

Established in 2005, Kilchoman is unique in many ways, most notably for their 100% Islay range, Scotland’s only Single Farm Single Malt. True to Islay’s rich farm distilling heritage, Kilchoman uses local Islay cut peat, slowly distilling by hand, maturing in traditional dunnage warehouses and bottling on site without colouring or chill-filtration.

Kilchoman PX Sherry Cask Matured is bottled at 47.3% ABV and is now available worldwide – RRP: £74.94

Kilchoman has kindly sent me a sample to try. (Thanks kilchomandistillery.com / @Kilchomanwhisky!)

So, what did I think? Here are my tasting notes …

Tasting Notes – Kilchoman PX Sherry Cask Matured Limited Edition Islay Whisky (47.3%)

Nose: Plump, stewed fruits with inviting wisps of peaty smoke. It’s accompanied with a salty coastal tang which is a delight! Later on there’s sherry, chocolate and toffee caramel at the very end.

Palate: More of those tempting stewed fruits but this time there’s cherries as well. Hints of mint and menthol with sherry and chocolate adding to the fun!

Finish: Smooth, long and very warming with peppery smokiness and strong underlying tobacco.

Overall: The smokiness builds up over time and makes an excellent partner for the sweeter side of the dram.

Another very enjoyable whisky from Kilchoman – they are really spoiling us!

Kilchoman is available to buy from these Merchants:-

  • The Whisky Exchange
  • Master of Malt
  • The Whisky Shop
  • The Little Whisky Shop
  • Abbey Whisky

Many thanks to kilchomandistillery.com (@Kilchomanwhisky) for sending me the sample!

About Kilchoman

Kilchoman Distillery is a small family run farm distillery based on the rugged west coast of Islay. The distillery was established by Anthony Wills in 2005, the idea was to build a new distillery which took whisky production back to its roots. Anthony and wife Kathy have been joined by their three sons; George, James and Peter.

Kilchoman produces its 100% Islay single malt from barley which is grown in fields surrounding the distillery and completes every stage of the whisky-making process at the distillery, including traditional floor malting. Kilchoman is the only distillery in Scotland to do this.

Since the first bottling was released in 2009, Kilchoman has quickly established itself as a high quality Islay Single Malt Whisky with these notable awards:

– Kilchoman’s exceptional quality was recognised at the prestigious International Whisky Competition (IWC) when Anthony Wills was named Master Distiller of the Year 2013.
– In 2016 both core expressions won major awards with Sanaig named Best Single Malt Scotch Whisky – no age statement at the IWSC and Machir Bay came first as Best Islay Single Malt Scotch in the International Whisky Competition.
– Machir Bay was also awarded a Gold Medal in 2015 at the International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC) with Loch Gorm being awarded a Silver Outstanding Medal and 100% Islay a Silver at the prestigious awards.
– Kilchoman won Malt Advocates Artisan Whisky of the Year 2011, only three years after the first bottling was released.

The Dubliner Smoked Stout Irish Whiskey Released!

May 18, 2021 by Gary Leave a Comment

The Dubliner Smoked Stout Whiskey!

The Dubliner Irish Whiskey has launched The Dubliner Smoked Stout Whiskey, the first release from the brand’s latest limited-edition collection, The Dubliner Whiskey Beer Cask Edition Series, following a collaboration with one of Ireland’s leading craft brewers, Rascal’s Brewing Company.

The Dubliner Smoked Stout Edition is a whiskey packed with personality and flavour, bottled at 40% ABV. If freshly baked oat cookies, honeyed sweetness and fresh cinnamon spice, followed by big creamy maltiness and subtle toasty smokiness floats your boat, this is one whiskey you’re going to need in your life.

A limited edition with fewer than 2,000 bottles …

You’ll need to be quick though -The Dubliner Irish Whiskey Smoked Stout is a limited edition with fewer than 2,000 bottles on sale, available from thedld.com for €35

This latest collaboration saw the award-winning Dubliner Irish Whiskey share their ex-bourbon whiskey casks with fellow Dublin neighbour and independent Irish craft brewer, Rascal’s, with the brewers filling the casks with their high quality, unfiltered and unpasteurised beer.

Following bottling, the casks were returned to the Dubliner team, with each cask refilled with The Dubliner Irish Whiskey, allowing the flavours of the beer, having soaked into the casks, to seep into the three-year-old whiskey, creating a delicious blend that’s set to excite whiskey and beer fans alike.

We are excited to launch the Dubliner Smoked Stout Irish Whiskey in Ireland. This is the latest in our flavour work on the brand. Dubliner Irish Whiskey is committed to making whiskey accessible for anyone to try.

Big on flavour, it is sure to appeal to whiskey and beer drinkers alike.
– Bronagh Hunt: Global Brand Director, Irish Whiskeys at Quintessential Brands

Jura Whisky Unveils Distillery Cask “Fèis Ìle” Limited Edition 2021!

May 18, 2021 by Gary Leave a Comment

Jura Whisky Unveils Distillery Cask Fèis Ìle Edition 2021!

Jura Single Malt whisky has announced the launch of its Distillery Cask Fèis Ìle Edition 2021, which is set for release on the distillery’s official day of Fèis Ìle on 6th June. This special single cask release will, for the first time, support the vital annual Jura Music Festival!

Fully matured for 18 years in a single refill sherry butt from Jerez in Southern Spain, hand selected by Jura distillery manager Graham Logan, this unpeated Jura single malt delivers sweet aromas of candied almonds, toasted marshmallows and Scottish tablet. Intense flavours of rich chocolate orange, treacle and Demerara sugar come through on the palate with a sticky sweet-salted caramel to finish.

