Caol Ila / 27 Rare Edition

£ 275.00
Country: Scotland
Region: Islay
Age: 27 Years Old
Strength: 52.2%.
70cl

Summary: Douglas Laing & Co. proudly offer this fine example of the Distillers’ Art as a special selection from their oldest stocks of whisky. No water is added to reduce its strength, as the Angel’s share has already taken care of that. No caramel, colouring is added, so that you can see it’s pure and natural colour. They have chosen to bottle this malt without chill-filtration in the old fashioned and traditional style. By so doing, they leave in the entire Distillers’ preferred qualities apparent on the nose, palate and finish – self evident when you remove the cork. As you can see on the label, this is one bottle of a very restricted offering, which once consumed, cannot ever be repeated. On the nose, detect a harbourlike quality with an Islay ferry, oily engine room style plus late soft summer tar. The palate opens softly and sweetly spiced, developing to a richly smoked, softly peated character. On the finish, waves of smoke and spices intermingle and run to a hot chilli amd dark chocolate trait plus a late mentholated style.

Country: Scotland
Region: Highlands
Age:
Strength: 46.8%

Summary: GLENTURRET DISTILLERY was licensed in 1775 but had been distilling illicitly since 1717 and can therefore claim to be THE OLDEST DISTILLERY IN SCOTLAND.
In keeping with this long history the distillery retains some unique traditions, mashing grist by hand and slowly fermenting the wort in wooden washbacks, for twice as long as other distilleries, to produce an extraordinarily smooth and fruity spirit. The middle cut of the spirit is selected by hand not by computer as it is in other distilleries.
Having worked closely with the Edrington Group, Hunter Laing & Co. Ltd is pleased to offer this exclusive limited-release of Glenturret 26 years old single Highland Malt whisky.
Bottled at natural cask-strength and without chill-filtration or artificial colouring, this small-batch release is a wonderful example of this small, artisanal distillery’s production. Matured in refill-bourbon casks specially selected from the distillery’s own stocks by its Master Blender, the whisky has a velvety palate with toffee notes and a vanilla sweetness combined with the unmistakeable fruitiness of ripe pineapples.
Limited to 2400 bottles worldwide and presented in a wooden gift box with accompanying certificate, this officially-licenced bottling of Glenturret 26 years old is available exclusively to partners of Hunter Laing & Co Ltd.
Colour: Golden to dark straw in colour, its tint speaks clearly of its long maturation in North American oak;
Nose: The whisky is wonderfully complex on the nose with sweet, fruity notes such as toffee apples combining with strong confectionery elements including milk chocolate & caramel along with toffee popcorn & fragrant woody notes including sandalwood & furniture polish. With the addition of some water it then becomes a little briny & musty;
Taste: On the palate, this Glenturret remains sweet with sherbet, some gentle spice and toffee notes. The caramel and golden syrup notes carry across from the nose to the palate and combine with an appealing vanilla sweetness;
Finish: The finish is medium to long, with caramel and ginger spice lingering on the palate.

Finish: a late settling of some sugary scores as the light muscovado overpowers the fudgy oak;
Balance: an early morning reminder why I can really love this job.

Glenmorangie / Tùsail

£ 77.50
Country: Scotland
Region: Highlands
Age:
Strength: 46.%
70cl

Summary: The 6th release from Glenmorangie's award-winning Private Edition, Tùsail is the product of a carefully-selected parcel of Maris Otter barley, floor-malted by hand using traditional techniques, and non chill-filtered.
A rich winter variety of barley first introduced in 1965, Maris Otter was bred specifically to meet the demand for a high quality brewing malt and recognized for its ability to impart rich, rustic malty flavours. Now used only by a select few who continue, like Glenmorangie, to uphold an ethos of sacrificing yield for quality by using only the finest ingredients, the result is a whisky celebrating the variety’s renowned taste profile.
Aroma: Deep earthy, robust aromas of malty, biscuity tones, with a backbone of nut toffee.
Taste: A rich, rustic profile of nut toffee, sweet barley malt, ginger, cinnamon, and dates in molasses complements more familiar Glenmorangie notes of peaches, oranges and smoked pears.
Finish: Tùsail lingers on with a mouth-coating finish.

