Age:    Strength:
Vintage: 2007   Bottler:
Summary: Springbank Private Bottling for Distillery Visitors 2007 miniature is a vatting of single malt Scotch matured in sherry, bourbon and rum casks. Hazelburn (Springbank)   Springbank Distillery is the oldest, independent and family owned malt whisky distillery in Scotland having been founded in 1828 in Campbeltown at the foot of the Mull of Kintyre on the west coast of Scotland. Springbank produces three different types of malt whisky including Hazelburn which is non-peated and triple distilled and was first produced in 1997 and first released at the age of 8 years in 2005. The barley is spread across traditional malting floors at Springbank where it germinates and is then dried by hot air on the perforated floor of the malt kiln. The name Hazelburn is in memory of  Hazelburn Distillery which was once one of the largest and now one of Campbeltown’s many lost distilleries and operated in the centre of the town from 1825 until 1925. No tatsing notes present.

Banff 36 Year Old Platinum Selection

Banff 36 Year Old Platinum Selection
Country: Scotland   Region: Speyside
Age: 36 Year Old   Strength:
Summary: Banff 36 Year Old Douglas Laing Old & Rare Platinum Selection. Single cask distilled 1975 and bottled 2012. Banff The Mill of Banff malt whisky distillery was established by Major James McKilligan at Mains of Colleonard Farm just south of Banff in 1824 and acquired by James Simpson a local merchant and ship owner in 1852.  Mill of Banff Distillery closed in 1863 when Simpson’s son built a new distillery on a site to the west of Banff at Inverboyndie and named it Banff Distillery. Relocation enabled the opportunity to expand and take advantage of a plentiful supply of soft Speyside water and the new branch line connecting Banff to the main Inverness to Aberdeen railway. Despite surviving the ups and downs of the whisky industry Banff Distillery closed in 1983and partially demolished in 1985 but most of the rest of Banff Distillery came down during a fire in 1991 and although shells of a few warehouses are still standing Banff is a lost Highland malt whisky distillery. Sweet barley is immediately evident on the nose – and it opens further with honey, fresh cut summer grass – running to subtle aged and toasted, smoking oak.  Palatewise there is a mouthcoating sugar tang of sweetness plus a Galliano liqueur style of spiciness with more late honey (Hot Toddy style) and coffee.  Beyond replication of those same flavours – on the finish there is a vanilla fudge quality with the soft spices carrying even more interest.

Doig was commissioned by Dailuaine Distillery to design a new roof for its malt kiln and the commission resulted in the very first Doig pagoda roof being installed at Dailuaine Distillery. The design proved successful, was rapidly adopted by other distilleries and nowadays it is the iconic symbol of Scotland’s traditional malt whisky distilleries. Unfortunately, Doig’s original roof was destroyed during a fire at Dailuaine malt whisky distillery in 1917.  Nose: Rather citric – distinctly vanilla’d – Malty + lightly honied.Palate: Soft and subtle/sugary and cedar-y/spiced yet subtle.Finish: More honey apparent + warming spices and trailing smoke.

Longrow (springbank) 18 Year Old

Longrow (springbank) 18 Year Old
Country: Scotland   Region: Campbeltown
Age: 18 Year Old   Strength:
Summary: Longrow 18 year old 2012 release is a peated Campbeltown single malt Scotch whisky matured in sherry casks. Stocks are very limited for this highly anticipated release. Longrow (Springbank) Springbank Distillery is the oldest, independent and family owned malt whisky distillery in Scotland having been founded in 1828 in Campbeltown at the foot of the Mull of Kintyre on the west coast of Scotland. Springbank produces three different types of malt whisky one of which is Longrow which was first produced in 1973 and is highly peated and double distilled. The barley is spread  across Springbank’s own traditional malting floors where it germinates and is then dried on the perforated floor of the kiln by hot  peat smoke for 48 hours. The name is in memory of  Longrow Distillery which sat adjacent to Springbank Distillery and is now one of Campbeltown’s  many lost distilleries. Longrow Distillery operated from 1824 until 1896. Nose: This whisky has an incredibly sweet nose with some savoury notes peeking through. Marshmallows in abundance – the vanilla variety, with icing sugar and foam bananas adding to the sweetness. Upon further nosing the fruit makes an appearance, brambles, mandarines and over ripe damson fruits. Some savoury notes pushing through such as linseed oil – do we smell cricket bats? Palate: This dram coats your palate in a waxy fashion with its continuing sweet flavours as described on the nose. But there is also the familiar, well balanced trace of smoke which makes this a brilliantly complex wee dram that will make you feel right at home no matter where you are. Finish: The creaminess of this whisky means it doesn't go away – you feel the warmth of this Longrow all the way down to your boots, creamy, sweet with a gentle smoke finish.

