Karuizawa 30 Year Old Sherry Cask #7924 Country: Scotland Region: Age: 30 Year Old Strength: Summary: 1981 vintage matured in a single sherry butt cask #7924. 30 year old Japanese single malt whisky from the Karuizawa Distillery. Bottled October 2011 at natural strength. Karuizawa (Japan) Karuizawa Distillery was established in 1956 near Miyota Town north west of Tokyo, Japan but closed in 2001 although the buildings and equipment remain. Karuizawa Distillery sits at an altitude of 850m on the foothills of the active volcano Mount Asama and used water which had drained through Asama’s lava soils. The equipment in Karuizawa Distillery included wooden washbacks and four small stills, although only three were used for malt whisky production, and sherry casks from Spain. Tomatin 21 Year Old Berry Bros & Rudd Country: Scotland Region: Speyside Age: 21 Year Old Strength: Summary: Refill hogshead #51. Tomatin 1991 vintage 21 year old Highland single malt Scotch. Bottled 2012 at full strength by Berry Bros & Rudd. Limited to 251 bottles. Tomatin Tomatin malt whisky distillery was established in 1897 and operated with two stills until 1956 after which there were frequent and numerous additions culminating in 23 stills in 1986 making Tomatin the largest distillery in Scotland at that time. However, eleven were subsequently closed and it is currently operating with twelve. Tomatin Distillery is a Scottish Highland distillery situated close to the Cairngorms National Park and sitting at an altitude of 315m it is the third highest distillery in Scotland. Great importance is placed on the quality of its casks and Tomatin Distillery is one of very few Scottish distilleries to continue to operate a cooperage and to employ a cooper on site. Caol Ila Caol Ila Distillery on the Isle of Islay is famous for the stunning view from the still house windows looking out across the Sound of Islay and for the objects which have passed by including naval battleships, smugglers in dinghies, submarines and whales. Caol Ila Distillery was established in 1846 by Hector Henderson on a sheltered but rocky stretch of coast on north east Islay. Now the largest malt whisky distillery on Islay and visitors are welcomed at the distillery visitor centre where distillery tours are available. Caol Ila Distillery is a participant in Feis Ile, the annual Islay Festival of Malt and Music. Islay malt with a deep smokiness lies behind the yellow fruit, green olives and leather aromas. Mouth feel is textured, slowly releasing the smoky flavours which seep through to the fruitiness. This is an intense and balanced Caol Ila Scotch malt with a charming and lingering peaty finish. |

Glenglassaugh The First Cask Country: Scotland Region: Speyside Age: Strength: Summary: Historic 3 year old 2008 vintage from the Highland Glenglassaugh Distillery. Bottled exactly three years after the refurbished distillery re-opened in December 2008. Single sherry butt cask #1. 650 bottles. Glenglassaugh Glenglassaugh Distillery is a Highland malt whisky distillery situated at Sandend Bay near Portsoy on the Banffshire coast with views north over the Moray Firth and the North Sea and is one of just a very few truly coastal Highland malt whisky distilleries. Glenglassaugh Distillery was established by James Moir and opened in 1875 on a site between the remains of Glassaugh windmill constructed in 1762 and the Craig Corn Mills. In an ideal location with barley and soft Speyside water to hand and sea breezes to pervade the distillery’s warehouses. When Glassaugh Station opened on the Moray Coastal Railway in 1884 Glenglassaugh Distillery gained speedy access the whisky blenders down south. This distillery was substantially re-built in 1959 and re-opened in 1960 only to closed in 1986. Glenglassaugh Distillery was purchased by the Scaent Group and back in production in December 2008.
