Caol Ila 1997 Distillers Edition

Caol Ila 1997 Distillers Edition
Country: Scotland   Region: Islay
Age:    Strength:
Vintage: 1997   Bottler:
Summary: 1997 vintage of the stylish and complex double-matured expression of Caol Ila; the Moscatel cask wood not over-evident; richly flavoured yet also drying and finely balanced. Caol Ila Caol Ila Distillery on the Isle of Islay is famous for the stunning view from the still house windows looking out across the Sound of Islay and for the objects which have passed by including naval battleships, smugglers in dinghies, submarines and whales. Caol Ila Distillery was established in 1846 by Hector Henderson on a sheltered but rocky stretch of coast on north east Islay. Now the largest malt whisky distillery on Islay and visitors are welcomed at the distillery visitor centre where distillery tours are available. Caol Ila Distillery is a participant in Feis Ile, the annual Islay Festival of Malt and Music. Wonderfully concentrated pure, clean Caol Ila – peaty and medicinal, with rich fruit, spicy and fragrant. Sweetness and maltiness strike first, then are quickly overwhelmed by peat smoke and intense, clean, crisp flavours. Caol Ila’s signature smoky bonfires are here, and build to quite a size.

Cragganmore 1997 Distillers Edition
Country: Scotland   Region: Speyside
Age:    Strength:
Vintage: 1997   Bottler:
Summary: 1997 vintage of the complex Cragganmore single malt prescribed an out-of-the-ordinary choice for a secondary cask finish. Double matured in Port-wine casks successfully provides the perfectly harmonious partner. Cragganmore Cragganmore Distillery was established by John Smith in 1869 on a site close to Ballindalloch Station in the heart of Scotland’s Speyside whisky region. Cragganmore Distillery is a malt whisky distillery equipped with four very short stills and is one of the few Scottish malt whisky distilleries which continue to cool their new spirit in traditional worm tubs. Visitors are welcomed at the Cragganmore Distillery visitor centre where distillery tours are available. Cragganmore is a participant in the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival. The mouth is swamped with fruity flavours of cherries and oranges leading to rich tastes of Port-wine and malt, with lingering smoke. Long finish is breathtaking, with a toffee-sweet start and a dry slightly smoky finish. Intriguingly multi-layered malt.

Glenfiddich 1974 Rare Collection 36 Year Old

Glenfiddich 1974 Rare Collection 36 Year Old
Country: Scotland   Region: Speyside
Age: 36 Year Old   Strength:
Vintage: 1974   Bottler:
Summary: Specially selected by Glenfiddich Brand Ambassadors from around the world in 2011, this is the first ever vatted vintage of Glenfiddich. Just 1,000 bottles of this exception expression have been released. Glenfiddich William Grant established Glenfiddich Distillery in 1886, built it with the help of his family and Glenfiddich has spent its entire working life prospering in the ownership of subsequent generations of the Grant family. Glenfiddich Distillery is situated in the heart of Scotland’s Speyside whisky region and being equipped with twenty-eight stills the distillery has more operational stills than most other malt whisky distillery in the world. Glenfiddich Distillery has a superb visitor centre offering distillery tours and excellent food is served in the restaurant. The Glenfiddich single malt whisky range includes the Snow Phoenix. Nose: 1974 Glenfiddich Vintage Reserve is rich and oaky with vibrant vanilla sweetness and an intriguing hint of polished leather and liquorice. With the addition of a little water there is a burst of fresh fruit and spice – orange marmalade, ripe berries, cinnamon, nutmeg and caramelised pear. Palate: Initially very sweet with a vanilla toffee character; the oak tannin develops with time giving a pleasing, oily texture and a slightly drier flavour. With water, it becomes velvety soft and mellow with beautiful layers of fruit, spice, oak and the merest hint of smoke. Finish: Very long lasting with lingering oak.

