Glenallachie-glenlivet 12 Year Old / Bot.1980s Speyside Whisky

Glenallachie-glenlivet 12 Year Old / Bot.1980s Speyside Whisky

75cl / 43% / Distillery Bottling – A very rare distillery bottling of Glenallachie-Glenlivet whisky. This is one of the few single malt whiskies bottled by the distillery, as most of the whisky distilled ends up going into blended whisky. This single malt has been aged for 12 years and was bottled sometime in the 1980s.

Master Of Malt Introduces The 60 Year Old Speyside!

March 7, 2014 by Gary Leave a Comment

Master Of Malt's 60 Year Old Speyside!

Master Of Malt’s 60 Year Old Speyside!

Today, Master Of Malt are pleased to add a 60 year old Single Malt Whisky to their award-winning Secret Bottlings series!

Distilled and matured at an undisclosed, but famous, Speyside distillery, Master Of Malt are able to offer this new 60 year old single malt at an amazing £999.95 a bottle!

The fact that they have been able to get hold of a malt of such an age is amazing in itself, the marketplace is not exactly awash with 60 year old malts.

But if you also add the fact that whiskies even half this age go for this kind of money then £999.95 represents an un-beatable price for 70cl. of drinkable history.

The Secret Bottlings range offer an opportunity to purchase a truly great malt and basically you are paying for just that – a great malt – NOT the branding and advertising that can hike up the price to an astronomical level.

These bottlings, apart from being great value for money, have already been recognised by the Drinks fraternity:-

Their 30 Year Old won Gold Outstanding at the International Wine & Spirits Competition in 2013.

The 40 Year Old achieved Gold and Best in Class at the International Spirits Challenge, also in 2013.

Their previous edition of the current 50 Year Old achieved an extraordinary score of 96.5 in Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible 2014.

Tasting Notes – Master Of Malt 60 Year Old Speyside (1st Edition)

Master Of Malt 60 Year Old Speyside (1st Edition)
Nose: Woody, caramel, raisins and a hint of soft fruits.

Palate: I was expecting wood but, surprisingly, that’s very muted. Light caramel, spice, sweet plump raisins garnished with nutmeg.

Finish: Quite tanin, long finish, long pleasantly balanced spice combined with tobacco.

Overall: A well defined quality dram, certainly something a bit special. An occasion dram waiting for the right occasion. But then, that occasion could be very swiftly found!

Many thanks to Master Of Malt for the sample.

Macallan - Old Malt Cask 25 Year Old/15th Anniversary Edition

Macallan – Old Malt Cask 25 Year Old/15th Anniversary Edition
Country: Scotland   Region: Speyside
Age: 25 Year Old   Strength: 51.4%
Summary: To conclude a very rewarding year for me, professionally and personally, Hunter Laing & Co Ltd. is releasing two special new lines. The first of these is an Anniversary series of six casks, bottled to celebrate fifteen years of our flagship Old Malt Cask brand. Together with my sons Scott and Andrew, as well as our Master Blender Tom Aitken, I have selected casks from our maturing stocks which each do justice to the labels fifteen year milestone. These cask-strength Anniversary bottlings are presented in green glass with wooden gift boxes, and are finished in the original-style labels to pay homage to the earliest Old Malt Cask releases. Choosing these casks allowed me to reflect with pride on my last fifteen years as a single cask bottler and, in reviewing our stocks, to look forward with relish to the next fifteen years of the Old Malt Cask.

Mosstowie - 33 Year Old Gordon Macphail Rare Edition

Mosstowie – 33 Year Old Gordon Macphail Rare Edition
Country: Scotland   Region: Speyside
Age: 33 Year Old   Strength: 46%
Summary: For over 25 years Miltonduff Distillery produced 2 different Single Malt Whiskies. In 1955 due to the increased demand within Hiram Walker for different styles of whisky, a chemical engineer, Alistair Cunningham designed the Lomond Still. This type of still had a wide neck which housed three rectifying plates. These plates were used to vary the amount of reflux that took place within the still thus altering the spirit produced. The plates could either be filled with cool liquid or left dry. They could be rotated – the horizontal position would maximise reflux while the vertical position would reduce reflux. Due to increased demand for Ballantines Blend in the 1980s, the Mosstowie stills were altered to produce Miltonduff – the key component of Ballantines.
AROMA WITHOUT WATER: Freshly washed wool and hessian. With hints of polished oak, beeswax and orange peel.
TASTE WITHOUT WATER: A sweet liquorice and aniseed flavour. Pepper and ash notes linger.
AROMA WITH WATER: Creamy hot chocolate aromas with spiced orange and cardamom notes.
TASTE WITH WATER: Cinnamon and Clove influences with hints of Cedar wood.

Balvenie 17 Year Old / Islay Cask Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Balvenie 17 Year Old / Islay Cask Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Balvenie 17 Year Old / Islay Cask Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky

70cl / 43% / Distillery Bottling – This Balvenie was matured in barrels that had previously held whisky from Islay, imparting a peatiness to the otherwise unpeated Speyside malt. A slightly mad mix, this has developed a cult following and is consequently increasingly hard to find.

Country: Scotland   Region: Speyside
Age: 24 Year Old   Strength: 49%
Summary: Cask Type: Matured exclusively in Oloroso sherry butts.
