Edencroft	Glenlossie – 9 Year Old Managers Choice Country: Scotland Region: Speyside Age: 9 Year Old Strength: 59.10% Summary: Nose: a delicate trace of lime to the barley: what an understated, fragile, uber sexy nose…; Taste: unusual in that the first wave on delivery appears to be a thin, oily note. This is promptly followed by the young barley water, threatening a sharpness but dampened by the lightest scattering of icing sugar; mouth watering, and youthful; Finish: even with the custard powder arrival, never a hint of anything that is remotely non kindergarten; Balance: one of the most impressive examples of Speyside malt, apparently not even out of nappies but treating you to a spectacular display of barley in all its beauty. Edencroft	Glenrothes – 21 Year Old – Old & Rare Edition Country: Scotland Region: Speyside Age: 21 Year Old Strength: 56.10% Summary: Douglas Laing & Co. proudly offer this fine example of the Distillers’ Art as a special selection from their oldest stocks of whisky. No water is added to reduce its strength, as the Angel’s share has already taken care of that. No caramel, colouring is added, so that you can see it’s pure and natural colour. They have chosen to bottle this malt without chill-filtration in the old fashioned and traditional style. By so doing, they leave in the entire Distillers’ preferred qualities apparent on the nose, palate and finish – self evident when you remove the cork. As you can see on the label, this is one bottle of a very restricted offering, which once consumed, cannot ever be repeated. Nose: full of dark fruits and lively spices on the nose initially – it mellows as it warms to tobacco smells and a damp whisky warehouse character. Palate: on the palate the sherry cask influences it early with more (now macerated) fruit – then sweet barley, more tobacco, vanilla and mocha flavours alternatively appear. Edencroft	Old Pulteney – 1990 Vintage Country: Scotland Region: Highlands Age: 23 Year Old Strength: 46% Summary: Old Pulteney 1990 has been matured in hand selected American oak ex-Bourbon barrels and Spanish oak ex-Sherry butts. The casks previously held heavily peated malt which gives this Vintage a slight smoky character. Appearance: Polished amber. Aroma: Subtle, warm wood smoke envelopes the sweetness of peardrops & crunchy green apples. Fragrant floral notes, fresh lemon zest & honey are followed by a spicy & fruity touch of ex-sherry casks. Taste: Full bodied & rich. The initial sweet honey note is quickly followed by a wave of thick peat smoke, joined a moment later by a spicy vanilla, toffee & rum smoked raisins. OLD PULTENEY DISTILLERY Founded in 1826 by James Henderson at the height of Wicks celebrated herring boom, the Pulteney Distillery is one of the most northerly on the British mainland. At a time when road links to the town were yet to be established, the distillery was dependent on the sea for its supply of barley and for the shipping out of its malt whisky. Wick became known for the barrels of silver (herring) and gold (whisky) which left the port in vast numbers. The distillery itself has an absorbing history, with its unique stills defying convention to this day. The wash still, in particular, is a source of fascination to visitors due to the absence of a swan neck. Legend has it that when the still was delivered it was too tall for the still house and the manager simply decided to cut the top off! The Old Pulteney bottle now incorporates a bulbous neck to reflect the shape of the stills. Over time, the distillery has passed through the hands of various owners, and even closed during times of trouble for the industry in 1930. Luckily, the repeal of an often forgotten period of prohibition in 1947 saw the welcome resumption of whisky production, with the distillery changing ownership a number of times, before its purchase by Inver House Distillers in 1995. Throughout this history what has endured is the quality of the whisky. Edencroft	Compass Box – The General Country: Scotland Region: Blended Age: Strength: 53.4% Summary: It’s been a good year for sourcing ridiculously rare parcels of extraordinary whisky. Two different companies approached us this year with similar stories: they each had several casks of Blended Scotch that had been blended at quite young ages, then not required and put back into cask and left to age. One parcel was 33 years-old and the other 40 years-old. We know little of the component whiskies, only that, being Blended Scotch Whisky, they were blends of both single malt and single grain whiskies. We could tell by tasting that some were aged in former American whisky casks and some in sherry casks. But the provenance wasn’t really important, because each parcel had matured into something extraordinary in flavour, and to us, as blenders, they each represented distinct and complementary flavour profiles. And this is where things got interesting for us. While each parcel was compelling in its own right, we had the feeling that by combining them in the right proportions, we could make something even more interesting. So we experimented for many weeks, blending the two together at different proportions before landing on the recipe in this bottle. The result is a whisky with the “antique” character lovers of old whiskies seek out. John Glaser – Whiskymaker. Availability: Limited Release of 1,678 bottles. Flavour Descriptors: It has extraordinary depth, with aromas and flavours reminiscent of spices, dried fruits and old sherry wine character. Here, we pay tribute to its pedigree, to the land from which it came and the raw materials that gave it life: Octomore Scottish Barley. We believe in challenging convention. Character: Magnificently muscular. Most heavily peated malts are so dry and phenolic there is little else to spark the senses, not so this young warrior who arouses pride and passion, transporting you to that most famous rock in the Atlantic ocean – Islay – the beating heart of the Hebrides. Edencroft has 6 New additions to it’s range this week with whiskies from the Highlands, Lowland and Speyside regions.