Glengyle Kilkerran Work In Progress 4

Glengyle Kilkerran Work In Progress 4
Country: Scotland   Region: Campbeltown
Age:    Strength:
Summary: Kilkerran Work in Progress 4 is a Campbeltown single malt Scotch whisky distilled at the Glengyle Distillery. This 2012 release is the 4th bottling of the series from the new distillery and limited to 9,000 bottles. Glengyle William Mitchell established Glengyle Distillery in 1872 in Campbeltown at the foot of the Kintyre Peninsular. Closed in 1925, malt whisky stock sold and all the equipment removed. The buildings were purchased by Hedley Wright in 2000 who re-furbished and re-opened Glengyle Distillery in 2004. Now equipped with two small stills and operating for one or two months per year to produce Glengyle single malt whisky which is called Kilkeran. Nose: Home made marmalade. Incredibly rich with copious amounts of oranges, rhubarb and ripe pear amongst the sweetness of brown sugar and honey. Palate: The tangy and zesty nose continues on to the palate and is enriched with flavours of toffee, fudge and cream buns stuffed with vanilla custard and coated with icing sugar. Finger licking good. Finish: Sweet and spicy, with hints of aniseed and liquorice.

Hazelburn (springbank) Cv

Hazelburn (springbank) Cv
Country: Scotland   Region: Campbeltown
Age:    Strength:
Summary: Hazelburn CV is a single malt Scotch whisky from the Springbank distillery in Campbeltown. Matured in ex-bourbon and sherry casks aged 6-10 years. Nose: Passion Fruit, malt, orange peel. As the nose opens up the sweetness and malt notes really come to the front. Sweet vanilla also comes through as the whisky breathes. Palate: The texture and body of this whisky is quite surprising. Subtly spicy notes hint at some sherry casks in the mix, however the velvet vanilla flavours are an indication that most of the Hazelburn CV has been matured in fresh bourbon casks. Finish: Lingering and mellow with sweet salty

Country: Scotland   Region: Speyside
Age: 20 Year Old   Strength:
Summary: Caperdonich 20 Year Old single malt Scotch whisky matured in a small 70-litre sherry Octave cask. Distilled 1992 and bottled by Duncan Taylor in 2012. Caperdonich Caperdonich Distillery was founded in 1897 and its two stills were fired up a year later. Caperdonich Distillery was situated beside the North of Scotland Railway in the north west corner of Rothes in Scotland’s Speyside whisky region and was established at a time when whisky sales were on the up and up. But Caperdonich Distillery opened just as whisky sales crashed and subsequent wars and prohibition inhibited its recovery. And having closed in 1902 it remained mothballed until 1965 when the stills were fired up once again. It closed once more in 2002, and now that we have finally come to appreciate the complexity and depth of Caperdonich malt whisky …… demolished in 2011. Caperdonich whisky was intended primarily for blended scotch but a small volume has been released by independent bottles as Caperdonich single malt whisky. A lost Scottish Speyside malt whisky distillery. Before: lemongrass, citrus, vanilla, carrot cake. After: bacon, soft smoke, cherries, ginger snaps.