Kilchoman / Loch Gorm 2015
Kilchoman / Loch Gorm 2015

£ 62.50
Country: Scotland
Region: Islay
Age:
Strength: 46.%
70cl

Summary: Kilchoman launch third annual Loch Gorm limited edition release
Independent farm distillery, Kilchoman, will be releasing a limited edition Loch Gorm Single Malt Whisky in March. Only a limited quantity of the exclusive bottling will be available and if past releases are anything to go by, it will sell quickly.
This is the third annual Loch Gorm Single Malt to be released by Kilchoman. Each release is differentiated by the distillation and bottling dates on the front of the bottle and gift carton.
Kilchoman’s Loch Gorm releases are traditionally matured in ex Oloroso sherry butts and this latest edition is no exception. Where the 2015 version differs from the previous year is the use of sherry hogsheads to mature a portion of the whisky rather than just sherry butts. This edition will also be marginally older than the five year old 2014 version, it being bottled from casks filled in both 2009 and 2010.
Anthony Wills, Founder and Managing Director of Kilchoman, said: “As well as this year’s release being slightly older, we decided to increase the ratio of single malt matured in smaller sherry hogsheads versus that matured in larger sherry butts. This increases the influence from the sherry casks and gives the whisky a striking intensity and richness. That said, the whisky retains the balance and complexity Kilchoman releases are well-known for.”
This range is named after a famously peaty loch over looked by the distillery; Kilchoman draws water for the production of Loch Gorm and their other releases from the burn that runs into the loch.
Colour: Deep and rich.
Nose: Soft, spicy and rich with light smoke dark chocolate and citrus fruit.
Palate: Soft fruits and peat smoke with a rich sweet finish.
Finish: Long and sweet, lingering smoke, well balanced.

The second release of Balblair 1975 is a rich gold colour.

BALBLAIR DISTILLERY
Exclusively Vintage: Each Balblair Vintage captures the essence of its year in a bottle. They’re only ever selected at the absolute peak of perfection. Handpicked, to represent the very best our Distillery has to offer.
You’ll notice our bottles are not marked with an age statement, but simply with the year that the whisky was laid down. From then, every cask is sampled, judged and selected by John MacDonald to find its optimum maturation point. The point at which each Vintage says it’s ready.
Our Whisky: Every distillery is different. From its location and water source, to its still shape and wood policy. These are all determining factors in its ultimate outcome – its taste.
Our Vintages are intriguingly complex and satisfying. We capture the intense esters at the start of the spirit cut to give our Vintages the core characteristics of apricots, oranges, spices, floral notes and green apples. The heavier oils and lipids at the end of the cut are also captured, giving leathery, nutty and full-bodied characteristics.
Our People: Every Balblair Vintage is strongly individual. Each a unique essence of a year, captured in a bottle.
Every year, our Distillery Manager, John MacDonald, tastes, judges and selects straight from the cask. And at exactly the right moment, when the balance between the age and the character of the whisky is just right, we bottle it.

Dalmore - 1995 Castle Leod/bordeaux Finish

Dalmore – 1995 Castle Leod/bordeaux Finish
Country: Scotland   Region: Highlands
Age: 16 Year Old.   Strength: 46%
Summary: A HEROIC PAST. In 1263, an ancestor of Clan Mackenzie saved King Alexander III from being gored by a stag whilst out hunting. The grateful King granted him the right to bear a stag’s head in his coat of arms. The Dalmore Distillery was long owned by The Mackenzie family and every bottle of single malt whisky from our Highland distillery was, and is, adorned with this proud emblem, symbolising the supremacy of The Dalmore.   SUPPORTING CASTLE LEOD TODAY.

