Talisker 57% North

Talisker 57% North
Country: Scotland   Region: Island
Age:    Strength:
Summary: A new high strength release from the Skye distillery. A classic, intense, vigorous Talisker with a unique strength of character, which becomes deeper and more approachable when water is added. It’s like looking out to sea with a storm brewing… Talisker Talisker Distillery was established at Carbost on the Isle of Skye off the west coast of Scotland in 1830. Soaking up its own reflection from Loch Harport one day yet fending off North Atlantic gales the next. Talisker is a Scottish Islands malt whisky distillery equipped with five stills and has retained its traditional five round wooden worm tubs. Visitors are welcome at the distillery visitor centre where tours of Talisker Distillery are available. The nose is very clean and intense, with light smoke soon appearing. Creamy toffee, with pronounced fruit acidity. Tart fruit, sweet to start, with smoke and tar abruptly exploding around the middle of the mouth. Sweet-centred, a little like liqueur chocolate, yet tempered by a savoury edge that stops things becoming too polite. The finish is oily and fairly medicinal with a drying tartness.

Convalmore 1984 Connoisseurs Choice

Convalmore 1984 Connoisseurs Choice
Country: Scotland   Region: Speyside
Age:    Strength:
Vintage: 1984   Bottler:
Summary: Convalmore 25 year old 1984 vintage matured in refill sherry hogsheads. Bottled 2010 by Gordon & MacPhail for the Connoisseurs Choice series. Rare Speyside single malt Scotch whisky. Convalmore Convalmore Distillery was founded in 1893 and commenced production of Speyside malt whisky the following year. Convalmore joined the James Buchanan blending empire and together they coped admirably with prohibition. A continuous sill was installed in 1909 and produced malt whisky until 1915 when it was removed and was replaced by four pot stills. The tall square four stage still house which housed Convalmore’s continuous still is still standing and is one of only two remaining in Scotland, the other is at the site of Kirkliston Distillery near Edinburgh. The distillery closed in 1985 and whilst the buildings are still standing all the equipment has been removed and so Convalmore Distillery is one of Speyside’s lost malt whisky distilleries. Nose: Light estery notes, hints of vanilla and fruity. Palate: Spicy – pepper, sweet and mouth watering. Finish: Well balanced.