The single cask release is offered at a cask strength of 57.1% ABV and is non-chill filtered with no added colour. Distilled on 30th October 2002, only 300 bottles will be available for sale, each one filled and wax sealed by the distillery team – a testament to the passion and commitment of the tiny island community.

A donation of £25 from each bottle sold will help to honour Jura’s favourite island event of the year, the Jura Music Festival. Now in its 28th year, this year’s festival will take place online during the last weekend in September and will host traditional Scottish musicians and bands from around the country for a weekend packed full of music. The £25 donation is equivalent to the cost of a ticket to the main Saturday night event which is the highlight of the Festival for many.

Only 300 bottles will be available for sale …

Despite the challenges of the past year, we are delighted to be back for Fèis Ìle 2021 with a very special limited-edition release which gives back to our community and this vital annual event which we’ve proudly supported over the years.

When hand selecting this specific cask, I was looking for a whisky that was smooth, bright and lively, like the atmosphere on the island during the festival. This 18-Year-Old single cask bottling is a real treat for Jura fans. Our gulf stream-protected warehouses allow a longer maturation cycle and the sea spray and cask have given this whisky a long-lasting, salted caramel taste on the tongue.
– Graham Logan: Jura distillery Manager

At the designated Fèis Ìle day on 6th June celebrating Jura, Jura Whisky will be hosting a range of interactive virtual events which fans can join online. Two Instagram Lives hosted by Global Single Malt Specialist, Stephen Martin, will showcase the best of Jura, from Brunch Time cocktails with Kyle Jamieson of Edinburgh’s Nauticus Bar to the Jura pub lock-in with Andy Gemmell of The Gate in Glasgow.

Each bottle of Jura Whisky is said to be a celebration of the island home and embodies the passion of those who make it. This remote Scottish island provides the canvas from which these dedicated islanders take their inspiration, and the distillery provides the means to bring this to life through whisky making.

The Jura Distillery Cask Fèis Ìle Edition 2021 will be available to buy from jurawhisky.com on 6th June, 2021 – priced at £145.

About Jura:

Jura is an island nestled off the West Coast of Scotland. With only one road, one pub, one whisky distillery and 212(ish) people, Jura is as beautiful as it is remote.

The distillery was established in 1810 and reborn in 1963 to revive the community.

Inspired by our history and our island home, we create single malt with a true passion for the craft of whisky making.

Find The ‘Golden Cork’ & Win A Bottle Of The Redbreast Dream Cask Whiskey!

May 17, 2021 by Gary Leave a Comment

The Redbreast Golden Cork!

Redbreast Irish Whiskey, produced by Irish Distillers at its world-renowned Midleton Distillery in Co. Cork, is offering whiskey lovers the chance to win a bottle of its eagerly anticipated fourth annual Dream Cask release – simply by finding one of six golden corks hidden among the latest release of its award-winning Redbreast 12 Year Old!

The fourth Redbreast Dream Cask release will be available exclusively through an online ballet

Available exclusively to UK consumers via the Master of Malt online shop, the competition represents a rare opportunity to secure one of the most sought-after limited edition expressions in the annual Irish whiskey calendar.

Now in its fourth year, the annual Redbreast Dream Cask release represents the fulfilment of a dream held by Master Blender, Billy Leighton, to share an annual release like no other, and features a small selection of the very finest whiskeys in Midleton’s exceptional inventory which are finished in one ‘dream’ cask to create an expression that is truly unique.

The 2021 edition was unveiled on Friday 14th May. Redbreast Dream Cask Oloroso Sherry Edition is a 29 year old single pot still Irish whiskey that celebrates the signature Redbreast style. Combining innovation, tradition and time-honoured craftsmanship by vatting together four special whiskeys, aged for a minimum of 29 years in ex-bourbon, sherry and ruby port seasoned casks, these whiskeys were married in a single outstanding oloroso sherry butt from Jerez de la Frontera in Spain’s Andalusia region.

They were then left to mature for a further 15 months to bring an evolution of its characteristic flavours to the Redbreast experience.

With an ABV of 51.2%, this rare bottling is luscious in flavour with notes of dark brown sugar, succulent berries and vanilla perfectly off-setting Redbreast’s trademark spices. Just 924 bottles are available at an RRP of €520.

Our annual Dream Cask release is an opportunity for whiskey lovers to savour something truly exceptional from our warehouse. All 816 bottles of our first Dream Cask release in 2018 – a hand-selected 32 Year Old single pot still Irish whiskey finished in a first-fill Oloroso Sherry-seasoned butt – sold out on the first day of release, at a rate of more than two bottles per minute.

Our 2019 release, which was created from a vatting of bourbon, Oloroso sherry and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks which were re-casked and finished in a specially selected Pedro Ximénez cask, a first for Redbreast and Midleton Distillery, sold out even more quickly, at a rate of 65 bottles per minute. Due to this phenomenal demand, we have since sought to make this highly sought-after annual release as equitable as possible, introducing a new balloting system in 2020.
– Billy Leighton: Master Blender

Our new ‘golden cork’ campaign offers six lucky winners the chance to secure a bottle of the latest Redbreast Dream Cask. We’re delighted to partner with Master of Malt on this exclusive opportunity, and at the same time, the consolation for anyone who purchases a bottle of our Redbreast 12 Year Old, but isn’t lucky enough to find a golden cork, is that they still get to enjoy an outstanding and multi award-winning single pot still Irish whiskey.
– Ian Peart: Commercial Director at Pernod Ricard UK

The fourth Redbreast Dream Cask release will be available exclusively through an online ballet hosted through Redbreast’s online members’ club, The Birdhouse. The ballot will be live from 2pm on Monday 17th May until 2pm on Tuesday 25th May when successful participants will be able to purchase one €520, 500ml bottle.