This limited edition bottling celebrates the ancient and historic seat of Clan Mackenzie and is the second in a series crafted by Master Distiller Richard Paterson in homage to Clan Mackenzie. After all, it was the vision of the Mackenzie brothers in 1839 that laid the foundation for the distillerys monumental success. Located just 14 miles from The Dalmore Distillery. Castle Leod has been home to the Cabarfeidh, Chief of the Clan Mackenzie, since 1606 and is one of the few castles in Scotland still lived in and owned by direct descendents. It is in honour of one of Scotlandss great landmarks that The Dalmore commissioned the painting that graces this exceptional single malt. Fittingly, a proportion of the proceeds from its sale will go towards the upkeep of Castle Leod.   A MESSAGE FROM CABARFEIDH. “I’m honoured that Richard Paterson has created this extraordinary single malt in tribute to Castle Leod, the Mackenzie Clan’s spiritual home. Our Castle has stood the test of time, and I have no doubt that, in years to come, The Dalmore Castle Leod will equally be recognised as a tomeless classic.” Cabarfeidh, The Earl of Cromartie, Chief of the Clan Mackenzie.   A TASTE TO REMEMBER. “The joyful effervescence of fleshy plums, raisins and citrus fruits are followed by the silky tones of kiwi fruit, honey, caramelised almonds, spicy ginger, chewy toffee and soft liquorice brings this cornucopia of delights to a perfect conclusion. Matured initially in American white oak and Spanish sherry wood, and then transferred for a final 18 months to barriques from a legendary 1st cru Classé Bordeaux chateau. An Exceptional single malt of inimitable finesse.” Richard Paterson, Master Distiller.

OLD PULTENEY DISTILLERY
Founded in 1826 by James Henderson at the height of Wicks celebrated herring boom, the Pulteney Distillery is one of the most northerly on the British mainland.
At a time when road links to the town were yet to be established, the distillery was dependent on the sea for its supply of barley and for the shipping out of its malt whisky. Wick became known for the barrels of silver (herring) and gold (whisky) which left the port in vast numbers.
The distillery itself has an absorbing history, with its unique stills defying convention to this day. The wash still, in particular, is a source of fascination to visitors due to the absence of a swan neck. Legend has it that when the still was delivered it was too tall for the still house and the manager simply decided to cut the top off! The Old Pulteney bottle now incorporates a bulbous neck to reflect the shape of the stills.
Over time, the distillery has passed through the hands of various owners, and even closed during times of trouble for the industry in 1930. Luckily, the repeal of an often forgotten period of prohibition in 1947 saw the welcome resumption of whisky production, with the distillery changing ownership a number of times, before its purchase by Inver House Distillers in 1995. Throughout this history what has endured is the quality of the whisky. Traditional craftsmanship and the distillerys windswept location continue to contribute to the award-winning whisky that is Old Pulteney Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

Oban - 1995 Distillers Edition

Oban – 1995 Distillers Edition
Country: Scotland   Region: Highlands
Age: 15 Year Old.   Strength: 43%
Summary: Oban is the frontier between the West Highlands and the Islands; the meeting place between land and sea. A perfect, sheltered harbour makes it the principal seaport for the Isles and the capital of the West Highlands.
It has a mild, temperate climate, warmed by the Gulf Stream and washed (too often, some might say) by the soft rain that often falls hereabouts. This misty, maritime character, with a background of heather and peat, is perfectly echoed in the malt whisky produced at Oban.
Oban is made using only the finest barley, malted to the distillerys own particular specification. The tiny lantern-shaped copper pot stills are among the smallest in Scotland; their rich, fruity malt is then slowly condensed in wooden worm tubs that sit outside among the rooftops, before being aged in oak casks for at least 14 years.
1995 Distillers Edition: Each Distillers Edition expression undergoes a second (or ‘double’) maturation in casks that have previously held a fortified wine.
The founders of Oban distillery were entrepreneurs who imported and exported goods for which they could sense a demand. They would have approved of the Spanish influence brought to bear in this Montilla Fino cask wood finish.
A seriously complex whisky of the highest order – a glorious zesty nose and plenty of sweet fruit complemented by salt and chewy, roasty caramel malt.
DISTILLED: 1995.
BOTTLED: 2010.
APPEARANCE: Amber, rose-hued.
NOSE: Outstanding. Fruity and pungent; sea salt with crushed grapes, orange zest and hints of smoke. Massively complex.
BODY: Full, rich.
PALATE: Most explosive Oban ever. Soft malt then wave upon wave of delicate yet rich fruit notes on a tide of brine.
FINISH: Sweetened Jamaican coffee and oak, with an attractive malt-biscuit effect as it dies down.