Benromach Latitude 53 Single Cask #706

Benromach Latitude 53 Single Cask #706
Country: Scotland   Region: Speyside
Age:    Strength:
Summary: Single refill sherry hogshead #706. 2nd release bottled to commemorate Benromach's support of the Clipper 07-08 round the world yacht race. Benromach Benromach Distillery was designed by Charles C. Diog and constructed at Forres in 1898 and was due to commence production in 1899. But demand for scotch collapsed when the principle purchaser of Benromach’s malt whisky Pattison‘s of Leith went bankrupt and Benromach Distillery sat silent as the next decade rolled by. Intermittent production followed until major investment and refurbishment in the 1960s and 1970s turned Benromach into a thoroughly modern Speyside malt whisky distillery, only to close again in 1983. Ten years later it was purchased by the independent bottler Gordon and MacPhail who fired up its single pair of stills in 1998 and nurtured Benromach ever since. Benromach Distillery welcomes visitors into the Benromach Distillery visitor centre, offers distillery tours and is a participant in the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival. Glenglassaugh Revival
Country: Scotland   Region: Speyside
Age:    Strength:
Summary: Revival is the first core bottling from Glenglassaugh since the refurbished distillery re-opened in December 2008 and limited to around 10,000 bottles. We think this is the best example of a young Scotch on the market today. Complex, fruity, spicy and sweet with alcohols that have mellowed very well in just three years. Pre-order shipping early April 2012. Glenglassaugh Glenglassaugh Distillery is a Highland malt whisky distillery situated at Sandend Bay near Portsoy on the Banffshire coast with views north over the Moray Firth and the North Sea and is one of just a very few truly coastal Highland malt whisky distilleries. Glenglassaugh Distillery was established by James Moir and opened in 1875 on a site between the remains of Glassaugh windmill constructed in 1762 and the Craig Corn Mills. In an ideal location with barley and soft Speyside water to hand and sea breezes to pervade the distillery’s warehouses. When Glassaugh Station opened on the Moray Coastal Railway in 1884 Glenglassaugh Distillery gained speedy access the whisky blenders down south. This distillery was substantially re-built in 1959 and re-opened in 1960 only to closed in 1986. Glenglassaugh Distillery was purchased by the Scaent Group and back in production in December 2008. Visitors are welcomed at Glenglassaugh Distillery and tours are available by appointment. Nose: Sweet caramel and toffee with notes of nutty sherry, milk chocolate and honey. Ripe plums, red berries and oranges. Caramelised sugar and earthy, charred oak. Palate: Sweet, rounded and creamy. Oranges, plums, cherry and walnuts, chocolate, honey-mead, sherry and soft, spiced oak. Finish: Medium with warming mulled-wine spices, sherry and caramel.

Age: 39 Year Old   Strength:
Summary: Matured in a 1st fill sherry butt, this is a fresh, fruity and spicy single malt. Distilled March 1972 and bottled August 2011. Previous bottlings of this vintage from Gordon & MacPhail have been sublime. Caperdonich Caperdonich Distillery was founded in 1897 and its two stills were fired up a year later. Caperdonich Distillery was situated beside the North of Scotland Railway in the north west corner of Rothes in Scotland’s Speyside whisky region and was established at a time when whisky sales were on the up and up. But Caperdonich Distillery opened just as whisky sales crashed and subsequent wars and prohibition inhibited its recovery. And having closed in 1902 it remained mothballed until 1965 when the stills were fired up once again. It closed once more in 2002, and now that we have finally come to appreciate the complexity and depth of Caperdonich malt whisky …… demolished in 2011. Caperdonich whisky was intended primarily for blended scotch but a small volume has been released by independent bottles as Caperdonich single malt whisky. A lost Scottish Speyside malt whisky distillery. On the nose: heavily sherried notes, almond influences – marzipan and Christams cake influences – rich fruits. Palate: mouth drying, prominent sweetness, fruity influences with a delicate dark chocolate edge.