The brands include Balblair, Knockando & Old Pulteney.

The ages of the new whiskies range from 10 to 45 Year Old malts.

Edencroft	Caledonian Grain Whisky – Clan Denny 45 Year Old Edition Country: Scotland Region: Lowland Age: 45 Years Strength: 47.30% Summary: Cask No: HH7501. Bottles from Cask: Distilled: 1965. Bottled: Nose: a curious though not unpleasant mix of bourbon whisky warehouse and my dad’s old-train imbued clothes in the early 60’s after he got in from work …; Taste: a Kentuckian character from the moment it touches the lips; the sugars are delicate and diverse, the liquorice building in boldness. By the midway point the sugars have moved into fully-fledged honey’s; light and brain-exploding complex; Finish: a wee bitter note from tired oak. But that is outflanked by those oils carrying a gorgeous fruit and nut character and vanilla to die for; Balance: anyone who managed to get their hands on the very oldest maturing stocks of Barton bourbon from twenty years ago (and there were very few of us who managed it) would recognise it immediately. Matured in 2nd fill American oak ex-bourbon casks and 1st fill Spanish oak ex-sherry butts. The aroma is spicy yet sweet & is punctuated with notes of raisins, toffee & honey. Hints of vanilla, chocolate & citrus fruits are also present. On the palate it’s full bodied; sweet & spicy in character with hints of honey, raisins & zesty fruits. Edencroft	Balblair – 2003 Vintage/1st Release Country: Scotland Region: Highlands Age: 10 Year Old Strength: 46% Summary: Vintage Highland 2003 Single Malt Whisky, 1st Release. 2nd fill American oak, ex-Bourbon barrels used in maturation impart toffee, butterscotch & vanilla notes. On the nose there are the signature Balblair aromas: floral & fragrant punctuated with citrus fruits, apricots & honey. On the palate it is full bodied, with notes of orange, lemon, honey & spice. The long lasting finish is sweet yet spicy: a superbly well balanced dram. On the palate it is full bodied, yet sweet and spicy in character, with hints of oranges, lemons, green apples, toffee and vanilla. There is a typical long finish as the floral and fruit notes develop and combine with the initial spice and sweetness from the American oak casks. Edencroft	Knockando – 12 Year Old Managers Choice/sherry Cask Country: Scotland Region: Speyside Age: 12 Year Old Strength: 58.50% Summary: Nose: I think my staff have poured me the wrong stuff: they’ve opened up some pot still Demerara, right …? Wrong. No definitely from the Knockando sample. Well, well, well …let’s just say it’s a fruity, sugary, rich start on the nose …; Taste: Actually, I don’t care if this is rum or whisky. When you get flavours this beautifully defined, a body this sublimely structure …it really doesn’t much matter. Oozes fruity, beautifully natural sweetened quality and complexity; Finish: A slight bitterness on the finish where, for the first time, there is a minor blemish, but the array of sugars still make for something memorable …and absolutely 100% nothing like I have tasted from any previous Knockando …; Balance: I have been in the Demerara region Guyana, crawled around a rum warehouse at a rum distillery and opened a cask of rum which has less rum characteristics than this rumbustuous chappie. Edencroft	Old Pulteney – 1990 Vintage Country: Scotland Region: Highlands Age: 23 Year Old Strength: 46% Summary: Old Pulteney 1990 has been matured in hand selected American oak ex-Bourbon barrels and Spanish oak ex-Sherry butts. The casks previously held heavily peated malt which gives this Vintage a slight smoky character. Appearance: Polished amber. Aroma: Subtle, warm wood smoke envelopes the sweetness of peardrops & crunchy green apples. Fragrant floral notes, fresh lemon zest & honey are followed by a spicy & fruity touch of ex-sherry casks. Taste: Full bodied & rich. The initial sweet honey note is quickly followed by a wave of thick peat smoke, joined a moment later by a spicy vanilla, toffee & rum smoked raisins.