Old Pulteney - 12 Year Old Single Malt

Old Pulteney – 12 Year Old Single Malt
Country: Scotland   Region: Highlands
Age: 12 Year Old   Strength: 40%
Summary: Matured wholly in air-dried, hand-selected ex-bourbon casks, the unashamedly excellent Old Pulteney 12-years-old is the definitive expression in the Old Pulteney family. Traditionally crafted using techniques that other distillers have long abandoned, this winner of numerous gold medals at the most prestigious international competitions is a high water-mark of quality spirits.
Nose: Medium to high intensity, dry with a hint of sea air.
Colour: Deep amber with a slight pink hue.
Taste: Dry, medium bodied and smooth with a clean finish: faintly salty with a slight sherry note.

Nose: Sweet with traces of apples and pears: slightly woody with a hint of butterscotch.

Laphroaig - Cairdeas Origin 2012 Bottling

Laphroaig – Cairdeas Origin 2012 Bottling
Country: Scotland   Region: Islay
Age:    Strength: 51.2%
Summary: First released at the Feis Ile 2012, Laphroaig Cairdeas Origin was bottled to celebrate 18 years of the Friends of Laphroaig program. Combining the original liquid used to first create Cairdeas along with newer Laphroaig spirit that has been fully matured in quarter casks.
Although there is no age statement on the bottle, weve been told by those-in-the-know that Laphroaig Cairdeas is new spirit that was placed into small quarter casks, enjoying a very intense maturation for seven years, that was then blended (50:50) with another special whisky the chaps at Laphroaig had been quietly maturing for between 13 and 21 years old. Both whiskies were fine expressions of Laphroaig in their own right, but when blended together something exceptional emerged as befits this 18th anniversary of the FOL club.
Colour: Golden Barley.
Nose: Distinctly Laphroaig – iodine, peat, smoke etc. but with quite a bit of citrus (Orange & Apples) and a hint of creamy fudge.
Taste: A good mixture of Laphroaig medicinal, peat, slight ginger, apples and hints of vanilla sweetness.
Finish: Quite long with peat, iodine and chocolatey coffee.

Macallan - Diamond Jubilee Bottling

Macallan – Diamond Jubilee Bottling
Country: Scotland   Region: Speyside
Age:    Strength: 52%
Summary: This specially designed bottle bears a unique image of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II created by the sculptor Arnold Machin. With only 2012 bottles available, and like their previous commemorative royal bottling’s, this edition is expected to be highly sought after by collectors from the worlds of whisky and art.
Nose: Vanilla is the first to show, sweet to a point, yet shows maturity. Citrus fruits hang on to the coattails, (orange, apple, hints of lemon), almost appear when they are required. The cask influences then appear, resinous, never overbearing, changing to show polished oak, aged, reminiscent of a once exquisite dining room.
Palate: Rich dried fruits open up to show their hand. Raisin drives the character in a non-nonsense manner. It is evident it is not alone, figs and dates, are the lesser players of the group. As they converse, treacle toffee takes a bow followed by the courtiers, ginger and clove. Like a finale the grand lady enters, Oak – refined, polished, elegant, overlooking all.
Finish: Long, meanders, in no hurry to leave.

Country: Scotland   Region: Speyside
Age:    Strength: 58.1% & 55.7%
Summary: This limited edition commemorative bottling comprises a beautifully designed box featuring two 350ml bottles of single malt whisky, the first conveying the Queen as she was in 1953, aged just 26, and the second honouring the treasured monarch she has become today. The two bottles each feature a different image of The Queen, one taken in 1953 by Cecil Beaton the other featuring an image taken in 2004 by Julian Calder, one of the world’s most renowned portrait photographers.
The first whisky, matured in American oak sherry seasoned casks, is a vibrant gold spirit offering a lemon and orange citrus nose. Ginger and summer berries flit in the background showing the exuberance of youth while hinting at a founding level of maturity.
Matured in Spanish sherry seasoned oak casks, the second whisky is a splendid mahogany spirit and presents a richly mature, elegant and refined nose. Nutmeg, ginger, rich fruits and resin soften to give a full mouth feel. There is great maturity on the palate, yet no sign of age.
